After flooding our pond for years, the absolute best and fastest way i have found to flooding the rink is to use my ice auger! Wear your rubber boots....drill your hole thru the ice. Clean all the ice and slush and toss off to the side. Drop the auger back down the hole and turn on the auger. It will bring hundreds of gallons of water up in seconds and in a minute or two it will reach out to the entire area. Access water runs back down the hole! Try it! Works amazing

I have a bunch of private trails around my house that I keep groomed in the winter for walking and snowmobiling. For me, keeping the trails brushed and groomed is like you working for the perfect ice surface. Just something about all the work is so satisfying, and then to get to use it with the family makes it all worth it. My girls are 3.5 and 1 and we try to get out on the trails every chance we get. Pond looks great

Great job. As a father of four grown girls I can tell you for a fact that what you are doing is incredibly valuable!!!! My girls grew up on ten acres, playing in the woods, skating on the creek, falling out of trees (in a safe way, just off the ground) building all kinds of crazy contraptions by themselves, sledding... They learned sooooo much about cause and effect by making failing in small ways. I would watch them from far off doing something and seeing the progression of thought until they achieved what they were after. PRICELESS Not to mention all the exercise!!!!! From a dad that is super happy with all the effort he put in like you are doing.

my old township's rink used to allow young kids to use an over-turned 5 gallon bucket to rest their chest on, which enables kids to just focus on getting used to the footing. I bet you have a bunch of buckets that might do the trick.

That is just so awesome Adam. Even your little one knows there's something different about playing on ice! If you happen to be a Penguin's fan, check out a new goalie (Sergei Murashov) that just moved up from the ECHL to the AHL. My granddaughter who is a MED student in Cincinnati happened to be seated with Sergei on an eight hour flight from Europe to the U.S. this past November. There may be a romance in the making...a sweet story anyway!

Thanks for the memories. Grew up on a lake in north Wisconsin, the ice rink was something we looked forward to every year. Figure skating and hockey were almost as much fun as swimming. You're right about memories- I'm 77 now and remember back fondly.
Hint- try clearing the ice from the center out. For light snow try skating in circles. It will work great with that plow you had .
Have fun and thanks for the memories.

We have a much smaller backyard rink (18x14 but it takes up most of our yard lol)
And man, I agree. Maintaining the ice is soooo satisfying lol. It’s a lot of work, like when we got 3’ of snow in 24 hrs a few weeks ago, but it’s sooo worth it to see the kids enjoy it
    Keep up the good work!

Preach Adam! You're doing it right. Don't ever let anyone tell you what's a waste of time. It's your time not their time. I think walking around a golf course for 4 hours and then sitting in the club house for another 2 is a waste of time. I'd much rather be doing what you're doing maybe with a few improvements to make things more efficient. 😁 Dave

Another great video Adam and agree it’s lot of work but thoroughly worthwhile. I can also see why you enjoy the work especially with the end result, your kids will have wonderful memories. My two kids are grown up now with their own families and although we didn’t have our own ice rink or hill to sled on 😁 we made sure they had loads of great memories. We don’t get snow like you but whenever it was cold enough we’d go looking for snow, finding fantastic places all to ourselves to sledge and play in the snow. We would take sandwiches, hot drinks and make a really memorable days. You’re also right about letting them learn by failing safely, our kids had that kind of upbringing and we are very proud of the way they’ve turned out and they’re carrying on similar traditions with there own little ones. Keep up the good work 🙂👍

This reminds me of growing up in northeast Ohio. You are right about the core memories. We would leave southeast Louisianna almost every Christmas, when our kids were young, and go see the families in Ohio. My kids still talk about the fun they had playing in the snow. They are both in their 40's now. BTW. We got about 8 inches of snow here Tuesday. It shut down everything until today, Saturday. I know how to drive in the snow and I didn't go out. Roads were all iced over. No plows, no salt and no common sense. lol. You're doing a great job Dad.

Iv also heard it's healthy to make kids figure it out. Like when a toy breaks and they tell you it's broken, if you say it's now garbage they will fight you on that and try to tell you how it can be fixed instead of you always just fixing it for them.
