Nice to know we weren't the the only ones finding it difficult without extra weight. We've got the 6m version of yours. What I was finding is when the wings were folded down with full pressure in the rams, the wings would go all the way in but would lift the middle section out. When I did find the sweet spot for where the rams needed to be for all the knives to go in evenly they would only go in about 2 inches. So what I did in the winter was fill the wings with concrete coming up 5 inches above the sides, put the rest of old weights (that used to be on the wings) in the middle section. Knives will go all the way in now with the spool valve in float.

Hi fantastic video do they work what are the results

Farmer2492 yes they work well, people tend to expect to much after just one pass when really it will improve grass growth by around 20%
I use mine a couple of times a year because we don’t plough much and the sheep tend to smear the ground surface and this machine does a good job of counteracting that.

Kevin Lynch it's one of those machines people tend to ignore because it looks to simple and as you say it works. If I have time I try to do it several times a year but last year I missed all together. I have a vid ready of me doing it this year but havnt uploaded cos been having a break off you tube for a few weeks. Thanks for commenting 👍

Tom Reel I did the same originally and just couldn't get the machine correct, if I was you I'd buy a ready made one. This one was £3500 new but you can buy them pretty cheaply second hand. It's got to be a very strong machine with all the weight it takes on board and the spikes are specially hardened for the job.
If you make one it would be great if you let me know how it goes cos I love people doing things like that 👍

Tom Reel I tried two ways, the first was using beater bars off and old ground driven muck spreader but this didn't go deep enough, the next design was a bit Heath Robinson but it did work. I was on the timber at the time and brought home a large diameter log, cut it to the width I wanted, then made some wooden bearings ( same as on flat rollers ) and then just got some very thick rebar cut them to length and hammered them into the log instead of blades. It worked quite well, but then I found this at a local dealer and bought it and used it instead.
