Addiction??Probably not, because people with real gambling addiction usually end up in poverty no matter how much fortune they have.

He didnt have a gambling problem or an addiction. That's a slap in the face to peolle who are battling real addiction. I watch tv when I get home from work, almost every night. That doesnt mean I'm addicted to television. He was doing nothing wrong, it was a media created controversy.

For all the people calling this "a slap in the face to real addiction," it's important to remember that addiction is a spectrum. There are plenty of functioning people with alcohol or gambling or cocaine or food addictions that don't destroy their bodies/lives/relationships that completely. You can be addicted to something and still function pretty well, especially if you have other meaningful pursuits that feed you. Jordan was fortunate to be mega-talented at something he loved, if dude had been a mediocre or bad player (or pursued the wrong career) what is a functional addiction could have been much worse.

Compare to ither addictions, Cocaine addiction is completely destructive no matter how you put it. That's why Jordan refuse to join the Chicago Bulls Cocaine Circus as a rookie.

His addiction was winning. It’s his money, he can do whatever he wants with it. It’s not like he was bankrupt from it. He was the most competitive athlete to ever live and a super winner. Most people can’t wrap their heads around that

In addition to celebrating the birth of his first grandson, Rakeem Michael Christmas, Jordan has now donated some $30 million over the last five years to activist projects, including $5 million to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, at least $3 million to hurricane relief

I forgot what interview it is and who was getting interviewed, the guy said MJ donated his whole salary to 9-11 victims, directly, and doesn't want to leak it to the public esp the media as well as another philanthropic activity he did where he gave donations to 23 other foundations. Well, they still leaked of course.
The Make-a-Wish foundation spoke highly of MJ being a partner for more than 30 years. Imagine being the biggest man in sports going to houses of children despite his busy schedule and refusing to get the publicity.
There was even an instance where he brought a kid, a burn victim, to the bench. The security people said it's against the rules. MJ pushed through and you would see him approach the kid from time to time, talk to him, high 5s, giving him Gatorade...

50k to MJ is like $5 to many people. If you bet $5 every week I don’t think it amounts to a gambling problem, but because it’s 50k those who don’t have that amount to throw around may view Jordan’s behavior comes from addition.
