What an incredible horse. My first horse racing memory.

Steve Cauthen was such a brilliant rider. Amazing. Obviously, the horse was a brilliant athlete, too.

Best jockey to ride/pace a horse in a race, he had a clock in his head. That's what the American jockeys learn & thats why Henry Cecil & Sheikh Mohammed took him as owner/trainer gave him the job No1.

The better researched will have noted that Slip Anchor had subsequent King George, Irish Derby and Breeders Cup winners a long, long way behind him that day.
Unfortunately, Slip Anchor sustained a serious knee injury in his box following this race and sadly, despite the best efforts of Henry Cecil and his team was never able to fully recover his former brilliance - perhaps best displayed here and at the Lingfield Derby Trial where he demolished another good field in contemptuous style by about 10 lengths.
Henry Cecil when asked after the Derby if 'Slip Anchor' would likely meet his Oaks and subsequent triple crown winning filly 'Oh So Sharpe' - replied "no, Slip Anchor would gallop her into the ground".

    Guau!!
Que fantastica carrera hizo el caballo que se adelanto por varios metros de los demas, de derrepente le acelero y corrio fenomenalmente con unas grandes zancadas jjegando hacer el primero en cruzar la meta.
    Saludos desde México! 🇲🇽

Has a horse ever won a Derby more easily?

Cauthen was a great judge of pace, Affirmed, old vic and reference point, although no way slip Anchor was as good as any of those

I would have thought he was as good as Old Vic.

@@nightowl7459 he wasn't as good as old vic sure he never won a race after the derby

@@robertdelacy3434 He got injured straight afterwards, all Old Vic did was catch them a little unprepared when he won the French Derby, followed up in a so, so Irish Derby and never won after that, I think Slip Anchors English Derby is Stronger than Old Vic's French version, and let's not forget that Cauthen even described him better than his Triple Crown winner Affirmed.
