I agree with Rich! This team deserves more fire power up front. They have been either 2nd or 3rd in the table most of the season -- lets make a serious play for that second auto promotion spot. Who knows what will happen next year if we stay in L1. Peterborough missed out on promotion last season, but are floundering in 19th this season. This might be Wrexham's best chance, over the next several seasons, to get to the Championship. Let's break the budget!!
The chairmen will definitely want to go for it as the competitive guys they are. You never know what the future holds and this feels too good an opportunity to pass up now
I brought Nathan Lowe in on loan from Stoke in my Wrexham FM24 save months ago before I knew anything about him and he was pivotal to getting me promoted into the championship. I realize he's not really on the table but the kid was a banger. It would be funny if it turned out I was secretly controlling Wrexham's Destiny through a video game. Great show as always, thanks for the good conversation!
Another great pod caste, thanks Rich and Nath. Some feedback i) Dalby should stay at Dundee United - they play to his strengths and he's doing so well, I just can not see this being played out at Wrexham and if he has a couple of stale games, the crowd will start to get on his back. I think Parky will be happy for Sam and want to do the right thing for him. ii) Palmer, why was Rich doubtful he would struggle in leagues 1 & 2? Palmer was the Wrexham record signing signing from Wimbledon and it was his signing which kick started our last two successful seasons. Palmer was very good at Wimbledon in league 1 and they suffered once he left them. I think Parky really trusts Palmer and he has done really well for us but think he is at his limit in league 1 so will not be such a success in the championship - too slow.
I agree with you both about promotion, and especially what Rich said about this maybe being our best chance of going up in the next few years, with the momentum we currently have and the carrot of the Championship and additionally the back-to-back-to-back. P.S. Love those stat omens!
I was watching an older BOA video from when they visited us, and I thought one of the goals looked familiar! Is the goal from your opening from the Wrexham v Dorking game? If not it is strikingly similar!
The problem with the Dalby/Dundee United situation, as you say, is that Sam already played 1 game for Wrexham, making him ineligible for another transfer. Meanwhile, Dundee United has no money. Dalby is clearly thriving there. So, if Wrexham doesn't bring him back and start him at the #9 (which I think they should do) would this alternative work? 1. Dalby signs an addendum to his contract, giving Wrexham an option for one more year with a reasonable release clause, say 300 000 quid. If exercised, it boosts Wrexham's income next year. 2. Wrexham agrees to leave Sam at Dundee United for the rest of the season. 3. Dundee United pays Sam's full wages for the rest of this season. 4. Dundee United takes on Jacob Mendy, and pays his wages for the rest of the season, they need cover at Left Back, Mendy needs to get on a team where he is at least on the matchday squad every week. 5. Dundee United takes on Mo Faal on a loan for the rest of the season as well, and pays part of his wages, Mo needs some game time. (I'm not sure if Faal is eligible for a loan). The net result, with Dalby's, Mendy's and Faal's wages paid, is saving Wrexham 200 to 300 thousand quid. Kind of like a transfer fee. Dundee United gets stronger for their run to the Europa, Mendy gets some game time, and Wrexham's player, Faal gets some run.
Thanks for leaving such a detailed comment! Of those 5 options you would think option 2 or 3 may become the most likely for all parties. It's interesting you say about Mendy. He's out of contract in the summer and won't be getting a new one at Wrexham but he strikes as a player that will be happy to play a bit-part role en route to hopefully another promotion. Faal desperately needs a run and he could well be a late loan move near the end of the window if we get 1/2 strikers in...
thank you gents for expanding the breadth of my football knowledge. TIL that Dalby can only play for Dundee U or Wrexham this season. I ignorantly thought that Wrexham could sell him anywhere this window and Sam was free to play. So a tip of the hat to youse two.
It would be great to see Sam score lots of goals back at Wrexham, but that is dreaming. Sam currently has a high market value. I suggest, sell him to Dundee United where he is happy and put those proceeds towards a higher ranked #9. I love the enthusiasm you two bring! Thanks from a 3 year newbie on Vancouver Island 🏝️
Thanks Paul! From a negotiating position it's tricky as it's probably not in Sam's interest to sign a new deal at Wrexham and Dundee United know he can't go and play for anyone else. A game of poker this month...
I'm not sure sam fits they system/role parky has for him. It would not be fair to Dalby to bring him back to play a bit part. Much like Marriott did at the start of the year, he hit his stride when starting and getting a run of games. Bringing him back for 15 minutes here or there is a waste. Perhaps best case scenario would be to sell him to Dundee United and have a sell on clause. In an interview with the efl account last year it sounded like Fletcher had started his badges so perhaps the coaching route is a possiblity. As well, do you send Faal on loan for minutes? If his role is to be the future target man, hes not getting in ahead of Palmer and Fletcher so he only had the car trophy or injury to get into the team, i know he doesn't count toward squad limits but for development i wonder if that would be useful for him
Agree 100% on Dalby and that's interesting on Fletcher, the pair of us must have missed about him starting his coaching badges. If you go and sign a striker or two this month I think you have to explore a loan move for Faal to get him minutes (even if we sponsored him this season!)
Couldn't Bodvarsson do the dirty work, Ollie Palmer style? He's been subbed in for Mullin mainly, and that isn't what he is. I know he's not as big as Ollie, but he plays physical, has pace and technique.
When does Wrexham start expanding their recruiting efforts to US or other European leagues and not just recruit UK players/players who already live in UK?
I agree with you. For example, there's Damion Downs at FC Koln, a dynamic 20 year old center forward who was on the USMNT pre-Olympic team, and has 7 goals in 16 matches this season in Bundesliga 2.
It's a really interesting one. Depending on the age profile of the player it can sometimes be tricky to secure the necessary work permit but once you reach the Championship most clubs find themselves targeting players outside of the UK and Ireland
@ do clubs pay a premium for players who are “proven” in EFL or another way of asking that is could we potentially find better value in other leagues for similar talent?
Id happily take back dalby and put him in Palmer's place having Palmer benched (no offence to him). Then buy a top striker from championship league or a decent young premier league striker to take Mullins spot. Then either keep Palmer as a back up incase of injuries or sell him.
Nathan, Man U needs revenue for FFP reasons. Are there any academy players there that would make sense for Wrexham to purchase as good long term fits? Seems like 5 million quid for 3 or 4 great prospects would be a good investment. Not that they would help this season, but as the team goes up. Or is that too much of a long term play?
From a talent evaluation side of things, it's so tricky to work out who would be worth investing in now. There are a lot of talented academy players across the country that won't see first team football at their Premier League clubs. James Scanlon is one example - Gibraltar international and in MU academy - that would be a really smart move but given the win-now mode we are in right now, targeting raids on academies for players may be a year or two away from the right move. Worth keeping in mind though looking towards the summer when you have more scope in the transfer window
Think this fan base really mistreated dalby, people forget he was a massive part of winning the national league and actually displaced palmer for a while. He’s then thrown into L2 which he’s never played in and then instantly deemed not good enough and effectively thrown out of choice. I think he’s proving his worth in Scotland, admittedly it won’t have the quality of L1 but I’d take a chance on recalling him if it came to it.
If Stockport had Louis Barry we can make the larger splash.. Rashford on loan!! He wants out of Man U, they want him gone and if they cant get a sale a loan will do the job for now and sell him in summer. His wage 300k a week i assume wrexham would have to pay 100k-150k a week or so.. 14week loan =1.4- 2million will be worth it to get up...with the new investor we have peanuts to spend to keep the journey going...miniscule compared to Stansfield cost... 1 call from Ryan Reynolds to Rashford direct will do it.. Rashford will be motivated to show how good he still is, the publicity alone Rashford would get on the documentary alone is worth it for him to "repair/change his personality and view to fans now" Come on Nathan spread the rumour and get it done, let's flex some muscle :)
@@bryanburton649 I know, I've seen your comments elsewhere. You and I just disagree (if Dalby does come back, I hope he gets the starts he needs to be successful). The good news is, we will find out soon what the decision is, and hopefully, it is the best decision for Wrexham and Dalby. Up the Town! ☺
Ollie Palmer ... grinding down the defense is really getting old. Anyone who is in his position and willing to work hard will grind down the defense. He is not bulldozing through players. No defense looks scare of his physical attributes. Defenses looked like they were being grinded down more chasing Marriott / Mullin around.
Interesting... would definitely argue there have been games at the start of the campaign where he was bulldozing but it's waned for sure. Will be interesting to see if they can finally get Michael Smith this month given how desperate PP has been for him
There's no need to apologise for not knowing what you're talking about. To be honest you'd be spending half of every podcast doing it if you go down that route 😂
Rich, there is already a behind-the-scenes training video on the Wrexham UA-cam channel showing James McClean as the winner of the team endurance sprints.

Guys, fantastic show!!!
really hope they to dive into fletcher story a bit more in the upcoming season
Fingers crossed! He's been such a key narrative on the pitch so makes sense to dive in off it

Love Steven Fletcher!
When I close my eyes I heard Shrek
Have you heard the mumblings regarding Joe Gelhardt? Thiughts? Thanks for your posts . . I enjoy them as well as learn from them
Lots of Championship interest in him. Hull City believe they are frontrunners but would love him for us...

I really hope Parky lets Dalby stay at Dundee United. He wasn't happy at Wrexham; let him stay where he is wanted and can make things happen.
I really hope he brings him back.
