- What do you do when your world starts to crumble around you?
(Disclaimer: I structured the plot of this “what-if” animation as a sorta, “learn more the longer you watch it”. So perhaps it’s better watched without context first before reading further. However, if you do need context, feel free to read. FYI tho, I’m not gonna to explain everything lol, if the vid’s of any quality the context clues should be good enough for anyone to form a decent timeline. But before that, let me do credits real quick.)

Most sprites were obtained from Spriters Resource, all other sprites made/edited by me.
Deltarune by Toby Fox.
So, with all the theories and speculations about Deltarune between its two chapters so far, there’s been a lot of predictions people have been making about future chapters. Stuff like, “Ralsei will turn evil”, “Gaster will be the knight”, etc. One speculation that many fans seem to think is likely is for Rudy to pass due to his illness at some point in a future chapter. For anyone unaware, the fact that his Undertale parallel is deceased seemed to mirror his fate along with the amalgamate-turned monsters, who are actually deceased in Deltarune. As I’m writing this we can’t know for sure, but I decided to run with the scenario and put my own take on the idea. So that’s the subject of the animation, the epilogue to a hypothetical future chapter in Deltarune, say chapter 5, 6 or whatever. Rudy passed in the previous chapter, and Noelle goes missing in the current one, in a similar fashion to how her sister did ages ago. This prompts the whole town to conduct an immediate search party the night of to prevent another tragedy, which is more or less where the animation begins…
(tl;dr: Rudy dead. Noelle missing. The gang goes at night to find her.)
Ok, with all that said. OH MY GOD DID THIS TAKE LONGER THAN I THOUGHT. I thought for sure I’d have this done in, like, two weeks (and arguably it could’ve been), but man this was a long one. In fact, it easily takes the spot of the longest animation I ever made, not even a competition. In case anyone was curious, the concept of this scenario came to me as I was relistening to some Chapter 2 tracks on UA-cam, specifically “Lost Girl”. Reading the comments now, a lot of fans thought for sure that the song would be used in a sad scene. But that’s not what happened, it was actually pretty wholesome in its use in Chapter 2. So, that got me thinking, if the song was to be used in a sad scene, what kind of scene would it be used in. I quickly figured that the subject of Rudy’s illness would be most likely, since many fans assume he’s gonna kick the bucket somewhere down the line. So I got to thinking up the entire scenario and even coming up with a script for it. However, as I kept ironing out details I had to expand the script just to build up the moment more and give more of an authentic feel to the idea. So before I knew it, I had 20 pages of script to animate and a nearly half hour video to show for it. Not to mention other responsibilities in my life, plus, minor setbacks, that delayed this thing even more. For anyone who was waiting in anticipation for this, well, I hope you like it lol.
Speaking of which, damn. I didn’t think I’d be making something this “genuine”. I mean, it’s not the first time I’ve tried making a convincing Deltarune animation, but the last one was based on someone else’s idea, not to mention it was only two minutes long and only had to be creepy to accomplish its goal. This tho, was my own idea, with a proper script n’ stuff, I got no memes or jokes to fall back on. And the fact that it gets emotional near the end, felt like kinda a risk on my part. This might sound lame, but it feels odd putting a genuine idea of mine out there on the internet. I feel like I can be a confident writer/animator at points but sometimes I do wonder if what I put out there is as good as it could be. The ending especially, I rewrote that part, like, three times trying to improve and even then I’m not entirely sure about it. But it’s necessary. After all, you can’t improve as a creator without putting yourself out there. Quality or not, cringe or not. So it’s whatever. Man it sucks editing long videos together, every time I correct an error I have to export stuff again. I better not find a single mistake in this damn thing after I upload or I'm gonna be pissed lmao. In any case, it was pretty cool to come up with a concept that wasn’t based on Snowgrave stuff (tho Snowgrave stuff is still really cool), so I am proud of that. Lol maybe if this vid actually does well I could make a “Snowgrave” version of this vid, which is pretty unlikely since the UA-cam algorithm hasn’t blessed me in years.

I love this structure
the way Noelle described everything and how she felt perfectly encapsulates the feeling of losing someone you love. I personally lost someone very close to me and its traumatizing. You wish you could have done more and you feel like its your fault and it never is. You did all you could do and its not your fault. When someone dies you feel alone and afraid everyone else will leave you too. You feel like there will come a time where everyone leaves you and your going to be alone with your pain. But the truth is there will always be someone there, someone with you in the dark, someone to hold your hand when the light is running low. It can be anyone and could even be an animal. It could be anything but it will always be there holding onto you and keeping you from losing hope. You may never recover from the loss of a loved one, but you can accept they are gone and look towards the future.
Thank you, I really wanted to handle the issue of loss well, considering it’s something everyone faces at some point in their lives. Beautifully spoken.

I don’t think enough people realize this, but I love how the end has an miniature reference to Asriel. Choosing “Comfort” in either example will result in a hug, and at first I thought this was a coincidence, until Noelle said the line, “I don’t want to let go” MMMMM. It might be 7 YEARS OLD but I still love Undertale so much, just as much as Deltarune (Though I do prefer Undertale over Chapter 1) Both are still great games which is why I loves callbacks to it so much.😃

this is canon to me. i literally don't care. everything about this is so perfect. the characters are written so well and the plot moves so smoothly. it was such a gut punch to see a fifth grave and come to the horrifying realization about rudy and what asgore meant. and the scene with kris comforting noelle...it just feels like something toby would make. this is so underrated.

@@Grandmother628 Eh, I based the logic off of that one scene in Chapter 2 where Kris and Susie overhear Monster Kid and Snowdrake talk about the bunker door. Despite being nearby, they don’t notice them until Susie confronts them directly. Besides, because this takes place at night time, it’s easier to suspend your disbelief with how much other people can see them!

Honestly this feels like something that could genuinely happen in later chapters based on what we know now.
The reveal near the end really hit hard given my experience with something similar as well.

This is easily the best Deltarune fanimation I've seen. It looks exactly like something that would play out in the actual game, down to the tiniest details like the slight gap in the tileset where the path through the forest was. The dialogue was spot-on too, especially with Susie. Lots of fan works have her be too one-note, such as Deltatraveler or Kris Performs Surgery, but she struck the perfect balance of mischief, comedy, and serious introspection. Wonderful work!

The Hyperlink Spamton animation looks like it will be the best so far in terms of animation quality, but this sappy stuff is where I get my serotonin lol

I know everyone gushes at how awesome and believably canon this is, especially in regards to the heart wrenching ending, but I need to say that I feel so bad for Asgore. He’s just still at home, worried about his kid and has no idea he’s been abandoned.

it was this minor exchange between sans and susie that made me realize just how much the little details matter in these fan creations. sans won’t tell anyone that susie and kris are out searching, but he won’t *promise* to tell anyone because he hates making promises! anyone who has observed undertale long enough would know this bit of information. such an outstanding job!

That scene where they all embrace one another brought a tear to my eye. Wonderful animation.
I can’t help to feel bad for Asgore though, he just wants to reconcile and everyone is leaving him out to dry. Hope they all went back for him and had that cup of tea after all this.

When I watched this for the first time, I thought it was Chapter 2. Although it isn’t acoding to the desc. Which means, it could be an aborted snowgrave route- or, what it seemed like, pacifist. If it WAS aborted snowgrave, that’d mean everyone ignored what happened except for Berdly?? But I’m probably looking too far into this

@@spiriox I think this is set in a pacifist timeline post Chapter 2, In my opinion Berdly hugs last because he doubts that he has been a good enough friend to Noelle to console her, he is afraid she might detest him and that he’s just going to make things worse for her.

literally during the entire scene with berdly and the graveyard gate I was just saying "or, just, you know, go around the gate. Like, yeah, that's cool, or just go around it. Yes, berdly, there is another way in, just go around the gate."
Oh my gosh, I love this so much! I adore basically everything about it, but I think my favorite part of it is probably Berdly trying to be a good friend. I think about his and Noelle's awkward friendship all the time, and the part where he was worried about meeting her because he figured he'd be the last person she'd want to see... man. That hit different. I was kind of worried that he wouldn't really get to be a part of this story, as I'm used to seeing him treated in fanworks as not really an important part of the friend group, at least not in the same way that Noelle is. Believe it or not, Berdly means a lot to me, and seeing him here being a friend made me so happy. I especially love the moment where he kind of missed the cue to join the group hug, but then he does when Susie called him over. It's a detail that both fits with him just being bad at 'reading' people, and perhaps him not really being sure that Noelle would want a hug from him. It's so good aaaaaaaaaaaa

Honestly the best Deltarune animation I’ve seen to date. The writing was excellent and imitated Toby’s writing style very nicely, the animation and sprites were on point, most dialogue options were great and you remembered that this is supposed to be a game, and took extra care to make it look like something playable. The „your choices don’t matter“ moment when you should choose wether or not Berdly joins the team is a nice example of that. Overall, great job!

I gotta say that I love how you wrote the ending. Specifically with the whole strength and grief in trying to comfort Noelle. It was very heartwarming, and I genuinely started crying when it was revealed that Rudy passed. Susie relating her struggles in being perceived as tough was a good comparison and you just really got the characters so on point. Good Work!!!

I don't have anything to say except that I think this is _really_ well-made. The writing is wonderful and every character feels alive, like Kris really does live in a small town where people care about each other. I loved the inversion of the typical "go and talk to everyone to see the story" by making this a stealth mission, too. All in all, great job.

I know I'm repeating myself but, once again, to think that I, a kid with ADHD and Autism, felt NOTHING, NOTHING at Rudy's illness and Dess's vanishing, and all the pains Noelle and Berdly went through... THIS SOMEHOW WAS SO GOOD THAT I FELT IT! I can you not, when they all hugged Noelle I shed a tear of happiness. I already subscribed so the best I can do is like the vid and RING THAT BELL!
Man, when i saw the preview on Reddit i thought it was gonna be just Kris and Susie messing around town at night,with maybe some dark world shenanigans,but damn,that was deep.I really liked how you structured all of it,also the sprites were on point, very toby-ish,dialog was very catching,ending was ready sad.

Deltarune is a parallel to undertale in many ways, Alphys and Undyne don’t know each other, for example
In Undertale, Rudy is dead and Dess is not dissapeared, so maybe in Deltarune Rudy will live

I gotta say, of all the random fan animations I've seen for this game, this one actually feels the most in character. I feel like some people never bother figuring out the little speech mannerisms of characters and just sort of use a default voice instead and, most of the time, you were totally using a voice for each character that felt like their own. It effects a lot, like how they say certain things and, thus, articulate ideas. Shit's crucial.
Wow this looks so real! Great storytelling, kept surprising me about what was gonna come next and I think it's a very realistic part of the story for deltarune to have. It's also crazy that stuff like this is an animation, it looks real to the point where I'd assume it's a mod if not for the title

so theoretically, if this were a game, would you imagine there being several routes? like one where you follow the events of this video, some where you try leaving later in the night / from the other entrances, and others where you stay the whole night?
Mostly yeah! Of course, it’d follow the rules of Deltarune where each choice would have varying effect and all ultimately lead to the same ending.
and what would happen if this occured after a weird run?

Considering that this is a game where your choices don't matter, it would all lead up to the same thing, unfortunately. Like every other multiple choice game, except Undertale.

I think it’d be cool if what’s shown here is a “good ending” of sorts. If you don’t take the bouquet and leave the cemetery, you should get caught by Toriel and something changes later on, like Noelle doesn’t show up in later chapters.
That’s a pretty good idea for a neutral route. Similar in theme to how Berdly was hurt in the neutral route of chapter 2.
while watching sometimes i actually forgot i was watching a fan animation lol. you did a really good job! realizing towards the end that the flowers where actually meant for rudys grave was really well done, i figured rudy was still in hospital untill that scene

Yooooo, I am totally thinking this is a real possibility for the plot!
I think with all the imagery surrounding Noelle being "the angel" and Ralsei mentioning in chapter one that we need to stop "the angel's heaven" it makes me think of soooooo many things that COULD happen with Noelle and her family to lead to that.
My most thought through theory/idea/speculation is that Rudy's condition is going to either get worse, or he'll die. Noelle will open a dark fountain in the hospital (or the graveyard) to try and save his life/bring him back to life. When this ultimately fails to heal him/bring him back to life, she'll be convinced (probably by the Knight) to open a second dark fountain, commencing the Roaring.
After doing to gameplay trying to find your way through the endless darkness of the Roaring, we'll end up in "The Angel's Heaven" which would be a perfect dark world, based around Noelle's ideal 'heaven'. Rudy alive and healthy, her mom in a happy and pleasant mood, her sister no longer dead/missing, and probably Susie being her Girlfriend. And then the game'll have us RIP it all away from her to save the world.
Amazing animation!, I love it!, it's pretty well made and it feels pretty official too!, I really hope that Rudy doesn't end up dead tho, that would be really depressing, even though there are a lot of signs that something bad will happen to him eventually, I hope he'll be alright, especially because of Noelle and her fears, they both deserve to be happy

Wow.... just... wow. This is incredible sprite-work and amazing writing. You really nailed the characters down entirely. I was expecting a dark twist, like Snowgrave-levels, but it's so refreshing to see something so deeply personal like this. Excellent work. I'm off to check out your other works now. It's very rare that someone writing the Deltarune characters manages to get every single character right. I cannot sing your praises enough. I forgot I was watching a fan-animation a couple times. If you haven't considered entering the writing field in some capacity, I would definitely recommend looking into a job in that field. Cheers!

It's surprisingly rare to have UT/DR fan animations that are this in-game consistent, in terms of visuals, characterization and lore/story.
Yeah, I really wanted to go for consistency within the animation, to make it feel really authentic. I’m glad to see it payed off!
@@SpriterMike I also admire the fact that you let the whole scenario play in its own right. As much of a hopeless deep lore junkie as I am, including Dark World or Gaster stuff in this rather personal and grounded scenario would have made it feel more cheap, at least in most cases. Just letting these characters take in the moment and comfort Noelle after her father's death was definitely the right move. I like that. =>
That was such a great and heartwarming animation, the writing is extremely on point and I loved every bit of it, almost feels like it's canon due to how well-made it is. Great work!

the reveal that Rudy had passed was amazing. I don’t know if it was stated earlier, I just assumed the flowers were for Rudy in the hospital, and noelle had gone missing for another reason…that was amazing.

I'm so happy to see someone put this much work into a non-snowgrave oriented fanwork, ever since deltarune chapter 2 came out I had wished it had taken longer to find out about the snowgrave route, players could have enjoyed characters like Noelle and Spamton, without non-stop associating them with a secret route, the exact same thing happened to sans when the genocide route gained traction on the internet, and in my opinion it ruins a good character
Thanks, it was fun making a Noelle scenario that didn’t explicitly focus on murder for once lol! Funny enough, I do plan on making a Snowgrave version eventually just to juxtapose with this version. Don’t worry tho, I’ll be putting my own “flair” on things to make it something unique and special, if you’re cool with that lol

This made me feel calm, exclusively the comfort at the end. When you lose someone you love, you miss them at the point of wanting to stay in their grave for a lot of time. But at the end, we are never alone, there will always be someone for you. Don't be stuck in the past, take a look of what do you have today.

This feels like it could really happen in later chapters. Beautiful animation. In the end when Kris comforted Noelle it reminded me of Frisk comforting Asriel in Undertale. She even said the same thing.

I lost my two baby brother's when I was 10 and seeing Noelle here is what I felt when I lost both of them, I felt vulnerable and thought I wasn't a good brother, but in the end it wasn't anyone's fault, the song "don't forget" always reminds me that even if my siblings are gone and I'm at my worst, they're with me in the dark

Edit: I just read the description. You did everything perfectly. You stuck the landing perfectly with the emotional scene at the end, especially in how you showed Susie has grown in her emotional intelligence. You did an outstanding job. And you didn't rely on Snowgrave stuff. I'll admit, I thought that's what I was gonna get, but you made something emotionally resonant and thus something far beyond whatever cool aesthetics and intriguing mystery that Snowgrave could provide. I want to see you hone your craft further as a writer.
