I read one of his books when I was 17 y old. But I forgot the name....Through Friends in Canada I found others books two years ago. Hé was Really one of the first Ecologists. No matter if he was English, but he Learn the Objiway language. He lived with 5 women in his life. Had problems with alcohol. Despite he was a hunter, he loved Animals. His memory is in my heart. Btw he was born in 1888, and my beloved grand grand mother born in 1889. In Paris she saw circa 1910 the Bill Cody (buffalo bill ) show. Thanks for this movie. Didier from France
Me too friend...I've read all his books...highly recommended, "Sajo and her Beaver People" matched sales of "Black Beauty"... compelling and an easy read... written very well...
auntiewaffle, you are dead right! During the 1950's, our headmaster read us the story, "Sajo and Her Beaver People." As a classroom of 10year olds, we were mesmerised. Our teacher than went on to tell us the story of Grey Owl. As a 66year old, it brings tears to me to see this bit of film!
The father of modern-day ecology. Yes Native Americans may frown upon him and Canada (bunch of Snowflakes!), may erase the history of him, but he was a great person. A true ecologist, hunter, trapper, writer, speaker. He always respected the way-of-life of Native Americans in his own era. The world needs more (especially Canada), like him.
Thank you for these pictures and may each live in peace and in total harmony with the great universal brotherhood, Mitakuye Oyasin. May all beings in all worlds be happy and in peace. Om Lokha Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu.
Hi Kathleen.. I dig Grey Owl too... don't stop here... read any of the many books he penned. Especially recommended is, "The Men of the Last Frontier", and "The Tree."
Little Brother so nice what a special situation. Hard to believe he got away with it. Usually there are others that take, take, take. I live in the Adirondack Mountains. The Beaver is the NY State Mammel. I love beavers. They are one of my Totems animals, but all are my brothers.
A few days ago, I went to library at my school. I found the book about Grey Owl. It have about 26 pages I think and was published on 2003. I borrow the book. And I though his real name was Archie. But grey owl is seriously doesn't like an Indian because his face is more alike an english man. He married more than 2 times. His life was interesting bcause it have a lot of mysterious. I hope i can find the book that written by him. -SZL, MALAYSIA
You call our national animal cute? One error in the film is to say that Canada owes its identity to the beaver. In fact, the first Europeans to come to North America in large numbers came here in search of cod, right?
Him and his wife Anahaero were given jobs as conservationists in Prince Albert National Park in Saskatchewan at this time. The footage in this film was shot at around his home on Waskesiu Lake.
at first I thought it 's about the bird of prey, but later I realized it's about the native american Grey Owl. There was a movie starring Pierce Brosnan. maybe it's about this native American...I will review that film..am sure it is about Grey Owl as Brosnan portrayed a native american who was a writer among other things so the Brosnan movie is indeed about Grey Owl's life
He claimed to be half-white. His pretense only actually lasted for a few years. Initially he was a writer and all people had was a few publicity photos which use lighting and makeup to have him look more Indian. People were suspicious and he was exposed just days after his death, when Canadian libel law no longer applied.
What would libel laws have to do with revealing who Grey Owl really was? I'd imagine his record of birth and memories of him by other people were what exposed his true identity. Even people who thought they knew him well were shocked by the revelation. Maybe, he was a Metis reincarnated as an Englishman.
