  • One way to understand the development of resilience is to visualize a balance scale or seesaw. Protective experiences and coping skills on one side counterbalance significant adversity on the other. Resilience is evident when a child’s health and development tips toward positive outcomes - even when a heavy load of factors is stacked on the negative outcome side.
    By working together across sectors to implement policies and programs that support children and caregivers, we can help children develop resilience.

    Thank you for your always excellent content. As a forest school leader and outdoor learning and play consultant, I am very interested in the role of self-directed free play, mastery experiences, and the value of risk-taking in play as a means for children to develop resilience. Are you aware of any research related to this?
