Docking bow-to also offers a little more privacy from passers-by, while docking stern-to turns the cockpit into more of a patio along the dock, inviting conversation with dock walkers, especially if the boat has an aft cockpit.
Lake of the Woods, where I sailed fresh water, moors the same way for the same reason, rock shore, Canadian Sheild. Watching this was going back 30 years. Thanks. Best wishes
Thank you for your videos. They are so calming and interesting. Your wonderful daughter is at the happy age where everything she sees deserves a beautiful smile - and the natural crying that all children do, because they do not yet have words to express their needs, seems to happen off-camera. How polite of her ;-) Please take many still photos and videos, and put away special toys, perhaps for some future grandchild. There will come a day when you say "Oh I wish I had taken a picture of such and such back then", or "I wish we had kept that favorite toy of hers." I am 70 and I treasure special photos of our granddaughter from the early days of digital cameras, like the day her mother wanted her to no longer rely on her pacifier, so we had a special ceremony to say good-by to the Binkie. They attached the pacifier to a helium balloon all dressed with colorful ribbons. The child released the balloon with its Binkie and streamers attached, and it floated up, up, and away into the blue summer sky of Texas, finally blinking out of sight, way far away . She never again asked for a pacifier from that moment. The scenes of your daughter and the two of you remind me of those pleasant days that can never be recaptured.
As always a lovely video and little Vera is now doing her own voiceover. Glad to hear everyone on the boat got off ok and sad to hear what happened to your boat and how you survived your own fire onboard. Looking forward to the next video and tooth number 3. Fair winds. Greg in the UK
WOW! what a frightening memory Johan shared! He really is an EXPERIENCED sailor! As always your videos are packed with beautiful scenery, fascinating tidbits, ( I had no idea some boats have a windless off the stern) and super sailing. Vera is moving so fast! So cute watching her crawl toward “the bell”!
Vera Is Such a Ray of Sunshine and Love...She Brings a Smile to My face Every Time she makes an Appearance 😍...That is REALLY a Beautiful place to be!!!!! THANKS for Sharing!~
Such a beautiful family!!! I love the calmness and serenity of this sailing adventure, which makes me want to come to Sweden now and sail those archipelagos. That fire story sure was amazing, so blessed everyone made it out safe and no lingering effects from the cyanide poisoning. Thank you for sharing your family and country and I pray all is well with you and R2D2 and hopefully, you are out of lockdown and looking to prepare for the winter journey ahead.
Pizza scissors!? Brilliant. He is right about how fast boat fires excel. I watched one burn while sitting at a restaurant and it was incredible how fast it was from the very start to completely gone. People think because you're surrounded by water a fire should not be a concern but it's amazing how fast that fiberglass will burn.
Wonderful episode. Your anchorage in the archipelago was extraordinary. If I had had the experience with fire on the water that Johan had, I believe I would have taken up golf.
Vera is beautiful what a smile she has. Watching her growing up is like having a baby in the family. Thanks for the videos you guys are a great producers it's so fun to watch
Vera keeps bringing the cuteness! Except for the huge tide swings towards the Bay of Fundy, Sweden's lovely Baltic coast looks much like Maine, USA -- a maze of rocky and quaint archipelagoes and cozy coves, dotted with many a lighthouse, including the looming fog banks offshore. Sweden has the castles and Gotland, though. The "Quintus" seems to have the lines of a Herreshoff. Vera is still cuter -- and probably less maintenance, too (especially when she enjoys using Daddy's tools). Love those waterline swish camera angles underway in good wind, the sound alone plenty refreshing. Johan -- Sailing your dying, long lost second boat with its engine on fire takes courage, and lessened the effects of a potentially worse tragedy. This reminded me of the commercial fishermen I knew from the F/V "Shearwater" in my home port. At the time, I worked the harbor fuel dock, had just pumped some diesel into the "Shearwater" (biggest F/V in the local fleet -- about 2-3 m longer than RAN II, and 2X-3X RAN II's beam). Her captain was a regular customer (I'm withholding the names here), and had just completed an oil change and other routine maintenance on both engines, but apparently missed cleaning up part of a small spill... Well, about 30 minutes out of the harbor, that same inky black plume -- only much larger -- rose skyward from the south. :-(( It hurt plenty to see that. No human casualties, but "Shearwater" was a total loss despite dousing the fire, which took hours. "Shearwater" didn't sink (steel hull), but her heart was completely burned out with the pilot house. Thanks for the lessons you've shared from both RANs about the importance of a safety mindset, good engine maintenance and engine room cleanliness. The voice of experience... Blessings and Well Wishes, S/V Windwalker
Vera is so cute, and talking already,...soon you two will be working the lines, and she will be docking. :) Enjoy your lives together, you three are so blessed. Safe travels.
Your country looks like our state, Minnesota. It is so beautiful. We sailed in Lake Superior for six years before heading to The Bahamas. Getting into the Great Lakes would not be easy for you but it would feel like home.
Oh dear, sorry what happened to one of your old boats. Thankful you survived. It is so nice that your family could come and stay. Beautiful scenes as always. Take care, God bless, Gloria
Another wonderful episode... I just love your calm aproach to all things and that lovely daughter of yours is such a sweetie... Good luck in everything you do...
This episode brings home the concept that cruising is a lifestyle, not a trip. As the needs of your family shifted over the years, you have successfully adjusted your cruising, not ended your "trip". Very well done.
Vera on the sunroof of the boat was surreal. I felt my breath stopping in a gasp, while watching. While I absolutely adore Malin and Johan, Vera is stealing the show.
That's how vikings sometimes burried their dead ones, they put a lot of firewood in the boat with the body on top of it and it put it on fire and let it sail away burning. Thats also how the God Balder who was killed by Lokes cunning guile trick to use Misteltoe as an arrow the only plant they forgott to make a promise to not hurt Balder, Loke let Balders blind brother Höder shot an arrow made out of that Misteltoe that then killed Balder, than all cried and Nana the wife of Balder got get heart broken so she died and also got put upon the firewood beside get belived husband, the ship got so heavy they had to ask one of their enemies among the giants Hyrrokkin to help them put the boat out into the sea, and there out on the sea the couple got cremated on the bjudning boat. So vikings used ses cremations sometimes for some people that got burned on their boats.
I know, speaking to the little one in two languages wil make her bilingual before she is 3-4 years old. Keep it up that is an amazing head start for any little human.
Wow! So beautiful! It reminded me of the time I went from Stockholm to Helsinki by ferry and we cruised through a thousand islands to get there! Definitely a must sail. Bryan from Vancouver
Oh man, I love the Swedish coast line. Both sides... The small islands with rocks/granite and pine trees on the east coast are so beautiful. Also think it's time for Vera to go for the full tomahawk =D Thank you for sharing! Edit: Holy crap! Glad you survived the fire Johan! And thankfully the guys on the boat with a fire made it. Crazy...
So nice. I would love to go visit there while i still can. And to do it on a boat would be best. And the little one! So cute! She is adorable and steals every scene she is in. I must say the headline got my attention for sure. I am glad you, your family, and your boat are good. The more i see of your boat the more i like it. Very nice. Thank you! Be safe and have fun.
To this American, Vera is speaking fluent Swedish. And I'm sure will soon be speaking english. Your experience with the fire will serve you and your family well. I love your channel keep um coming.
RAN II is fine but the title refer to Johan's second boat that caught fire at sea and sank right after they got rescued. Johan tells the story as we see a boat catch fire outside the marina where we are staying. We thought it was an important story to tell and hopefully someone can learn from it! Sorry if anyone got scared by the title. Thanks for watching!
Wow!! Incredible story Johan. Glad you all were rescued safely, at least. I have plans from Glen-L to build a 21' (~6.4m) sail boat. I will definitely NOT be cheaping out on fire retardant after hearing this. 😳
I am so very glad y'all are fine. Sorry you lost a past sail boat to fire but glad your both fine and dandy!!. I so enjoy seeing Sweden thru your lens... An to see Vera growing up smiling an so very adorable!⛵🌴❤💪😊❗
Glad it was not your new yacht! Seems as if there are many fires in Sweden; Carrie Soderberg, a radio journalist in Sweden, was talking on Australian radio (ABC) early this morning of the continual unrest in many cities and towns over there. The burnings and worse must be cause for worry. Your mobility is great though and offers safety. A wonderfully produced video.
Hi, when in YARMOUTH I O W UK last week and saw my first live Najad getting ready to sail ,had to stop and ask about their yacht ,they to have been following you ,then came along two HALL -B- RASSY a Swedish boat regatta DAY .Another fine video .take care .
Yes I also know that big stones there 2016 we enjoyed the area around Stockholm. But what for me was nice - in opposite to the western Sweden there in the east there are good visible signs on every stone. When you complain about motorboats - I assume every motorboat in Sweden first gets the motor tuned and then is christened 😉 They are always on the run - not to forget the ferries. Vera begins to compete with Lenny - both are smiling when the camera is on 😍 - You had some ugly weather out in the archipelago. How much of the wind do you experience when hiding in the small sounds?
In our USA marina, you docked bow in if you wanted privacy. If you docked stern in, everyone going past on the dock would look in. Fine if you wanted company. Bad if you wanted privacy. Go RAN!
Another great RAN Sailing production. Haha I did the double take as well when I read the title. If I had not been following you on Instagram so I knew the boat was OK. Great history on mooring in Sweden and the tale of the burned boat. Watch out for Vera's new flesh removal units (baby teeth)! When mine were that age they liked to teethe by chewing on everything and liked my finger knuckles the best - ouch! Thanks for sharing.
You gave us quite scare with that title... almost had a heart attack! Sweden is beautiful, Scandinavia is! Love the Northern countries and peoples. Thanks for taking us along...
I'm guessing you are a little behind in your videos. Your track shows you already back home and I have finally caught up on your videos to this, your last one, but I thought I had missed your trip through the canal! As long as I haven't missed it, I'm glad to wait. Sorry you seem to have missed out on the archipelago in the north of the larger lake
Top class vlog guys as usual . Cool to see you having a good time in these crappy circumstances and great to see Vera growing her first teeth . They love to bite unsuspecting fingers ,lol Fair winds and stay safe out there :-D
Another great episode! So nice there. Any idea how that fire started on Johan's old boat? Fuel leak maybe? Shows you have to be very quick with the fire extinguishers!
Docking bow-to also offers a little more privacy from passers-by, while docking stern-to turns the cockpit into more of a patio along the dock, inviting conversation with dock walkers, especially if the boat has an aft cockpit.

Wow what a piece of art is that 72ft boat! Million likes for naval architect! Also, thank you to, for keeping new episodes coming! Bra job!
I love the "subtitled conversations" with Vera; its so cute to know what she's _really saying_ 😀
Thank you for your videos. They are so calming and interesting. Looks like the 1000 Islands on the St Lawrence River in NY...... Beautiful !
I thought the same thing - exactly like the 1000 Islands!
Vera Is Such a Ray of Sunshine and Love...She Brings a Smile to My face Every Time she makes an Appearance 😍...That is REALLY a Beautiful place to be!!!!! THANKS for Sharing!~
Your boat sails if it’s on rails.
Super cool 😎
Vera is stealing the show.. she is so pretty.
Coolest sailing kid of the north.
Thanks! We love her! 😊
Jste krásní lidé,
veliká gratulace k vašemu miminku.
Hodně štěstí milý přátelé. Jan

That Quintos sailboat is truly beautiful - enjoying the sailing tour of the archipelago -

Yep, fire on board is an utmost danger. Beautiful video, as always. Thank you so much! My special congrats on 2 teeth!!
Great video. I missed a few because of work. The “ archipelago “ boat looked like it was doing 15 knots sitting at the dock. Ran II is beautiful.
So glad you guys are not involved in the fire........great story about the fire you had on your old boat! Outstanding!
Beautiful area! It is shockingly similar looking to our 1000 Islands areas here in Canada. Keep up the great work. Craig
Very nice video Thank You for showing your beautiful part of the world and relaxing music started my day right !
Wonderful..j'ai remenber my wonderful life in Sweden..thank you 😁👍👍👍👍

Another amazing video and Vera is certainly the steeling the show from the sailing right now!
Again, I am loving traveling around Sweden. It's a dream come true. Thank you!
Great stuff! Years long viewer and full time livaboard in Hamilton, Ontario. Keep it up!
The tower seen at around 13:55 mark is named Spårö Båk (båk=beacon), built in 1776-77.
You folks have a nice setup. Thanks for sharing.
My heart jumped!! So glad all is well! Vera is getting more beautiful each episode; happy family!!
Beautiful video, beautiful family, love you're content. Vera's little smile is enough to cheer anyone 😄
Beautiful!!!
Thanks for sharing-

Wild story about the fire. You have Viking blood in you for sure. Sailing a boat that is on fire. Crazy.

So vikings used ses cremations sometimes for some people that got burned on their boats.
What an amazing adventure this must be for a baby to grow up in. Very cute baby.
I think my next boat should be purchased in Scandanavia, then cruise the Baltic for a summer. It really is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing that story. Fire at sea is a worry for every sailor.
I know, speaking to the little one in two languages wil make her bilingual before she is 3-4 years old. Keep it up that is an amazing head start for any little human.
English and Swedish... I think she gues the BFF of the also new Delos-Crewmember. ^^

The title scared us (whew). Beautiful location reminds us so much of the west coast of British Columbia.
Another beautiful video with amazing drone shots and more great adventures.😘
at 14:10min wow what a creep that boat was. In Canada he would lose his license if caught.
Another great video. I’m enjoying this trip so much. Vera is such a sweetie!
To this American, Vera is speaking fluent Swedish. And I'm sure will soon be speaking english. Your experience with the fire will serve you and your family well. I love your channel keep um coming.
lovely content and quality, you earned a new follower, Tack så mycket.

I saw the “my boat” and figured you would have said “our boat” if it had been you. Glad to hear everyone is okay and how fun to meet up with family 😊
Thanks guys!
A wonderful video, love watching Vera grow.
Wow!! Incredible story Johan. Glad you all were rescued safely, at least. I have plans from Glen-L to build a 21' (~6.4m) sail boat. I will definitely NOT be cheaping out on fire retardant after hearing this. 😳
That anchorage looks a lot like the Gulf Islands in BC.
I just realized that my newest grandson is about the same age as Vera! You have a beautiful family. May God bless you and keep you all safe.
Almost got a Heart Attack !! glad you guys are OK
Thank you so much for the CC!

We saw Ran II when you where in Visby we went to say hi but you where probably out somewhere/ Gitte and Anders at Fridá af Wisby
13:30 the motorboat! Seriously dude. I would have been soooo mad!
That is one cute little munchkin! Precious! Think of all she will learn in her life.
Sorry Johann I think you are a great man and you have a great family
Happy to hear u 3 r all okay!
Beautiful area. Looks a lit like the San Juan islands in Washington state
You gave us quite scare with that title... almost had a heart attack!
Sweden is beautiful, Scandinavia is! Love the Northern countries and peoples. Thanks for taking us along...
Great video of great places and scary fire at sea story.
you are such a wonderful family and Vera is a beauty!🍒
Very nice episode, thanks !! Wondering if Quintus is a Reimers, Swede 55 ??
I don’t know, very similar design to the Swede55 but I don’t think they are this long. Beautiful boat!
@@RANSailing Thanks a lot & Fair winds fm Brazil !!
Happy New Year!

Such a beautiful country.
Very beautiful. I am happy for all of you.
Awesome video guys! Maybe we should head up the Swedish east coast instead of returning to Germany. Sooo beautiful!
Vera was outstanding, especially her scene at the helm. Pizza, it's what for dinner.
So glad you guys are alright
WOW, I'm happy you and your friends got off the boat.
Sure reminds me of Georgian Bay Lake Huron in Ontario Canada .
Remembering your Gulf Islands sail, looks very similar. Best, Adam, Tofino.CA
Top class vlog guys as usual .
Cool to see you having a good time in these crappy circumstances and great to see Vera growing her first teeth . They love to bite unsuspecting fingers ,lol
Fair winds and stay safe out there
:-D
Thank you thank you
Another great episode! So nice there. Any idea how that fire started on Johan's old boat? Fuel leak maybe? Shows you have to be very quick with the fire extinguishers!
Electrical fire, an overheated cable most probably... Scary stuff!
