I was fortunate enough to have driven an early 1950's Cadillac Coupe w/factory air that had the stainless flipper panel along the front side windows. The car belonged to my sisters' friend.
Jay you pulled another rabbit out of your hat with this gorgeous Olds 98! I expected it to have an automatic not a 3 O.T.T. making it very rare. It'll sell fast I feel. I love this gen of Olds! Great color combo.
This Car reminds me of the Car my Grandfather owned, a 1954 Chrysler Imperial 2 Door. It was massive and slow. It had a Hemi Engine, Cigarette Lighters and Ashtrays in the Armrest, Power Windows, Automatic Transmission, Power Front Seats, Power Steering, those Rope Grap things that ran on the backs of the Front Seat so the Rear Passenger can hold on to something? He called it "The Machine." He gave it to my older Brother around 1970, who owned it for another 15 years.
Jay, the Buick Rocket 88 for 1953 was the 303, with the 324 following in 1954. It had 8:1 compression (up from 1952's 7.5:1compression ratio) and a whopping 165 hp. You have been selling old cars for awhile and it can be easy to mix up some of the '50's GM engines. The '50's GM engine with 364 CID is the Buick nailhead of 1957.

I like the curves of the 53 Olds more than the 54, that had a more boxy look. Automatic transmission was the norm for Oldsmobile by 1953, but this one has a standard column shift. Very odd choice but I suppose the owner had a reason for ordering it that way. I can't imagine it was randomly made with a standard transmission.
Actually there was a reason I had forgotten about until now. As a result many Cadillacs and Oldsmobile’s were fitted with Buick Dynaflows or the dealers pushed manuals to customers who would accept them. Chevrolet Powerglides found their way into a lot of Pontiac’s. Pontiac pushed manuals too during that tough time. Anyone can Google Hydramatic Plant Fire. It was a bad time for GM and they had to scramble!

You'd think that brand name mfrs would be specific only to their brand to hold back competition, but just like the arms industry, they sell to anybody practically. That fire was in August of 1953. That olds was probably built well before the fire. You'd think that fire would have impacted the 1954 models more or was the car industry not on the September release schedule yet? I heard that Sept release of new models has a historical story too.
Until his 1961 Oldsmobile which was only available with an automatic transmission, my father especially ordered his cars with a standard transmission, regardless the model. He insisted a standard transmission increased gasoline mileage per gallon. The Great Depression had a massive influence on his world view, as it may have had with the original owner of this 98.
@@mkofftiger I've never forgotten the 1965 Olds Jetstar, 4 door sedan, I saw with factory standard column shift. It was also a new car as it was 1965 I saw it. It had to be special ordered that way. The gear shift had a black type ball on the end instead of the slender cylinder design on the automatic shifter.
Actually the Fiesta was the top of the line but only 458 were built. I had one of these 98s in 1978-79. Fun days. FYI: the engine is 303 c.i.d. In 1954 it was bored out to 324 and 1957 into a 371.
It looks like the passenger side rear shock is missing a bushing and the red bushing on the driver's side has an incorrect red bushing but the bolts don't look tight.
I'm curious, like with the powet sest, why wouldnt you have your guys make it right? I would think for 50K you would have everything working, it kind of takes away from the car without it.
Believe it or not, more and more often classic dealers have stopped doing any real reconditioning or repairs. I believe Volo now just polishes up all the cars it sells without doing any but the most necessary repairs. Nothing wrong with that, its their choice how to run their business. One of my brothers bought an Olds 442 convertible from them a few years ago and I would say that I was surprised with how his car was represented vs. how it was received. Oh, the perils of buying online and trusting the seller, caveat emptor. My brother next bought a classic Mercedes. Lessons learned, this time he flew out to the seller (not Volo) to personally inspect the car.
@@Thomas63r2 Buying a Used Car or anything valuable on Pictures and a Text Description can be challenging. Very Good Condition to the Seller can be Good Condition to the Buyer and there is a difference if you are the Buyer thinking you are buying Very Good Condition. Take a look at this youtube video with the title of "MECUM AUCTION IS A RIPOFF!!" by Haro C. He bought a Camaro from Mecum and he's unhappy with the condition it's in.
@@sanfranciscobay I saw the Mecum ripoff video yesterday. I do agree that different people can have different views - but that guy got creamed on that Camaro. My word is my bond: I was actually in the car business for a number of years and even sold online toward the end before I retired ~ 10 years ago. I never had any complaints, and I don't think any true professional would either. The Mecum employee falsely described that Camaro to the online buyer, and Mecum should just refund this guy's money and avoid further embarrassment. Mecum's buyer assistant over described and wrongly described that Camaro - calling many things new when in fact they were not, that is unethical. I think the Camaro buyer has an excellent case against Mecum - it will be interesting to hear how, or if, this gets resolved. I would have fired any of my employees who willfully or carelessly mislead an online buyer - no good businessman wants that kind of reputation.

Those plates are not the originals. Those ran from 63-69. The originals are the same color, but different in size running from 51-55 And the California lettering is on the bottom.
OMG, I JUST SAW THE PRICE...THIS CAR IS A STEAL! I've watched over 100 of these Videos and there are some very reasonable prices for some very unique and beautiful cars. In my humble opinion, this is an absolutely fantastic deal! btw, never met Jay, don't work for him, I'm just a life long car guy!

Three speed? Wow! That's rare. Most Olds 98's, in those days, had the Hydra-matic.

If GM can resurrect Hummer with little heritage then Oldsmobile is certainly worth far more effort.
