Evaluate Or Pay The Price

  • Recruiting has changed. Programs now have to choose between evaluating and developing lower-ranked players vs. paying for the better-ranked players and developing them. I explain how Josh Henson will prove his way is still the right way.
In the show's 2nd segment, I talk about which rivalries are better; the B1G Conference or the SEC.
This week's Friday Rant has to do with odd decisions that make no sense.

I love listening to an entire podcast for USC is dedicated to Oregon and how life isn’t fair. There is a reason Riley didn’t want Oregon to go the Big Ten. You’re seeing it played out now haha

This Friday's rant was a little light on the rant side, Marc. Sounded more frustrated than rant. So, USC coaches are the only coaches who coach and put kids in the league? Who's Moores WR coach at Oregon (i.e. what has he done over the past 5 years)? What relationships were in place, and yes what money was paid. I guess these 3 things only work in your favor and don't get talked about if you have a buckeye, bulldog, or M on your helmet. You've said next to nothing about OSU or GA recruiting class tactics etc.... how many kids did OSU put into the draft last year? How about GA? Yea, you are correct. The BIG conference isn't too happy about their new competition. As always, I enjoy listening to your perspective, whether I agree or not. Hope you had a safe and enjoyable 4th.

Rant sounds more like envy. Oregon is doing everything what we should be doing, getting the best players by the bag and getting the Cali kids. They’ve basically become the USC of old, running the West and beating down its rivals. They’ve owned us both on and off the field the last 15 years, our current staff should learn from them and I have no qualms giving them their props 👏🏾The truth is the truth, the spin about developing for the NFL is just that spin, it’s the results in college that matter

💯💯💯 SC used to thrive in the old era of college football and they've failed to adapt to the new era and have become irrelevant. Marc knows this and he's obviously frustrated.

Love the program. You are one of the few that speaks out.
Pay for performance not potential LR . Do not be afraid to walk away from a kid.
My take Marc is that these coaches are still learning , making mistakes in the current environment .
I may be in the minority but my take is it's not the responsibility of SC or coaches to put kids in the NFL. That's the kids responsibility.
Now, some kids , some families need money. Don't walk away from those just have a contract that says what has to be done. Many of these are really great families . USC needs these good families.

I don’t see cardinal and gold for USC colors. To my eyes, it’s a touch of burgundy red and yellow. But I thought the Chicago Bears were black and white for a long time due to my partial color blindness. Turns out the Bears were a deep, deep, blue.

I would like to see Nebraska regain its glory, Marc, not because I like the Huskers (I don't; Boomer), but because they might make a good rival for SC, which would then beat N like a drum. Without OU and Colorado, N has no real rivalries in the B1G. SC v. NU might make a great national TV game.

    • @Sportsgeek1991

Marc man. As an Oregon fan I agree with you. Oregon isn’t known for the receivers. Historically they haven’t put any great receivers in the nfl. These receivers are considering Oregon because of Junior Adam. He has put a few really good receivers in the nfl. 2 of which are really good receivers currently. He contributed to Rome Odunze and Jalen McMillan development. He spent three years with those guys(most of their college career). Just put Troy Franklin in the league. Tez Johnson and Evan Stewart are projected to go 2nd round or better. You can add Holden but he most likely won’t be highly touted like them. Oregon might put 3 receivers in the draft this year. Oregons starting to change that wide receiver narrative. But yes I agree, Oregon historically has sucked at developing wide receivers.

    • @DJ-qv6hk
      @DJ-qv6hk 12 днів тому

Agreed, see my point above. Junior isn't chopped liver. He's done his part and has quietly become a hell of a consistent recruiter and developer. Loudly at Oregon but quietly to the rest of cfb.

  • @davidkeeling4419

I believe completely in nick Saban's answer to NIL. If it was up to me, I wouldn't pay it. We are giving athletes an education that 90% of them will need later in life if they want meaningful careers. The others will be trained and developed to get drafted and play Pro-football making millions if they are good enough. Ity makes me sick to see 17-18 year olds being showcased around like a piece of meat by agents/parents and expect tyo be treated like royalty in a good number of cases. Lety them play for those who are willing to pay for their abilities. But we know some won't make the 1st team.

Also tell me why Oregon hasn’t been back to the Natty with loaded rosters since. And they got beat twice by UW loaded with 3 stars on paper Oregon should have won those games easily but choked. By the way nobody talks about the runner up in a championship game. So maybe your Oregon boys can get it done now. But need to prove it they ain’t winning nothing because you think so. LMAO! You are ignorant. The biggest wide receivers in the NFL associated with Oregon are Cooper Cupp and Puka Nacua. Junior Adams was their coach. Receivets are going to Oregon because of him and because with their offense, two receivers per year are guaranteed to have 1000 yard years. That is why Stewart picked Oregon. He saw Franklins and Tez numbers last year. Both were in the top 5 for yards all year. Do your homework. NiL is the lazy, low hanging excuse
