  • TOKYO, 10 October 1988. A classic dual between the two legends of hammer throwing, 12 days after Seoul olympics where world champion Sergey Litvinov won with 84.80, from world record Yuriy Sedykh 83.76. In Tokyo, the order was the same, but the pouring rain prevented the Soviets to throw further than 81.74 and 80.70, respectively. Conditions were so bad at the National Stadium that the pole vault where Sergey Bubka was to compete, had to be cancelled.

Love this because when I practice when it is 38 degrees or colder I think of these guys throwing for competition in full warmup to stay warm!! You never know what a competition day will be cold or warm, rainy or sunny. Got to practice no matter what for these times!!!
