@@osnapitzjoan u couldnt dress as madison and have it be known that u were going as madison beer, though. specifically within pop music, artists not only have a musical but (also) stylistic identity that immediately sets them apart from their contemporaries. take an artist like ariana grande for example - her stylists are constantly playing around w different silhouettes and aesthetics within her eras, which set all her eras apart, however there's always constants within her styling: tall, era-specific heels, 60s influences, callbacks to vintage horror and 2000s romcoms and chick flicks, unique and bold silhouettes and (obviously) some variation of her iconic ponytail. someone unfamiliar w ariana as an artist may not immediately be able to recognise a halloween costume as being an ode to her, however (if pointed out) most would instantly be able to put the pieces together and draw parellels thanks to her prominent and consistent branding. madison's looks are always very pretty, but they lack any consistency and individuality
@@imouttahere9018 yes? Thousands of ppl literally dressed as different versions of Taylor for the eras tour based on diff eras…. Bro why on earth she should stick her whole image to a fast fashion tik tok aesthetics? That stuff ages like milk in a couple of months and her image would get collateral damage, just like new metal bands with blond spiked hair lmao
I’ve said for years that’s she’s “too perfect” & “too trendy” to actually make a memorable mainstream impact. Her branding lacks depth and feels shallow despite her actually being an interesting person. She’s a trend follower as opposed to a trendsetter and if she keeps doing that she will never be a mainstream popstar
@@applelan3 She has been consistent with her personal style but not with her stage outfits. She is loved vintage clothes especially streetwear. That‘s very spot on but Madison also looks so much like an instagram influencer she looks like every other influencer I see, she has the mainstream instagram influencer type, most people don’t even know she makes music because she is considered very pretty by everyone and everybody only cares for her looks and sexiness rather than who she is or her music, people only focus or care about her looks, it‘s honestly pretty sad. I think Madison also acts like an influencer rather than a singer
@@deusexmachina9776also she likes to be a tomboy sometimes with her dickies pants or oversized vintage sweaters. She has a personal style she need to translate this more into her image

She actually watches videos about herself (like constructive criticisms and such) so she might actually see this. And if she does i really hope she acts on it
@@thecavalieryouth you don't need to do anything actually. She sometimes watch videos like these about herself, her craft etc. For example she watched itz keisha's video about herself and even contacted her! Keisha said Madison was very sweet
ariana's look was so key to her brand for such a long time that people just started calling her ponytail lol, and people call taylor blondie too. i'm just sad that people seem to think of madison as an influencer first and an artist second. she could slay so hard and so consistently if anyone working with her had some sense and her team will Not let her under any circumstances 💔

@@AC-bk1jg Aaliyah’s aesthetic was sexy/cool. Not simply tomboy one day and girly the next. When she wore dresses she wore interesting prints/designs or she wore an all black dress with some skin which was considered sexy/chic. Her style image was sexy and cool.
I think one of the main reasons why she's not so popular it's because a lot of people see her as an influencer, not an artist That's an impediment for a lot of people who choose to not give her music an opportunity
i truly believe elevating her style beyond simple trends would push her out of influencer status! her music and videos are already so distinct, i just need her outfits to match 🥲
@mar-fe1ys I'm talking from experience, I have always seen her as an influencer 'cause those are the vibes she gives, I just found out that she's been in the industry for some years now. The first song I heard from her in a willing way was "Make You Mine" which is a really recent song and that got me in to the rest of her music and knowing more of her history as an artist. I know I don't represent everyone, but I know that just like me there's people who doesn't give influencers music a try do to how horrible they tend to be. And if they think she's an influencer the won't listen to her work.
I think Madison’s main issue right now is her brand tied to always being Pretty. Conventionally pretty. She’ll sometimes lean into an aesthetic like the futuristic vibes of Life Support or the dreamy vintage doll look for that tour but it’s only a surface level. I think a great example of this is her hair, she never experiments with it and always has it in 4 styles and roughly similar colors. Had she donned a blonde wig for the Life Support tour it would’ve made such a difference, or had she darkened her hair jet black or a cool toned dark brown. Even her makeup, almost always the same. Notice how even when she does a theme like, it’s still the same “Pretty” vibe. “Pretty alien, pretty horror movie character, pretty doll, pretty robot” I think she has the same issue Sydney Sweeney is having in the movie world, where they’re trying to show the world their range and authenticity but stilly relying on their body and perceived attraction. There’s a video detailing Sydney’s current career choices and compares it to Margot Robbie’s career which had followed a similar trajectory until she broke out of it with I Tonya. Basically, what Madison needs is: to play a character. Like you said, the siren, or the femme fatale. For a whole album cycle. Not a super strict or defined aesthetic (although it always helps) but an underlying theme. If she wants to do girly dolly coquette themed, then make it a lover girl album and tie it all in. If she gets deep and personal, dial down the outfits and bring out the casual street wear for promo and mv’s and keep it simple . She also really needs a hit songs. Not a viral tik tok presence that’s quickly forgotten. Like she needs a mainstream song. Not just for the money but also for the credibility in the industry which’ll give her more freedoms. I also secretly think Madison’s lukewarm success has been a part in her creative stump bc she isn’t getting pushed or back as much as she could be. Once she’s able to “prove” her worth I think it’ll be different and she’ll get more people signed on to her vision as an artist and that can lead to her becoming more confident in her work and making more high quality work so that the success won’t really matter bc it’ll be critically acclaimed. Idk if it’s making sense but it’s like a process
I agree with all that you said 👏🏼 For the hair part I‘d like to add that she did switch to jet black recently in time for her darker edm-pop song Make you Mine. And she has had blonde or bronze brown hair, tried out styles with cute pig tails, worn the Ariana ponytail, worn braids, buns etc. I wonder what she could do to have iconic hair like Sabrina, Ariana, Melanie Martinez, Chapell, Ice Spice etc., but I have a hard time finding ideas, as the „market“ for that is already pretty saturated. She would have to go really crazy/out of the box, which doesn‘t seem like her thing. Maybe she should stick to her usual hair and focus more on storytelling through fashion and having a consistent aesthetic.
Her dark hair and siren eyes are the only consistent part of her look, the same way that Sabrina Carpenter has bouncy blonde hair and doll makeup, I don't think Madison has to change her physical appearance to get attention, she just has to choose a clothing style and stick with it.
this needs to be sent to her management asap!! you're so spot on, she has all the makings of an it girl on the pop scene but the branding truly has been holding her back and the siren/femme fatale aesthetic would eatttt
Mood. “I need to find a style, silhouette and colors that will make me recognizable” - says me, the most uninteresting person you can meet in your life
I feel like Lana Del Rey gets away with also being all over the place with her fashion because her music speaks for itself. Madison, not being quite as iconic as Lana yet, would greatly benefit from a more cohesive image. I think she should play more with an edgier, sexy style, since she looks like a young Megan Fox. Edit: Dark feminine/siren is perfect!
I think you have a point but I think Lana's style and branding was actually pretty consistent at the beginning of her career, with born to die. It was either that old Hollywood, Priscilla Presley vintage style or the more sugarbaby, "trailer park" aesthetic, but always with the cigarettes and racy lyrics, and always very Americana. In this case, her branding was really more in the topics of her songs, but I think there were some visual aspects there too, like veils, big hair, smoke (from her cigarettes), and 50s style swimsuits. This branding was strong enough during her first album that yeah since then she's basically been able to do whatever the hell she wants and still be Lana, but I wouldn't say she's always been all over the place.
@@jaiweeniethis! Lana has a very consistent brand that allows for diversity in her style. She always plays up the 50s-60s vintage so it wouldn’t be weird if she performed in a baby doll dress with a bow in her hair or a faded tshirt with jean shorts. Even her working at waffle house for a day felt on brand
@@jaiweenieyep, she was extremely well branded - it tied well into her second album as well by playing into a Lynchian Hollywood version of Americana by way of the Blue Velvet cover for the H&M campaign. …which still tied into National Anthem era. Super duper styling for sure!
@@jaiweenie this is it, exactly! Lana's looks & music have always felt very grounded by the same Americana anchor. Her music has sounded cinematic & old Hollywood, there's been hiphop influences, and there's been rock inspirations and they *all* sounded perfectly in sync with the Lana we've come to know.
Even before Lana Del Rey became Lana Del Rey as we know it in terms of image, the music and her attitude was very similar, her vocals were exactly the same. She really didn't have to do anything drastic. Videogames came out at the perfect time - people were moving away from dance pop and gearing towards more alternative music (which sadly didn't last)
I actually was able to talk to Madison during her Spinnin tour while she was doing her QnA. I brought up her monster high era and she was talking about merch ideas and I suggested she should make dolls like her Madison Fear doll and she made a joke about how whenever she does random hand gestures while singing like raising claws in the air it's like an homage to monster high for her. In her words "It's very, we are monster high"
@@timtam333 as someone with bpd, the identity disturbance that comes with the disorder can result in someone changing their style often & having a hard time sticking to a certain aesthetic due to not having a strong sense of self. it can affect many aspects of how we present ourselves but this is just one part of it
Many artists have BPD and bipolar but dont necessarily have that issue either though. I actually think style has less to do with it and presence and energy is more what makes an artist stand out. There are some people who wear simple things and can still stand out just by their aura alone. I think she may just lack that type of presence or aura that is consistent. Clothing is just clothing, it can only get you so far imo.

Hopefully she builds a brand or style for herself soon so that she can grow as an artist more. Bella Poarch has done a really good job with that even if people still think of her as a TikToker, she has a clear style. Madison could be big, if she gets a hold on her style soon.
She has personal style it’s just not that crazy it’s rather basic but that is what she likes. I feel she needs to translate that more in to her music like Aaliyah. She a tomboy on day but the next day girlie
I honestly hope she does explore (and find success in) a sirenic style! It would just be so poetic to have it circle back, in a very funny but very nice way lol
I don’t get why she needs to change her style when this obviously the things she likes. She likes to be rather basic and the office siren core just a trend so it will not be popular in a year
But how to we objectively determine whether "can't be Madison Beer for Halloween" is a good or bad thing? I really do think the world would be a slightly better place overall if one could not recognizably be any celebrity for Halloween. I find anyone being recognizable as a celebrity at Halloween mildly problematic actually, a symptom of society as a whole going a bit wrong and being too celebrity focused.
I truly think the reason why she isn't popping off is because she doesn't have a specific style. It looks like she wears what's trendy. Ariana had the mini skirts/ponytail. Taylor is tall blondie with the bangs. Sabrina (more recently) is tanned & glammed blondie in short skirts. Chappell Roan is the curly dark red & her costumes are drag, bold and DIY. Popstars have to almost be like cartoon characters and wear the same/similar stuff to build their brand. They all have signature looks & If someone dressed up as any of these women, we'd be able to tell.

Literally been waiting for this part 2!!!! And this is something I've always thought was a very clear direction for Madison...idk why her and her team have never capitalized on that siren -jennifer's body, dark look.... It like you said... aligns with everything she puts out visually and sonically.... I genuinely hope she comes across this video because she would kill in this aesthetic - IF SHE'S CONSISTENT.... I love how you broke it down btw... Explaining... showing examples...then giving the direction I've been hoping she takes
thank you Eli!! always love hearing your thoughts 🤗 i wish i knew what Madison and her team talked about in regards to branding because I need her to get it together SOON lol

I think of Chappell Roan, she has such a distinctive style that really represents her personality and music. When You see her, you instantly understand get her vibe. Madison always gave “L.A Influencer”, I don’t know anything about her or her music because she just didn’t stand out to me. I think she should go for a dark fantasy aesthetic, you still get the doll look but with a heavier ambience.
As someone who barely knows Madison beyond word of mouth, this video was so accurate. I never listen to her music because I don’t know what to expect and seeing her Princess outfits on tour made me think it would match that aesthetic, which doesn’t interest me. Hearing that she makes “dark pop” made me SO much more intrigued but I never would have guessed that. And even now I’m not inclined to go listen because without the visuals it’s just not an immersive experience. She absolutely needs to see this 🙌
as a huge stan i feel like so many ppl have been saying she has no brand but i finally understand it the way you’ve explained it. cause it’s true! my sister is all over the place 😭 it’s the fashion!

Another good example of how important a signature style can be is Tyla, she's new (to the west) but she already has a recognizable style with her makeup looks her outfits and her hair, when you think of her you can almost immediately picture the kind of outfit hair and makeup she would have without looking up her pictures
No because then she would have realized that she actually found her style and they just nee to translate that into her image. She’s a more of tomboy on one day and girlie the next day. That reminds me of Aaliyah the rnb singer who was known for that
The fashion thing is a symptom even the music is somewhat inconsistent, I think she is just a person who gets bored hence the lack of a brand. Looking at her peers who have brands she may find that restricting
I think she’s probably so scared to do something flashy because of how much online hate she’s gotten… she probably knows the more attention you attract the more negative comments you get and she’s said how much that affects her
She needs to do something similar to what MARINA did with 'Electra Heart' - she literally created an entire character based around the album & dressed up as her through the entire era in videos, interviews, performances etc.
Your point is so clear, coherent and relevant, great job. I couldn't agree more, I LOVE Madison Beer her music is super super underrated, but her brand is super weak and generic, great video, hopefully her team sees this :D
One of the reasons I didn't listen to Madison is because of how I perceived her style, I saw her and saw the title "boyshit" then thought she's one of those "bad girls"trying to ride the trend so I just ignored her works 'til I listened to Reckless. I assumed her music was like her outfits, the same way Sabrina's fresh, romantic and flirty style, Ariana Grande's sexy seductress style. Her brand felt half-assed for a lack of a better term, and it SUCKS! cause her music and mvs are great
i think her style is too focused on her looking pretty and hot rather than setting a trademark if you know what i mean she just looks as pretty as possible and makes her seem as if she has no personality whatsoever
I want to see her with loooong jet black straight hair everywhere, I think if someone can convey a lot of emotions and styles with jet black straight hair is her, I don't listen to her music but I think it would really suit the description that is made ❤
I mean the way you described her aesthetic... I would just go straight from the dark, horror-esque, misfit, hopeless romantic siren to the sensual, seductive but kinda out-for-herself-only mob wife. This is literally a perfect evolution and gives so much storyline potential, she would be such a character if she only listened to you 😉
@@gleewhoseline198 absolutely not, this is just talking about personas and artistic consistency. madison is human and she has been very open about her struggles such as being dropped by her label at 16 because she did not want to be a pop princes. her current creative direction feels way more authentic, , but speaking artistically-wise, she has greater potential and needs better promotion and image-awareness, because she is loosing points not knowing who she wants to be on stage.
@@gleewhoseline198 Umm what? We're talking about artistic/persona branding, not Madison as a person. ALL successful popstars have a clear brand that makes them memorable. Male popstars are not excluded.
When she looked like Meghan Fox in that one scene (I don't really listen to her music, I'm just here for fashion) the greys and black and the mini skirt really REALLY fit her so well
I think Amy Lee of Evanescence is a perfect example of matching brand with music. You could easily identify what you’re going to get when you saw Amy Lee - dark, grunge, goth-fusion, post-hardcore.
🤦♂️ um expect no the music is not post haedcore, it's not goth either. It's symphonic rock. Dressing the way she does is not away to say what the music is. When it comes to rock, metal, goth, alt, punk, and emo. That's just not how it works. Those genres are not about the fashion they are about the music.
The whole point of those genres is that they sell based on the music, not color or fashion. Take Sabrina Carpenter and put her in a mediocre metalcore band, and no matter what her fashion style is, no one will care. Much of rock, metal, goth, punk, is taking ideas from jazz, folk, blues, and symphonic music. Where vocals are not always the key point to bring everything together.
This is such a good take and this style would be a unique one in the current pop scene yet still true to her. Honestly as soon as i saw her pink Sabrina esq look with the shiny tights and books i checked out because it made me assume her music and tour lacked originality, which isnt true but thats the power that costume and aesthetic have. She needs that consistency and she's the only one that could not only pull of a dark femme fatale siren, but also thrive within it
I _kind of_ see a pattern of neutral colors and cute, simple fashion. Still boring, though. I'm a big fan and I hope she can find her style someday. She's still 2 albums into her career, though, so it's not too late!!

I love the siren idea, but I also think (maybe in combination with siren aesthetic) she could lean into the dark futuristic alien thing more because that seems to resonate with her personally and it would be more unique. Maybe the same flattering dresses she’s been wearing but with more daring, angular silhouettes to seem more futuristic or otherworldly? Idk just some thoughts hehe great video!!!
to add to what you said about simple not being bad as a brand for a singer, I think renee rapp is a brilliant example. her stage outfits aren't flashy or particularly costumey, but they are quintessentially her and cohesive. also, would love to see you talk about tyla (who I believe is another example of someone with cohesive branding and great marketing like sabrina) if you're going to make this like a series
3:37 exactly what someone in my family said, if like a good 80% of people at the concert was wearing a bow, where was hers when it’s supposed to be such a signature thing 🎀 it suits her as well
0:16 she would do so amazing with the renaissance look with siren voice, her voice would separate her from other pop artists and the renaissance look would separate her from the “iphone face” allegations. it might put a slight hinderance on the way boys view her, which is almost half a portions of her instagram followers, but she would gain the signature style. madison could even wear cheetah print, which could be her signature fashion print because it mixes with her looks and voice so well.
you're totally feeding my madison beer obsession right now! i'm a huge fan of her work and am invested in her success but i definitely understand many of the points in your video! i think what may be unique to madison beer can be seen through how her fans dress. specifically looking at pictures that fans took at her spinnin' tour or even looking up spinnin' tour outfits on pinterest there's a very clear through-line of what her fans think of her aesthetically. it's very much that mix of street style and hyper-feminine, but the defining feature definitely is that ribbon bow in everyone's hair. brittany broski even said on her podcast that the last show in LA was the "pretty girl convention" there's definitely something there that madison has created. thank you for the video!
Please please please do a Chappell Roan video! Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is such a fantastic album, every song on it is so unique and cohesive at the same time! Her aesthetic is just begging to be explored-BY YOU! I can’t wait for her video!
She has the vocals, she has the team, she has the looks, she has the talent. She has SO much potential! I personally love her music and completely agree with this video
As someone whose style falls into a lot of different aesthetics, sometimes the seemingly having more than one identity IS the identity. I personally think it says that you're always changing as a person and you can't be labeled as one thing and put into a box. There's so many different sides to you. At least that's what I think.
@@brunab6474honestly, that deviation from the popstar brand formula is something I really admire about Madison. She's so open about her personal struggles and her gripes with the false narratives put up by celebrities. It's refreshing to see somebody in pop who doesn't subscribe to the song and dance demanded of female pop stars in the modern day. So although it might not be the best in terms of marketing herself, it makes sense in terms of authenticity. It's a testament to how much control she has over her own creative outlet and that is so, so empowering to see!!
I think that would work but there's no through-line, nothing that, regardless of the style change, would still make her recognisably Madison. Taylor Swift was used as an example for how she's switched up her look with every album, but there's something undeniably Taylor about it still. Same with Ariana Grande. She's done the baby doll look (Sweetener comes to mind for me), she's done 60s mod/glam (imo, "positions" was close to that), she's done hiphop influenced diva ("thank u next"), she's done sweet & wholesome (her first 2 albums). But every one of those looks was very specifically Ariana. That ponytail was still front & centre, and she still had a kept a lot of similar silhouettes that still ended up looking new for each album cycle. Even Rihanna. She's been an island girl, she's had an edgy, harder, more rock-influenced look, she's done avant-garde style/high fashion icon - but they still all made sense for Rihanna.
Dark mermaid is perfect. Fish out of water narrative, yearning like Ariel did for the prince. I really like Madisons music and I hope I see the day when her branding solidifies so I can replicate her outfits, mermaids are something I've always loved.
I love these videos! I would love to see a style analysis series on multiple female artists. I especially loved your Sabrina Carpenter video. Please make a style analysis video series. It would be so good omgg
Yeah I was so confused why the branding for this tour was what it should’ve been for last tour I had a blast at both I think the set dressing was better on this tour but the outfits seemed a little basic sadly. the whole crowd had bows and either emulated her big pants and tiny tops or her reckless style even the fans were more consistent to a singular vibe
the crowd being consistent is actually something i didn't think about! my dad came with me to see her on the spinnin tour and i remember the next day he asked me why madison didn't wear a bow despite everyone else in the crowd wearing one which i took as a lighthearted joke but it does make sense with how her branding is all over the place. i also agree that the branding for each tour should've been swapped!
Maybe she could follow the stories of these three characters you mentioned, seductive madison, lover madison and alien madison, keep a story for each of them and create a narrative, she's all of them, and once she wants to come up with another version that she found as she grew up, she can kill them or hide them in a box (maybe not a box, something similar, even sending them to another galaxy), she even can make them into a whole, the secretary feels odd
I thought about your suggestion while you were explaining, so I was happy when you said the siren branding! God I wish she could have her time ughhh i love her :'(
It's pointed out right at the start the failure of her branding and styling: she follows trends. Going from IG baddie to coquette feminine. But then she doesn't commit to the type of makeup that the coquette look does, she sticks to her usual IG/Tiktok makeup. She experiments with trends (Taylor and Ariana and Olivia and Billie all do this too) but she never fully commits to the whole bit when trying out the different styles (for example, when Taylor went into her reputation era, her styling was a mess but I respected that she tried the whole thing out properly from the bleached hair and brows to the terrible 2006 shoes). It feels like even when Madison is experimenting, she is still too afraid to be anything less than what is trendy-pretty and ironically, despite all their style experimentations, Taylor/Ariana/Olivia/Billie have such strong visual identities and brands anyway. Another thing is that Tyla is so much of a newer artist compared to Madison Beer and I've only really seen two music videos but when I see outfits, I can say 'oh that's a Tyla outfit'. I think Madison definitely needs to take a leaf out Chappell and Sabrina's current rise and realise she has to define her visual look based on what she truly likes and wants. A lot of people complain about Sabrina's look saying it's 'sexy baby' and 'infantilising' and they hate her makeup and say it ages her, but if she likes what she likes, she should stick to it, which she does! Her rebrand with the big hair and full glam makeup look is part of what made Sabrina pop off in the last year.
Maybe her style is meant to be fluid. Mine is too. Everyday could be a new look and I struggled SO hard for SO many years to find my style and then said, nah, too boring, let's be all styles.
True but personal style is different from having a brand for PR and Marketing purposes. That’s why if you were a celebrity you could hire a stylist/publicist etc to figure out how to market yourself in a cohesive way
When I saw Madison live 4 months ago, I immediately thought of a siren, because she has such a siren voice & blue suits her so incredibly well. The whole aesthetic you picked out is just perfect. I hope for Madison that she finds her iconic style and that people see and love her for who she really is as much as we do.
i just don't get any uniqueness from her, i don't get what's her *thing*. there are several stunning pop stars, what makes her different? i hope she finds her look and brand soon 🙏
I agree the only things holding her back is not having a solid brand. She also doesn't do PR stunts / relationships or hang out with other celebrities that much. Sometimes part of having a recognizable brand is not being afraid to look silly or different or less conventionally attractive. Like Lady Gaga or Chappel Roan. Madison Beer is a bit too polished and filtered. And her style is inconsistent, like you say. Others say she's an influencer but Sabrina Carpenter also does this, she wear stage makeup on and off stage, including lnstagram, spray tans and Facetunes her photos. But she doesn't look "perfect" like Madison Beer and maybe that's why she gets away with it because she has a unique face for Hollywood and stuff. She doesn't have a tiny nose or even a flat stomach. I think being too perfect sort of dims Madison's individuality.
please continue the art of popstars playlist. Subscribed your channel just after watching this video, your approach towards fashion and branding is incredible.
Super agree with the Siren concept. She'll nail it easy. Imagine if she did it for Life Support mv, it would make perfect sense because water literally gives life. It could've been a nice concept. Great analysis btw 💖
There is also a theory that to get big in entertainment you need an iconic hair, like Ariana's ponytail, like Chapel's red curls, like when Rihanna chopped her hair and had a black bob in umbrella. And Madison's hair is just pretty but not iconic.
I absolutely agree with this point. However, i just hate that its required for pop stars. I wonder if men need the same branding? Im genuinely not sure.
They definitely do. It's not as "in your face" though. When you think Bruno Mars, you think of a retro party concept. When you think Michael Jackson, you think of the sparkly glove with a fedora or his dancing.
To add to this ig even Ed sheeran has a certain branding. When we see a boy in a round neck simple t-shirt and jeans with an acoustic guitar , we instantly think of him. Whether he does it as a part of his brand or he just likes them, we never know but it works lol

She is actually so good in making music and has a really good debut album for someone who is seen as a influencer, you just have to listen to her music. Her albums as a whole, not just the popular songs. When I sat down and listened to Life Support, I got hooked to her music and realized how talented she is but they paint her as a just a pretty face.
8:58 this is very true in my experience. I haven’t watched the video you did about her MVs mainly because I have no interest in what I thought her music was and even your descriptions of the genres of her albums is genuinely throwing me for a look because I could have never guessed that was what you were gonna say each time
I have never listened to her music, so when you said "Madison Beer's music is very dark and alternative with electronic elements" I was literally like "what." because I never would have guessed that based on how she presents herself. Great video!
Honestly, I didn’t even know Madison Beer made music. I just thought she was an instagram influencer. She’s always been really stylish, but it never felt like she was musician
Spot on with the siren aesthetic ! I never thought of that but it makes PERFECT sense for Madison. 🩵🌊🧜🏻♀️ I hope she or someone on her team sees this and considers going in that direction for the next chapter in her career. You are a genius 🙌🩵
i also notice how she idolizes people and cosplays them on her tour. That's one aspect that causes her inconsistency. I noticed how she copied Jennie Kim, Ariana Grande, and Sabrina Carpenter, etc. all in trend. But most specifically Megan Fox, and honestly, Megan Fox early 2000s style looks good on her she should stick to darker palettes she looks great with dark eyeshadows and siren look.
Looove the siren idea for Madison!! I’m not a huge fan of her musically, but I want to see her succeed!! Having a strong visual brand is 100% necessary for a pop girlie
@koonshia nepotism isnt just about getting a job because your parents were something. you get jobs because your parents know right people , and that is nepotism too
what an amazing video 🥹 i really hope that, with time, madison can start to show more consistency with her storytelling, her outfits included. she's sooo talented and creative and the music since dear society has been so consistent. i really do think that what she really needs is a better marketing team
I think she was moving towards the hyperfeminine vintage inspired doll vibes towards the end of the Life Support tour but Sabrina kind of beat her to the punch and took over that lane. But tbh I think she really excels with the futuristic Yeezy vibes of beige and earth tones, mixed with that femme fatale Megan Fox bombshell, like the cover of Life Support. The 60s dolly corset ribbons really doesn’t suite her. I also think she should lean towards the avant garde side of fashion like off white, Rick Owen’s, Loewe etc.
OMG! I loved the femme fatal, but I wasn't sure because it seems like I've already seen it, then you proposed the siren and it's PERFECT and FRESH! More dynamic because she can still embody the innocent, doll-like effect she brought to the tour! As well as playing with more colors. Furthermore, low-waisted clothing looks great on her, she could also give us a less cinematic version of this type of aesthetic. Not to mention that it would attract a lot of attention on social media, especially after the office siren trend.

That's actually genius!
um u can literally dress as her
@@osnapitzjoan u couldnt dress as madison and have it be known that u were going as madison beer, though. specifically within pop music, artists not only have a musical but (also) stylistic identity that immediately sets them apart from their contemporaries.
take an artist like ariana grande for example - her stylists are constantly playing around w different silhouettes and aesthetics within her eras, which set all her eras apart, however there's always constants within her styling: tall, era-specific heels, 60s influences, callbacks to vintage horror and 2000s romcoms and chick flicks, unique and bold silhouettes and (obviously) some variation of her iconic ponytail. someone unfamiliar w ariana as an artist may not immediately be able to recognise a halloween costume as being an ode to her, however (if pointed out) most would instantly be able to put the pieces together and draw parellels thanks to her prominent and consistent branding.
madison's looks are always very pretty, but they lack any consistency and individuality

This was Sabrina’s problem until she opened for Taylor Swift, lack of personal aesthetic

I think one of the main reasons why she's not so popular it's because a lot of people see her as an influencer, not an artist
That's an impediment for a lot of people who choose to not give her music an opportunity
this is such a dated take this was viable in like 2020 but i don’t think the majority of people who know of her think that anymore
i truly believe elevating her style beyond simple trends would push her out of influencer status! her music and videos are already so distinct, i just need her outfits to match 🥲
@@artatmidnight they really are, her music videos are so well produced and they need to be more appreciated, there's tons of work behind them
This thought has always been so strange to me cuz I literally don't know what else you could know her from like what else does she do than music
“Pretty alien, pretty horror movie character, pretty doll, pretty robot”
I think she has the same issue Sydney Sweeney is having in the movie world, where they’re trying to show the world their range and authenticity but stilly relying on their body and perceived attraction.
Agreed, yet her prioritizing "always pretty" might actually work for a siren branding. Now, if only someone will suggest it to her and her team.
loved this
Her dark hair and siren eyes are the only consistent part of her look, the same way that Sabrina Carpenter has bouncy blonde hair and doll makeup, I don't think Madison has to change her physical appearance to get attention, she just has to choose a clothing style and stick with it.
this needs to be sent to her management asap!! you're so spot on, she has all the makings of an it girl on the pop scene but the branding truly has been holding her back and the siren/femme fatale aesthetic would eatttt

Videogames came out at the perfect time - people were moving away from dance pop and gearing towards more alternative music (which sadly didn't last)
the siren for madison is the most genius thing ive ever heard, she literally looks and sounds like what you would think when someone says "siren"
Aw 😭
I love this it makes her seem more down to earth and like a real human
she’s spoke about this before and has said that bpd has definitely made finding a significant style difficult :’(
Where has she said this?
what does bpd have to do with fashion
@@timtam333 people with bpd usually can’t contain the same style of fashion for long
@@timtam333 as someone with bpd, the identity disturbance that comes with the disorder can result in someone changing their style often & having a hard time sticking to a certain aesthetic due to not having a strong sense of self. it can affect many aspects of how we present ourselves but this is just one part of it
Many artists have BPD and bipolar but dont necessarily have that issue either though. I actually think style has less to do with it and presence and energy is more what makes an artist stand out. There are some people who wear simple things and can still stand out just by their aura alone. I think she may just lack that type of presence or aura that is consistent. Clothing is just clothing, it can only get you so far imo.

You can’t be Madison Beer for Halloween, recognizably. You can for all of the other artists you name.

This. Shes not iconic nor has a significant look
The fashion thing is a symptom even the music is somewhat inconsistent, I think she is just a person who gets bored hence the lack of a brand. Looking at her peers who have brands she may find that restricting
That could be
I think she’s probably so scared to do something flashy because of how much online hate she’s gotten… she probably knows the more attention you attract the more negative comments you get and she’s said how much that affects her
She needs to do something similar to what MARINA did with 'Electra Heart' - she literally created an entire character based around the album & dressed up as her through the entire era in videos, interviews, performances etc.
Your point is so clear, coherent and relevant, great job. I couldn't agree more, I LOVE Madison Beer her music is super super underrated, but her brand is super weak and generic, great video, hopefully her team sees this :D
The Monster High persona comeback as a Siren would be amazing
Exactly
good take, this makes so much sense, her fashion changes according to micro trends and she dresses to blend in not stand out

I'd love to hear your take on Aurora, her style and aesthetic
I mean the way you described her aesthetic... I would just go straight from the dark, horror-esque, misfit, hopeless romantic siren to the sensual, seductive but kinda out-for-herself-only mob wife. This is literally a perfect evolution and gives so much storyline potential, she would be such a character if she only listened to you 😉

Madison’s pr team should watch this
I think Amy Lee of Evanescence is a perfect example of matching brand with music.

The siren aesthetic is so good for her
you're totally feeding my madison beer obsession right now! i'm a huge fan of her work and am invested in her success but i definitely understand many of the points in your video!
i think what may be unique to madison beer can be seen through how her fans dress. specifically looking at pictures that fans took at her spinnin' tour or even looking up spinnin' tour outfits on pinterest there's a very clear through-line of what her fans think of her aesthetically. it's very much that mix of street style and hyper-feminine, but the defining feature definitely is that ribbon bow in everyone's hair. brittany broski even said on her podcast that the last show in LA was the "pretty girl convention" there's definitely something there that madison has created.
thank you for the video!
True but for an artist that doesn't work because they're not just an individual, they're a brand.
@@brunab6474exactly !
It doesn't work for her though. She looks like an IG model just wearing what's on trend.
Yeah I was so confused why the branding for this tour was what it should’ve been for last tour I had a blast at both I think the set dressing was better on this tour but the outfits seemed a little basic sadly. the whole crowd had bows and either emulated her big pants and tiny tops or her reckless style even the fans were more consistent to a singular vibe
the crowd being consistent is actually something i didn't think about! my dad came with me to see her on the spinnin tour and i remember the next day he asked me why madison didn't wear a bow despite everyone else in the crowd wearing one which i took as a lighthearted joke but it does make sense with how her branding is all over the place. i also agree that the branding for each tour should've been swapped!
she likes the amount she has and she is comfortable with her community she has said she doesn’t care for more. i’m happy for her
Madison just wants to have fun and do whatever she pleases and I’m with it honestly
Yes 🙏🙏🙏🙏!!!!
Buf her team is obviously desperate for her to become mainstream
Maybe she could follow the stories of these three characters you mentioned, seductive madison, lover madison and alien madison, keep a story for each of them and create a narrative, she's all of them, and once she wants to come up with another version that she found as she grew up, she can kill them or hide them in a box (maybe not a box, something similar, even sending them to another galaxy), she even can make them into a whole, the secretary feels odd
She did the coquette corset dresses couple years before sabrina
I thought about your suggestion while you were explaining, so I was happy when you said the siren branding! God I wish she could have her time ughhh i love her :'(
she gives Instagram baddie vibes from the start. now it's really hard to get past beyond that.
she needs to do the siren style oh my godddd
She’s also a really cool and genuine person, she deserves what she has
that's why most girls who want to be and look like her don't know where to start 💀
that siren moodboard you made was spot on wow
You are a genius!!! I hope Maddison will see this video someday. She needs it
The queen has posted 😍😍😍 I love u so muchhhhhhh. You are such a great researcher and a great writer that explains the topic so well
thank you so much !! i try 🥲😙❤️❤️
I love the branding break downs you do. No one else on UA-cam is really doing this
i just don't get any uniqueness from her, i don't get what's her *thing*. there are several stunning pop stars, what makes her different? i hope she finds her look and brand soon 🙏
Yayyy I love your videos. I love Madison and hope she can be a bigger artist. Also I loved your Ariana Grande video and Disney ones!!
thank you!! 🩷🤗
please continue the art of popstars playlist.
I thought Madison Beer was an influencer who sometimes sings and has the odd EP here and now i know why i've always thought that.
I think it also applies to men. For example when you think of the weeknd you think of the unique hair style
They definitely do. It's not as "in your face" though. When you think Bruno Mars, you think of a retro party concept. When you think Michael Jackson, you think of the sparkly glove with a fedora or his dancing.
@@52andattitude48 good examples!
To add to this ig even Ed sheeran has a certain branding. When we see a boy in a round neck simple t-shirt and jeans with an acoustic guitar , we instantly think of him. Whether he does it as a part of his brand or he just likes them, we never know but it works lol
Usher, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper
You know she looks more like a model than a singer- like a VS angel or something
I love this channel and the thumbnails are just so magical and visually appealing like I can tell GRAPHIC DESIGN IS YOUR PASSION and would love to see you dive into music more as well because I don’t know if kpop is a genre youre interested in as well but it has so many idol groups that are all very focused on branding and visual identity in similar manor and would love to hear about your in put on it all
She is actually so good in making music and has a really good debut album for someone who is seen as a influencer, you just have to listen to her music.
Even Hailey has an esthetic and it's clean girl
i also notice how she idolizes people and cosplays them on her tour. That's one aspect that causes her inconsistency. I noticed how she copied Jennie Kim, Ariana Grande, and Sabrina Carpenter, etc. all in trend. But most specifically Megan Fox, and honestly, Megan Fox early 2000s style looks good on her she should stick to darker palettes she looks great with dark eyeshadows and siren look.
the siren is sooooo perfect
Looove the siren idea for Madison!! I’m not a huge fan of her musically, but I want to see her succeed!! Having a strong visual brand is 100% necessary for a pop girlie
wasn't she a nepo baby too? her mom knowing some of justin birbers people . i found that out long time ago and i was like aight idgaf about her music
thats not what being a “nepo baby” is tho
@koonshia nepotism isnt just about getting a job because your parents were something. you get jobs because your parents know right people , and that is nepotism too
She's too good. Like a genius in all areas. I want more people to see her for who she truly is but also wanna gatekeep lol
Gosh same 😭
Genius is a stretch
@@canesugar911 We all have opinions and that's okay. I only say genius because her music style really speaks to me and her visions are amazing.
@@ZoraSingsohh agree to disagree
what an amazing video 🥹 i really hope that, with time, madison can start to show more consistency with her storytelling, her outfits included. she's sooo talented and creative and the music since dear society has been so consistent. i really do think that what she really needs is a better marketing team
Now we have 2 options:
• she or her stylist sees this vid
or
•you become her stylist (i think it makes more sense)
I think she was moving towards the hyperfeminine vintage inspired doll vibes towards the end of the Life Support tour but Sabrina kind of beat her to the punch and took over that lane.
But tbh I think she really excels with the futuristic Yeezy vibes of beige and earth tones, mixed with that femme fatale Megan Fox bombshell, like the cover of Life Support. The 60s dolly corset ribbons really doesn’t suite her.
I also think she should lean towards the avant garde side of fashion like off white, Rick Owen’s, Loewe etc.
I don't see her being vintage anyway tho
You are so talented, and I hope Madison or her team watch this video & implement the ideas. She truly is an underrated artist
Yes siren with a dash of dark academia since she does love her neutrals
