It's not just call backs. The entire song uses the same lines and rhyme schemes as daylight. If you listen to them together, you'll notice they're mirror opposites, honestly these two songs together are a hip hop masterpiece to me. He's the hip hop DaVinci

Interesting do you mean play both at the same time? Thats wild but Aes is another breed so im not surprised to hear that

@Therealnoshoes just back to back. For example in daylight I did not invent the wheel just the crooked spoke adjacent, nightlight I did invent the wheel in a previous generation, daylight its honor and I spell it with the h I stole from heritage, nightlight it's the gutter and I spell it with the g I stole from get the fuck up, daylight life's not a bitch life is a beautiful woman, nightlight life's not a bitch life is a biotch. If you look at the lyrics side by side, they juxtapose each other seamlessly. I've never seen anybody do anything like it, let alone as masterfully as he does

Great stuff. I love how the tracks mirror each other and both just give a different feel.
Also when you mentioned that this was more guitar heavy, someone actually did a cover of Nightlight with electric guitar and it sounds awesome lol

As some of the other comments mentioned, it's not just call backs but like parallel bars. You can't play them at the same time but it's almost like a yin and yang take on the same lyrics. Daylight is philosophizing but with an air of optimism. Night light takes the same exact bars and edits them with a razor's edge of cynicism. Almost as if Aes came back to his lyrics in Daylight and is taking a red marker to it.
If you're taking recommendations, you should check out Akala - Fire In The Booth (part 1). Different vibe but one of the UK's best and full of bars to dissect.

great reactions to both. my fave diff/similar lines from Daylight/Nightlight is a gr8 example of the diff attitudes of each track... Day-'i lay my kicks to rest when i'm impressed so i triple knot em & forgot em', Night-'i lay my kicks to rest when i'm impressed, so i staple gun em to my feet'... same thing but one done soooo angry, scarring. GENIUS

Aesop Rock loves performing Nightlight but hates play Daylight. You’re lucky to ever hear Daylight live. However I prefer this song.

He played them together quite a bit on the Impossible Kid tour. If he only did one, it was always Night Light, but more often, he played both.
