- in todays video i document the hatching period of bought eggs i put into my incubator, i put in 24 eggs, on the 2nd week i candled them to show ye the development inside the eggs, the hatching period took 4 days which I've never seen before and 18 out 24 hatched so it was a very good hatching rate for this late in the year.

We would always sprinkle some feed around the pen to take advantage of there pecking instinct,you deserve all the success in the world congratulations.
Liv asked about the mother hen and the moisture - I believe in the wild when the hen gets off the eggs to eat she picks up moisture on her feathers, this dampens eggs.

You should have a clocker in one for your hens Phil , put 10 to 12 eggs under a clocking hen next spring i done it a few times, its nice to see them grow up, you should try ducklings Phil they take 4 weeks to hatch

Great stuff, Phil! Congratulations on your happy event: it's a bo- It's a gir- Um, it's a load of baby chickens! I've got 6 rescue hens. They were in a sad state when I took them on - ex-factory birds, scared and skinny and almost bald - but after a year they're plump and glossy and bright-eyed and scratching my tiny garden to bits.
I don't mind, though - they're pleasant company and lay up to 30 eggs a week, depending on how they're feeling. (Thank you, ladies.) Any eggs I don't eat I give away to my neighbours.
I don't want any chicks, just eggs, so I didn't get a cockerel. (I'm not a vegan or a vegetarian, I'm just too poor to buy real meat these days, and if I can't get proper stuff I don't want to eat mechanically-recovered pink 'goo' or unrecognisable junk. It's either the real thing or nothing. At today's prices, it's nothing!)
I try to grow my own fruit and veg, and the free eggs are a real treat.
I can definitely recommend keeping hens if anybody has the room. They're quiet and friendly and because they lay infertile eggs, nothing dies (which is pretty unusual in the world of food and farming).
Good luck with the Channel, Phil. Maybe it'd grow even quicker if you put it in that incubator... ;-)

Brinsea incubators are common enough. MacEoin limited are the main dealers for Ireland but you might be able to get a second hand one on eBay. Just check that the turning cradle is included or you'll have to manual turn them.

I had some out on grass, I had some in the henhouse with a run. I had pods, I had pens, I had coops in fields, I had them everywhere

Roosters will try to sell them and if I can’t get them they become free range😂 and no you can’t buy sexed eggs
