We use cardboard as a weed deferent without any problems to our no dig garden. There are zero issues with our plants and harvest...unless you enjoy weeding, I strongly suggest with the next round of planting, that you try using cardboard ! Good luck on your gardening endeavors !

At least you added soil.. been following Charles and for whatever reason thought I could just use compost as this video I watched stated it.. put cardboard down.. bought mushroom compost and filled areas. Threw in some earthworms to help aerate etc.. found most of them if not all dying due to probably richness of compost.. saw another video with new gardener using only compost too and no seed germination... yikes!! I decided to pull out all compost and mix with topsoil.. 2 yards of soil.. haven’t done this yet but will in couple days. Thanks for sharing .. finding too many ways to do things wrong. I hope I can simplify this process and share.

I think a tricky thing is the word "compost" and what people mean by it. I've noticed in the UK people refer to soil as compost, so that might be part of it. All the best of luck to you!!

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this works out for you! I'll likely be moving before next season to a place in the city where installing new raised beds might not be an option because I'll be renting, and I'm beginning to look to this no-dig method as a possible alternative.

Sorry for my late reply!! Do you mean how do you add your plants? Yes, just move the mulch to one side and dig either holes or a trench :)

How do you deal with sun. Seems to be reasonably shady at your ground. Same at my site.
