Very good editing. No blah blah blah, right to the point. How many times I've seen 30min how to videos that could've been explained in a third of the time.
Great job. Looks like a lot of fun. There's some magical line between where you live and where I live. Most of us south of that line have no idea how to ice skate. Most of you north of that line are great at it!
Hi again. I am so proud of you to construct that ZAMBONI. I recall my Dad made rinks in northern Quebec for us kids to use that was over 60 years ago... Yup you guessed it he was at the time a fire fighter..... used 2 large sprays from a pumper truck, then the home made zamboni....... Your right it was -20 most days between Nov 15th to end of march..... It was great. Hockey skating kids and grown ups too. Keep up your good work with your gang. Its worth every moment.
This is a rabbit hole you may never get out of. I am on many versions of pond hockey zamboni. latest version uses a carry all and pallet as a platform. Load a 50 gallon water tank, sureflow pump to pump water into an on demand camper style hot water heater. A tank of propane and 12v power runs it from my 1025r. Spreads out the back with pvc plumbing and towel. Instant hot water and nice finish. Now i am working on shaving the ice. Need something on the bucket??? That’s this weekends project.
Good job on the DIY zamboni. The multiple layers of thin ice is a good approach to keep things simple. Now all you need is some paint for the ice hockey lines and face off circles and you can start hosting the neighbourhood hockey league.
Pretty slick! Looks like it'll work fine. As a kid we used to help the school works clean the ice with metal snow pusher shovels. Then flood the rink after closing time so it could freeze through the night.
I love it Adam. My son showed yesterday from the Netherlands from the creek behind his house. That they are making it smooth so the can skate there. I will send this to him. He is 42. We live in Canada.
Great idea!! The only thing you need now, is a PA system, with someone talking about ticket prices for upcoming games and a couple of Bud Light stickers on your DIY Zamboni😃
Hi Leslie, thank you very much. I have to admit this was not my idea. I’ve seen others make something similar but it is fun to make your own and have it actually work
Adam cool diy idea. One thing I would do to make it better would be to add a good quality metal ball valve. That way u can control the flow better but all in all great idea. Keep up the good videos
To get a great smooth finish on your ice you need hot water so that it melts the rough spots and skate cuts back into the old ice and creating new ice together. put a tank on your sxs and fill with hot water then hook up your manual zamboni drag. New subscriber and i enjoy your channel
Great job! My uncle made something similar to that 40+ years ago out of copper pipe and a burlap sack. It worked great then and they still work great today. Too bad you don't have access to hot water. That would smooth it out in a hurry. Anyone doing this for a backyard rink that can run hot water from the house you'll get better results quicker.
If you're using a heat gun to bend the pipe, shoot the hot air through the pipe. When the whole pipe is hot, it's extremely easy to bend and manipulate how you want. I do that often with the grey electrical plastic conduit.
I had a similar idea for my water pump. I didnt want to run a submersible pump to my pond, but I plan on (Next year) running a Milwaukee 18v battery pump to move water. we have 10" ice on our pond and this Zamboni would have worked well before the last few melts, and my failed attempt to clear 6" of snow off it. Also, Great idea on the ice picks!!
ADAM, ... my first thought was....Are you driving your side by side on that ice?!!! ...Hooda thunk you can make pond ice like glass! Great idea with that lightweight Zamboni ! Skate on!
I made my 'rink rake' as a T rather than having to bend the pipe. Works well and the caps on the end of the T keep it off the ice nicely. You want to go next level, be like my neighbor and flood it with warm water. Wasteful but the best ice you'll ever skate on outside.
If you are anything like me, who has caught the devil for using my wife’s good towels to dry my beloved pickup truck after some mud runs, it looks like you might catch it for takin’ that nice blue towel from the house! LOL! Nice rink and a cool way to level it. Enjoy!
Alana: "Hey Honey, have you seen the second blue towel from our guest bathroom?? I can't find it anywhere!!!" Adam: "Umm, No Dear. I don't know where it could be!"
I haven’t examined it yet to see if it was damaged or not. I’ve heard that snow and ice can dull your chain but I can neither confirm nor deny... yet haha
Aw man, you made that way simpler than I imagined at the opening. I envisioned a big steel bar behind the side by side, with boiling water coming out of a steel plate. 😂
So wait, this year I just started doing maintenance on a pond and I just used a trash 2inch pump and flooded the shit out of and it’s worked pretty nice, my question now is does the Zamboni work better than what I got going now?
Friends and I cut a hole in a small pond and spread water with buckets when I was young. After we removed a good bit of water, the ice started cracking and collapsing.
I've wondered what would happen if there was a pump with a 1" hose. Seems like that would melt the snow and find its average level making a smooth surface. Would your pump support that experiment?
Adam what a great fun project! I was wondering if you could fill an IBC tote tank with water and use that instead of a pump. Could you put the tank on your side by side and just drive around with it?
Only problem with that is the weight. I mean right now we have 7” of solid ice right now but that would make me a little nervous. And early on in the skating season you’ve only got 4-5” of ice
@@HometownAcres I was thinking the same thing but was wondering how deep your pond is. I have seen ice fisherman out on lakes with full size vehicles. I am sure there are calculations as to weight and ice thickness. I am only suggesting but you could fill your tote one quarter and start with that but it would probably make me nervous too lol.
Cool idea, looks to be doing what u want it to do. But man, that ice isnt very thick and the water under the ice does hold the ice up, I think you might be better off with an external source of water. Just worried making a hollow under the thin ice could make for an unsafe condition, wouldnt wanna see any friends or loved ones in a life and death situation. Best wishes.
If I understand what you meant DMW Greywolf, pumping water from under the ice does not create a hollow area. The ice floats on the surface of the pond. It the water level were to drop or rise the ice would float up or down. This can sometimes cause cracking along the shoreline as a result of the movement. Another huge factor in building thick ice is removing any insulating layer of snow. When cold air comes in contact with bare ice it will thicken up much faster than when the ice is covered with snow. Thanks for the video Adam!

I love it when folks take this kinda fun this seriously! Great work!
Worked like a Charm Adam, you sir are a genious.

Do you think 50F would be sufficient? if so I can use my propane tankless with 1.2GPM pump and not have to fill a 30gal tank

Awesome! The spikes are a wonderful invention!
Man what a cool video to watch after doing school work all day.
That was a really cool contraption you built!! Good thinking Adam!! Have fun and stay safe!!
Great idea!! The only thing you need now, is a PA system, with someone talking about ticket prices for upcoming games and a couple of Bud Light stickers on your DIY Zamboni😃
Ingenioius, hilarious. Love it!!
Store PVC pipe glue inverted, with a tight cap. Does not evaporate or go bad, improves shelf life after opening. Certainly enjoy the videos!
Hello Adam, you are like a bottomless well full of ideas !awsome, nice, short and sweet video
Hi Leslie, thank you very much. I have to admit this was not my idea. I’ve seen others make something similar but it is fun to make your own and have it actually work
awesome idea...I love the bath towel accessory!
Worked pretty good.
Awesome. Frank Zamboni would be proud of you.
Thats a cool project. It will be fun when you get it done.
Adam cool diy idea. One thing I would do to make it better would be to add a good quality metal ball valve. That way u can control the flow better but all in all great idea. Keep up the good videos
Yeah I agree. I kept having to turn the flow on and off by unplugging the pump from the generator. Definitely need a shut off on the zamboni
That is pretty slick! lol. Awesome pond rink.
Nice job ... it looks fantastic, have fun

Seen one guy bought a cheap electric heater from amazon and heated up a fifty gallon tank in minutes not hours. Seemed to work great.
That rink is like the field of dreams of hockey. Let us know if Bobby Hull and Phil Esposito show up one night.

So cool . 😎 Enjoy your efforts and have fun.
Great idea, Adam, great video. You neglected to mention the bath towel water diffuser😂.

Wow thats a great idea...
Great idea and what fun!
Great project!
Very cool project 👍
Nice work Adam, way to think about the youth hockey kids !
Nice work Adam!
A lot of guys here just hose the water onto the ice.
But the curtain idea is cool.

Man IMO I think this is one of your better videos! Keep us posted on the status! 🍻
Looks good Adam.👏🏻👏🏻👍👍
Great job. A little jealous.
I like your new video today this was really cool video it will look nice when you get all down good jop today buddy
nice. you are lucky to have a pond.
He worked hard and paid for that pond!
ADAM, ... my first thought was....Are you driving your side by side on that ice?!!! ...Hooda thunk you can make pond ice like glass! Great idea with that lightweight Zamboni ! Skate on!
Really cool stuff!
hi there pretty neat brings back kid memories . gen set is there time for flood lights and night time hockey. and a pond side fire ring john

Is winter required or that’s optional?
How does the chain hold up to the ice?
I haven’t examined it yet to see if it was damaged or not. I’ve heard that snow and ice can dull your chain but I can neither confirm nor deny... yet haha
I made a 1 1/2 pvc T with shutoff valve at handle of T with a rag / towel along t
Was there a special hose you used. Mine freezes up and stops flowing
Aw man, you made that way simpler than I imagined at the opening. I envisioned a big steel bar behind the side by side, with boiling water coming out of a steel plate. 😂
thanks, i think i’m going to do the same to the lake just outside my backyard
neat video!!!
Very creative. Did your wife miss the towel? Or did you quietly put it in the wash
So wait, this year I just started doing maintenance on a pond and I just used a trash 2inch pump and flooded the shit out of and it’s worked pretty nice, my question now is does the Zamboni work better than what I got going now?

I wonder what the dimension of each cpvc part is. You said you bought 2 10-ft lengths, right?
I've wondered what would happen if there was a pump with a 1" hose. Seems like that would melt the snow and find its average level making a smooth surface. Would your pump support that experiment?
Don’t leave that outside and make sure the water is completely out of the zamboni. That goes for the hose too lol
Very interesting 😎
Adam what a great fun project! I was wondering if you could fill an IBC tote tank with water and use that instead of a pump. Could you put the tank on your side by side and just drive around with it?
Only problem with that is the weight. I mean right now we have 7” of solid ice right now but that would make me a little nervous. And early on in the skating season you’ve only got 4-5” of ice

I keep waiting for Red Green to show up in one of these ice rink videos and wreck the whole scene, haha.
could use pex for the parts that need to be bent
A Zamboni is a machine that grinds the ice surface; it doesn't just squirt water on the ice.
I'm sure ice skating could be fun but I'd move farther south lol
Any reason you wouldn’t make your Zamboni 2x or 3x as wide? Obviously there would be a limit.. curious on what your take is now that you’ve built it.
How thick is the ice???
Cool idea.
About 7-8” thick right now
I thought you were going to tow that behind the Ranger LOL
Aluplex pipe would be good material to do it.
Up Next, another chainsaw sharpening video!
Haha yeah I don’t think ice is good for them but you gotta do what you gotta do
That's cool.
Human ingenuity overcomes again. Hope you got a patent for your idea. lol
❤️👍 Serbia
You are going to have to look up DIY Pete and his zamboni.
Pretty slick! (see what I did there?)
Alright Adam. Never put that saw away.
If you cut the hole in an area that you won't skate you would lose no skate able area. Maybe cut the hole where the snow is piled.
Get video ones again you can fill the pipe with hot water and bend it how you want to just saying to give you a hand take care cheers

Adam u should always have someone with u in case u fall through u never no don't no how deep it is just saying
No worries.... I was there and helped him out...it’s what Moms’s do! 😊
You guys Rock ! . Great job . Have fun . ⛸️ ⛸️.
