Quite a few nature photographers here on UA-cam unfortunately use "music" that has absolutely no bearing on the subjects in their video. In this video you have used exactly the right musical accompaniment for these shots of the godwits, etc. Thank you. My musical sensibilities thank you Mike! ❤❤❤
Great video Mike, your videos are the only videos/TV program I ever watch religiously 😂 Having owned Olympus I know just how sharp their pro series glass is. Selling the system was a regret. I was until recently using the Sony A7iii with the 200-600 and whilst the A7iii wasn't the A1, it had great AF on a level that I hadn't experienced before. The dynamic range for my landscape was superb. But it's gone, due to the sensor doubling as a vacuum cleaner. I'd even get 5-10 new spots after a session without even changing lenses that may not be removable with the blower. The experience put me off the system sadly. I never had to clean my Olympus sensors once, and my old Canon DSLRs only about twice a year! I am looking forward to seeing more about the new Olympus camera, I think they have some of the best ergonomics of all camera systems
Interesting video and certainly looks a fantastic lens. Now that I'm retired a bit out of my price range. I had to smile that you were unhappy with autofocus and IQ at 2000mm @ F11 using a 1.25 and 2x converter. I remember when I was happy to even have AF at F8, usually limited to 5.6. This setup would have been a beast in Africa where my setup was Nikon D700 (full frame 12mpx) and 200-400 with 1.4 converter. Just goes to show what we expect from these modern cameras. I have ordered the OM-1, upgrade from OMD EM-1 mk2. I look forward to testing it with my 300/4 and even the 1.4 converter as well.
Thank you Mike! It’s look like a fabulous Lens!! I just ordered a OM1 to use with my 300mm f4 and 40-150mm f2.8! I’m asking my self since 2020 if I should change my Olympus system (I would probably use Nikon Z) but I just waited (and waited…), because the Em/OM fits perfectly in my hands! I hope that the OM1, if not perfect (I would love to have 4k120, for example), will reduce the distance in AF and IQ compared to the FF Cameras. Many people are complaining about the price of the Camera 2199€, but personally I understand the price as a fair price. I love your videos and pictures Mike! Very inspiring and with many important tips!
Thank you for this Mike, Having switched to Olympus from Canon last May - and somewhat inflenced by this channel - it is good to see that you still have some affinity for their equipment. It would be interesting to hear what you think about the new OM Systems WOW camera based on the presentations due to be given next Tuesday. As ever, content very interesting in every respect.
Great video of a superb (but expensive) lens Mike. Those Pochards really shine in the sunlight. Now the OM-1 has been announced with it's improved sensor, processor and AF system it will be interesting to see how it performs when tracking wildlife.
Yes really great work Mike I enjoy your Videos as they are always focused on the job in hand without a load of waffle. Very good of SWMBO to let you use her lens for the day too.
Great video and test on the lens Mike, way beyond my Budget but good to see it in action. I had the pleasure of doing the odd feed when i was a volunteer at the centre,Only 15 mile away ,last visit was with the Olympus Clare harvey may & David Tipling days shoot. Will put up with my 100-400 for the time being .Thank for sharing , Must try that slow mo some time .
Mike,, again a very interesting camera test. For those of us who live far away from the places you take pictures in, it might be quite interesting to know the date of your visits there. All the best!!!
Great work as always Mike. You have the key to photograph wildllife, and it isnt the best gear ( you also have this haha). You have knowledge, thanks for sharing.
Cracking video again Mike, nice to watch a review which tells you how it is warts an all , instead of the gushing over the top praise that most reviewers put out, as a Sony and Canon shooter I find that no one system is perfect and you still can’t beat the skill of the photographer who will take great shots no matter what
Thanks for this Mike could not have come at a better time as I am looking to swap from my canon gear to the new oly and the 150-400 lens. Any views you have on the lens and further tests would be more than welcome. Thanks.
Congrats on the lens Mike. I think the new Oly camera will be announced on 15th Feb. If it matches the R5 and A1 on Af then I will kick myself for just buying an R5 and 100-500.
@@MikeLaneFRPS Mike your wife will be a very lucky lady when the new camera comes out to go with her zoom lens, if you are lucky it will be many years before she realises she has such wonderful equipment :-)
@@MikeLaneFRPS as do I, looking forward to getting it - hopefully a lot quicker than the 150-400, look forward to your thoughts on it once you have given it a good go.
Using a 2x converter you are wayyy into diffraction territory. Stopping down will make things only worse. In fact, the lens is already marginally diffraction-limited with the 1.25x converter. When adding the 1.4x, you'd be at a max theoretical resolution of ~12-ish mp at f/8. With the 2x (f/11) it would be ~6-ish mp. That being said - one of the AI sharpening tools can help you with the recovering of details.
@@bestpix100 Well it's also a matter of 4k 120p vs HD 120p in videos. Cropping in 4k gives you the ability to zoom where ever needed. And 30fps with AF vs 20fps as far as we know yet.
Nice video Mike. Haven’t been to Welney for years and I certainly don’t remember it being that good, clearly I need to go again sometime. My wife’s waiting for her Z9 to arrive - Can’t wait! By the way, is it Saturday or am I loosing my marbles?😃
Lucky wife? You’re joking, of course. Your four interests in life don’t include family or wife, so my guess is you’re not even married. I’m reminded of the American chess master Frank Marshall who allegedly had three passions: His wife Caroline, chess and whiskey. In some order.

I could do with more music options. I reuse about 30 tracks I have available for free use.

"SWMBO"? Is that an English expression?
"Waffle" - now there's a useful term to describe quite a number of the nature photographers I see on UA-cam.

No still waiting to hear about the next Olympus camera to see if it catches up with the Sony on AF.
