@@krazus2036I think you’re right, guys coming in shredded may not be as lean as Dorian was and other competitors in the 90’s but they’re still coming in super lean yet they have lots of thick extra skin around their faces that seems to linger even when they’re shredded

I think the 90s was the sweet spot for bodybuilding. They brought that optimal balance between size and conditioning. Dorian had two years of outstanding presentation when he was so far ahead of the pack that nobody else was in contention. But he also ushered in the mass monster era

Dorian wasn't really all that much bigger than those before him. Gaspari was 3 inches shorter and only 10 pounds lighter in competition. Yates just delivered that sort of mass in a far superior package, with much better balance to his physique and correspondingly his aesthetics were unreal.
That said I think achieving that sort of conditioning would break and/or kill the majority of people. Big Ramy's hollow 'Death Face" comes to mind and he still never hit a Dorian-esque level of dryness.
Mass-Monster? The only thing which was massive was his lats. everything else was just typical normal.
@@Vrory77 Compared to previous Mr O's he was substantially bigger and whilst he himself wasn't blocky, there is a direct link between where Yates started (more mass with ridonkulous conditioning) and Coleman ended (mass was the priority, uncontrolled GH gut, less focus on flow and aesthetics).
Even the shorter guys were great like Sean Ray !!!

Watched Dorian win 3 Olympias. Named my first child after him and had the pleasure to talk to him a couple times. Real down to earth. Not egotistical or pretentious. The thing about him was his skin was like grainy cellophane. Almost nasty lol

@@glynhannaford7332 a term Lee Haney and Joe Weider used along with others. It was so thin and with oil looked like cellophane and the grainy look had to do with the appearance of his skins texture. It seems different standing next to other competitors,

90s was my favorite era of bodybuilding. Mass monsters but with epic levels of conditioning. I used to train like the way Arnold did but now I train more like Dorian and the results have been significantly better.
I never liked the way Dorian looked, but he’s exponentially better than today. Still like the 70s and early 80s competitors the best for aesthetics.
Competitors from the 70's doesn't have the conditioning like from the 90's. They were round and not shredded, in today's standard competitors need to be shredded to the bone and muscular as heck.
I liked Haney, Shawn Ray, Labrada, Strydom and more, it was just incredible back then.

I think it’s near impossible to reach that level when you put on that much muscle. You look at Ronnie who was sliced, definition and separation everywhere, didn’t hit that level of conditioning.

I don’t really blame the bodybuilders of today, I blame the judging therefore the IFBB. The judges started instructing the competitors to be bigger and fuller if they wanted to place well most likely to sell more magazines . In the meantime conditioning has suffered and now everyone bitches.

Once heard Dorian saying he once got to the Olympia stage so conditioned that he felt extreme pain at the heels of his feet. Apparently it was the bones of his feet getting in contact with the skin under his feet. Why? Because he melted almost all the fat cells in his body including under his feet. So he was literally walking on bones and it was extremely uncomfortable for him.
You can track the changes in the eras of bodybuilding with the changes in drugs. The golden era had lots of dbol, deca, Winstrol, primo, and of course test. The mass monster era came about because of the use of trenbolone, hgh, and insulin. The “grainy” skin condition that Dorian Yates is known for but also Sam Sulek and Nick walker have is caused by tren.

Their conditioning is garbage because their muscles are too full of glycogen. The fibers will not be as visible. Insulin abuse is what brought about these bloated balloons

conditioning is important but aesthetic more so, i agree todays guys are just big, but alot of them 90s guys were still top heavy, most bodybuilders look horrendous, ronnie coleman was the goat, he actually had legs/glutes, the back double bicep was nothing short of perfection

I think another reason is shyte lighting....90s lighting was much better... Today's Mr. Olympia lighting is bad a lot of light rays overlapping with each other smudging the details.....and then there is a freaking l.e.d advertisement board right in the centre of the stage.

The conditioning is the same, the difference is the GH use. The abuse of GH has thickened the skins of bodybuilders over the years so even if they get as peeled as the 90s they will never have the same look. Look at dorian at the end of his career when he started using GH and all the other bodybuilders of the time. GH and Insulin destroys the look, and thats why no one has death face anymore on stage.

If anything pharmaceutical-grade steroids is more potent nowadays due to the progress in terms of production.. more efficient and methods. There has always been fake and homemade drugs, and nowadays its even more common due to the demand and regulations of pharma grade medicines.. Trust me, We actually got stuff they just dream about in the 90s no matter what type of chemical. But the black Market is so shady and huge amount of fake or underdosed drugs are produced and sold. I’d guess over 75 % are either just fake or diluted stuff in the black Market. Unless you yourself go and get a prescription!!
