This worked perfectly on our dryer knob, my wife used a very tiny zip tie. The plastic had 2 tiny cracks but caught it before any plastic had actually broken off. We subscribed for the future. Thank you Scott!

This worked for me on a 20 year old Holmes pedestal fan. The rotary control knob had broken off. Thanks for the good advice.
This was exactly what I needed! I kept looking for different adhesives and never would have thought of something so simple. (And it's also the solution to how to keep tension on the broken part if you were to glue it back on)
Thank you so much for this idea, will definitely use it if I have that kind of cracked knob. Mine is constructed a little differently since there is an outside circle of plastic around the inner shaft, so your idea wouldn't work. However, you helped me think of a way to fix it and get my $54 back! I wish I could send a pic of it. I was able to slip two pieces of bamboo chopstick between the outer ring and the inner stem. They were the perfect thickness. Holds the cracked part of the inner stem in place perfectly. My husband thought we might need some Gorilla Glue, but it doesn't seem to be needed.

In this one example, yes, it would work, but most often a piece is missing so that zip tie would not work.
I'd just super glue it closed with a paper binder clip holding it shut, then after it is solid, use some 5 minute epoxy inside a short length of drinking straw put over the broken & glued piece to reinforce it.

Nice fix. It's really disappointing that the knobs are a shell instead of solid plastic. Is it really necessary to use a few cents of savings to punish the consumer?

Really thank you for sharing idea of repair you do it in US and i get the benefit while i seating in my home in saudi arabia the knob of GE washing old model difficult to get spare part because it good quality and they wont to kill them i repair 12 knob thank gad i am keep them not throw any part because i believe in one day i will repair it hi hi hi hi

I found some aluminum tube stock. For ge hotpoint it's 11mm inside diameter and it slides on nice with a dab of superglue. I'm an apartment maintenance tech and I'm tired of changing timer knobs constantly. The nicer machines are already reinforced with a ring. I stole the idea from them.
