In this drama, they made the fl a little weak, not very smart. Its an okay drama to watch.
I hate dramas generally with harems as it’s so utterly sad for the women, I know historically it was a fact, and often it was needed to secure bloodlines etc because many children died very young, but to have one legal wife and many concubines was just awful. One wonders if the man did genuinely love only one woman?, if this was the case was it hard to then be with the other women ( I’m trying to see it from the man’s perspective also), all that bitching, backstabbing and fighting for power and for a man who’s heart you would never have. You have the politics mixed in to this and women forced into this harem against their will possibly away from men they loved!!. It’s all awful!!.
Even with a big harem , it never ensured survival of children because there weren't exactly a lot of things done for the kids' well-being. If they kept one or two wives and did their best to raise kids , keeping them safe , maybe letting the children out of forbidden City in fresh air , they might have fared better.
Oh come on in ancient India for thousands of years, the kings used to have not more than 5 queens and very less children, and some only had one wives , there was no concept of concubines , but the children's were still born well , healthy and smart and lived a long life, it's just an excuse for lust.

The story is similar. These Royals keep changing their names and altering the spin on the truth and History. It confuses everything. This Emperor's
harem remained small and manageable. Ruyi's harem was a zoo. The Great Qing had been around for a while by then. This is like a Prequel. Situations can repeat through generations so this could happen and some people fail to learn from their mistakes. Progress is great as long as you don't change anything.
Tbf, Hongli didn’t have a choice in who his empress was. He was going to choose Ruyi, but because of his father’s empress being punished he wasn’t allowed to.
@@kaylapayton477 In the beginning that is true but with all the intrigue, backstabbing and double dealing, over time Ruyi was sacrificed and betrayed over and over and that was by choice. Taiji actually did protect Bu Ran throughout the story.
