He'd love to cry out and claim his innocence right there when she said she had hope, but her life matters more than his. If he were to be killed he will be the only cost, not anyone else. He was caught probably messing around with more of the military supplies in order to seem like he was sabotaging them but in reality, his technical blabber about the military kept this organization at bay. But this couldn't go on forever. He was bound by a secret. He was tasked to sabotage his partner's platoon and lead them to certain death, only to misinform the organization and lead them to *almost* meeting their maker. His situation was dire. Silence in exchange for the safety of the friends at arms he made, and for the woman he loved. Even if it causes him his reputation... and his life.

The only difference between soldiers like me and you is that you fight for a flag, I fight for an idea. I have my orders, "Seek and destroy the enemy" and if you can't handle that then I pray you never get in front of my gun sight, because I will not hesitate to kill. I am not a traitor, but instead a different kind of soldier, the one who kills on order. A good soldier follows orders, no matter what. I have not the heart nor capacity to regret, so I continue. If what I do shatters your heart, then so be it, another useless casualty in another useless war. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a river of blood to create.
I really think this would make a good series. I personally love war stories, and I love a “once friends now enemies” scenario. I just watched this video tonight, and I’ve already have a bunch of ideas of how this story could start and end. Please make this a series!

Guaranteed we were made to do what we did from some higher ups. Probably to make Female Winter Soldier over here go on a heartless murder spree to wipe out the enemy we're at war with, because now she's under the impression that the person she loved was a turn coat or an enemy the whole time and killed a squad mate. I mean, think about it. If we were REALLY an enemy, why would we: create strong bonds with everyone, fight side by side, make this powerful woman fall in love with us, really worm our way in, and then what? Kill William, the bright eyed, eager to make friends, squadie that shined my boots? As well as to do it during a mission at a point where we hadn't even found the enemy yet and not during a hectic firefight to keep it concealed? Doubt we were smuggling info out, cause what rat would compromise their position by killing someone and injuring others in such a sloppy ass manner? Why didn't we just leak where we were being deployed and have the rest of the squad be mowed down in an ambush, become the sole survivor of a squad wipe, get reassigned, and start the process again? This is a movie scenario where we find out in the end that the higher ups gave us a choice: Either kill that weak link, William, and get caught to push Female Winter Soldier into being a cold killing machine or they will kill Female Winter Soldier because she's becoming too dangerous or something or other. Our love for her pushes us to take out poor William before we find any enemies and then we get some others injured to really sell it. Bada-bing-bada-boom now we're here. Sworn to keep it a secret for her safety and accepting that she may never love/forgive us, but she's alive. Or we really are evil and just a moron... Guaranteed we were made to do what we did from some higher ups. Probably to make Female Winter Soldier over here go on a heartless murder spree to wipe out the enemy we're at war with, because now she's under the impression that the person she loved was a turn coat or an enemy the whole time and killed a squad mate.
I mean, think about it. If we were REALLY an enemy, why would we: create strong bonds with everyone, fight side by side, make this powerful woman fall in love with us, really worm our way in, and then what? Kill William, the bright eyed, eager to make friends, squadie that shined my boots? As well as to do it during a mission at a point where we hadn't even found the enemy yet and not during a hectic firefight to keep it concealed?
Doubt we were smuggling info out, cause what rat would compromise their position by killing someone and injuring others in such a sloppy ass manner? Why didn't we just leak where we were being deployed and have the rest of the squad be mowed down in an ambush, become the sole survivor of a squad wipe, get reassigned, and start the process again?
This is a movie scenario where we find out in the end that the higher ups gave us a choice: Either kill that weak link, William, and get caught to push Female Winter Soldier into being a cold killing machine or they will kill Female Winter Soldier because she's becoming too dangerous or something or other. Our love for her pushes us to take out poor William before we find any enemies and then we get some others injured to really sell it. Bada-bing-bada-boom now we're here. Sworn to keep it a secret for her safety and accepting that she may never love/forgive us, but she's alive.
Or we really are evil and just a moron...
