One of my favorite tap dances ever! It's so hard-hitting and fierce! Unapologetically wild. She swings her legs so far forward and back on her brushes! Plenty of shim-shammin' goin' on too. If my adult class all tapped like this, my teacher would be SO HAPPY! I'd never seen this 2-generation tribute. So great. Thanks for posting!
Wonderful, I love the film and this musical number and adore Ruby Keeler; her granddaughter paid her a fantastic tribute. Ruby was sweet and likable, and her chemistry with Dick Powell was undeniable.
Ruby was great in this number, no question. But what Busby Berkley put together what many people is incredible. Her granddaughter could pay her no greater tribute.
I saw this at the STAGE benefit and am thrilled to find it here. Thank you! The moment was absolutely electric in person, and the benefit took off from there. Those kids shook the seats.
I just recently discovered Ruby (although I have most likely see her in "classical" movies ?) She is "so" cute and what a great "singer/dancer". No wonder Al Jolson fell for her !!! I play her "42 Street" routine over & over. Sarah, good for you. You have her "moves" and nice voice. Thank you for this. Gary D.C.
I totally agree with Paul5678, Ruby is looking down from heaven with love and pride, Sarah. Your grandmother's an angel, a wonderful, beautiful being who had pure love in her heart towards everyone, and her family. Ruby was a magnificent buck n wing tap dancer, a great actress, and to me, a sweet voice too. I love her in 42nd street (especially title number), Footlight parade, Go into your dance, Flirtation walk, Coleen, and Dames (my favorite is Ruby in I only have eyes for you). I love Ruby Keeler, she's one of the most wonderful souls ever. Other fabulous golden agers are Ginger Rogers, Judy Garland, and Esther Williams. And Sarah, your dancing matched up with your wonderful grandmother's so well I own many 1930s and 1940s films on DVD, and learned to play many songs from that era on piano, including 42nd street, By a waterfall, and I only have eyes for you
I absolutely love this touching tribute! 🥰 I especially love how well they compliment each other in this performance and how original this idea is. Also love that she's able to pay tribute with the same talents!
@hamishray I would have to agree.. I have studied tap for over 24 yrs and have won solo competitions for it in both Showstopper and National Dance Championships. Although the movements may seem simplistic, its getting the correct sounds out that makes it a good tap number. And for the shmuck below here saying Ruby couldn't tap---are you educated in dance or the history of it? Have you seen other female tap dancers of her time? There weren't many of them and she held her own amongst them.
I ran into Ruby Keeler at the LA County fair of all places back in the late 1980s. She was in a wheelchair, lovely and very gracious. She wondered how a kid my age (at the time) even knew who she was!
Sarah, your performance was such a likeness of your wonderful grandmother Ruby Keeler, especially your dancing. This video is amazing. I own and have seen and loved all of your grandmother's films
You'll be happy to know that a Busby Berkeley biography will be coming out in a while--I just finished reading (and reviewing) the manuscript for the University of Kentucky Press. Some good Ruby stuff in there, too! I'm glad this young lady admires her Grand Mother's career. I often wonder about other kids, like Drew Barrymore...does she REALLY understand her family's contribution to stage and film?
In the early 90s I had the great honour of lunching with Ruby Keeler and Liberace's close friend Vince Fronza with whom I was staying in Liberace's Palm Springs Villa. She was so elegant and had the most beautiful eyes.
@298625 Can you tap dance? If you can't then you have no right to judge, this is a fabulous tribute to Ms Keeler from her granddaughter. Tap dancing isn't easy and it requires lots of practice.
"They're side by side / They're glorified..." Sarah, I'm happy to say, is a better singer than her grandmother. You can find interviews with Ruby when she admits she couldn't sing very well - not that anybody in the 1930s was bothered by that.
She's pretty skilled! Although, we all have to admit, none could beat THE classy Ruby Keeler singing and dancing 42nd Street! (Well if we have to make a contest with Ginger Rogers or Eleanor Powell, we know who goes last.) 😍😳
Ruby Keeler invented cute! I have to give it up for the agents who knew what they were doing. I love the 20's and 30's so much. Who cared how refined a dancer was?! Here you had Ruby- a perfect mix of light hearted personality and heavy footed tap dancing. That's the point. Sort of like Ginger was a graceful dancer and her personality in those movies was less cute and more...I don't know, what you call her personality? It was about the opposite of Ruby. Is Ruby why Stanwyck changed her name?
Sarah - we see in the video that the spin is not easy to time with the unseen dancer behind you. Perhaps you could step to the side and raise your arms to highlight Ruby's spin, then do a quick one, back to center. Loved your video! Thanks!
There IS footage of Ruby Keeler doing that same number with the screen footage in her older years at the Oscars, but the footage is hard to find. The girl is good.....but not as great as Ruby!
well done girl like to see the younger generation dancing with talent
Sarah dear, your grandmother is looking down from heaven and beaming with pride. Positively outstanding!
Love this!! So cute and touching! Loved Ruby! Talent runs in the family!! Good for you, Sarah!!!

Wow, Ruby would be so proud of her granddaughter. Dare I say Sarah has the superior voice?? Incredible performance and tribute.
Loved your grandmother 💕
Ruby was great in this number, no question. But what Busby Berkley put together what many people is incredible. Her granddaughter could pay her no greater tribute.
This was brilliant, well done. And you're a much better singer than your Grandmother ! Love it.
I saw this at the STAGE benefit and am thrilled to find it here. Thank you! The moment was absolutely electric in person, and the benefit took off from there. Those kids shook the seats.
She looks a lot like her grandmother! Great talent! Electric performance! Fantastic tap dancing! This scene is my favorite of 42nd street!

The legacy lives on 👏👏👏👏👏 hoora hoora, encore 👏👏👏👏👏
Ms. Keeler would have been proud of her granddaughter. Good performance here!
That's really sweet.
This is really the coolest thing!
Great tribute to your grand mother
Wow, Sarah is as wonderful as her grandmother!

I keep getting Ruby Keeler videos in my feed and I don't even know who she is, or was. So I'm about to watch this out of curiosity.
Fabulous!
What a treat!
Sweet! What a lovely little surprise! Hoof on darlin'! Singing' too! Loved this!
Love this, shared it on my Ziegfeld Girls Tribute on Facebook.
Wonderful.
Absolutely wonderful!

Nothing like a dancer with a bit of oomph.... Such a cute video :)
Thank you.
Bravissima la abuela y la nieta!!! Excelente homenaje.

Wow! Who knew! A chip off the ol' block!

I get perform this song for the talent show!
Shame it was recorded with a potato! A video where the details would have been nice to see 🥰

Super Cute must be genetic!
Can you please make a good tap video where I can see and hear the crisp clean clarity sounds of your taps
Sarah - we see in the video that the spin is not easy to time with the unseen dancer behind you. Perhaps you could step to the side and raise your arms to highlight Ruby's spin, then do a quick one, back to center.
Loved your video! Thanks!
dear Sarah, it is definitely on your dna!!!
how old is the granddaughter now?
How do we know if its really her granddaughter?
That's kinda surreal
There IS footage of Ruby Keeler doing that same number with the screen footage in her older years at the Oscars, but the footage is hard to find. The girl is good.....but not as great as Ruby!
deana diedrich hasn't got Ruby's long legs, Ruby wore old style heavy tap shoes as well!
That girl is Sarah Lowe....Ruby Keeler's GRANDDAUGHTER!!
I remember seeing that Oscars performance and I was blown away, but I haven't been able to find the footage. Any suggestions?
It's charming that she learned her grandmas' dance.
it's still cool what she tried to do, it being a benefit, maybe she didn't have enough time to practice.
Wow. Your better than Ruby!
Not as fluid as, Gran but great!
