I like the way you explain how things work, It's technical enough without being over my head. I am fairly new to electric guitar and need all the information I can get, lol. I had no idea there was so much that goes into guitar tones. Thanks for being a good reliable source of that information 🤘
Colin is a man of great skill, great hair, and great socks. Seriously though man, I've been following your channel a few years now and love every video I watch of yours. Cheers man!
You need to do another series like Will It Shred. That's one of the bets things to be put on youtube, I'd love to see a second one or even just a build.
I just discovered your channel and a guitar set up "how to" would be so fun and informative from you. You have a way of explaining things that doesn't make me feel like an idiot.
I had this pedal when I was playing out about six, seven years ago. I didn't realize they had been out for so long a lot of UA-cam videos I've looked at where over 10 years old on this. Anyway this thing was awesome the two Prince were awesome and it actually had a tone print that gave me the sound of vintage boss chorus its what I actually used, but you could dial in any sound you want with this thing using the tone prints or the editor or if you just fool with the knobs yourself if you buy this pedal you will not be sorry.
One of my favourite uses of this pedal was Duff McKagan from Guns N Roses using it during the later years of Appetite For Destruction Tours and for most of Use Your Illusion 1 & 2. Such a distinctive tone with his Gallien Kruger amps.
can't wait for the Heineken chorus to come out! though, TC kind of confused things by making the Corona green. seriously though, fantastic sound quality out of that thing. I actually preferred the more defined sound of the single chorus to the tri chorus. would really have to check it out in person to be sure though.
I really like the trichorus, but it is quite application specific and can be very subtle. For this video the single chorus certainly works better to show the effect in action, but as part of a fuller sound I can see it being too obvious. Worth having both in my opinion.
Great video. I'm really into these "tone print" pedals. Lots of features for so little brass. Thank you for your brilliant videos. Just wanted to say, your hard work is appreciated.
TC is one of my favorite pedal companies and I have the Hall of Fame reverb, PolyTune 2 and 2 Polytune clip-ons, Ditto looper, Spark mini booster, and Mojo Mojo drive. I recently became a Seymour Duncan dealer and picked a few pedals up with my first order. I'd like to see you review the Catalina dynamic chorus.
I like these videos where you talk about how the effects work and what they do with the sound. Chorus is a pretty cool effect in its texture by itself, but the concept is really what's cool (emulate a full ensemble (or chorus) with one instrument/voice. I feel like the tri-chorus does this better as you don't generally get an ensemble with just two instruments/voices, but then again, three isn't much of a chorus either (but it's at least closer). Are there such things as multi-choruses (where you can select how many different signals there are)? With that you could do something like 6-12 voices for bass/cello players, and 12-20ish voices for violinists/violist and suddenly you sound like a full string ensemble with only 4-5 musicians (which could be used in recordings or opera/musical theater without hiring an entire ensemble). You could also in theory do the same thing with a voices in the recording studio, -record a four part harmony and sound like a full choir. Another thought, if you're trying to get the many more voices (or multi-chorus), could you run chorus pedals into other chorus pedals to keep adding voices? Or would the effected signal be too unstable for the second chorus to do anything usable with it (especially by the time it gets to the 3rd or 4th chorus pedal)?
Please, teach us about the BOSS MD-2. I have one, but the videos I found doesn't explain way too much of this pedal. I think it's an actually good BOSS distortion. It's so good to see that your videos are gettin' better and better!
I'd be interested to hear how this works in combination with distortion, if it would fill out the sound almost like 2 guitars or if it would just be a muddy mess (talking rythm here, not leads). Any chance of a follow up?
Well I have a TC Dark Matter distortion and a Behringer Chorus so I'm just speaking for them, but I find that chorus after distortion has a very pleasing sound. It's like the chorus "tames" the distortion is the best way I can put it
I would love to see a video on the Eyemaster. I've been thinking about picking it up myself, but I wanna see it in action from someone who knows their stuff first.
Hey Colin, have you considered doing Joyo pedal reviews? I know you've talked about the Vintage Overdrive, but there's a boatload more. I don't know about the UK, but they're dirt cheap here in the US, so it's not like they'd be hard to come by.
I love to know how to set up the slight delay you hear in metal songs, mine never sounds right when I go into a solo, sounds like there's too much going on.
Hey Colin, you should really check out the OCD drive pedal by Fulltone. It’s the only drive pedal I’ve ever had and I don’t want anything different. You won’t be disappointed... I hope.
Can't agree with you more. I own several Overdrive and Distortion boxes and the OCD is by far my favorite. The the only pedal in my collection that comes near is the MXR Il Torino and while I love that pedal for many different situations it simply can't beat the OCD in versatility and tonality.
Collin, great show as always! How about the “Dreamscape”, it’s a great TC pedal that I own and it does so much especially with the “TonePrint”. Love the channel. Terry.
Hey Collin, I just thought of a question you would be great at answering about sound and amps. I realized today that I left my amp power cable at school, and so in order to practice I plugged straight into my soundboard/mixer. I was realizing while playing that no matter what I did with EQ, compression, or noise gate (from either my mixer or my pedals/instrument tone knobs) I really couldn't get a good sound without an amplifier/DI box. This simple concept raised an interesting question: what is it that amplifiers do with the sound (beyond EQ, boasting, and compressing)? P.S. In my case, I was playing bass guitar, and normally do a direction imput from my amp to my mixer, but the concept of the question "what do amplifiers do with the sound" should apply either way.
That H.O.F. 2 is something I've been meaning to check out. I rarely dabble in reverbs, mainly because a lot of the ones I have tried are, for lack of a better word, muddy. But the H.O.F. always seemed more flexible. I'd love to see your take on it.
O. Phillips I bought a polara just before hof2 released. I'm not sure how I would have chosen between the two if they were both out. I do have the flashback 2 though and for what it's worth it's amazing.
Hey Col? Any chance you could make a song using that Pedal? I know you don't make videos of you making music, but I think it would be cool for us to see your process. I mean, I'm sure you're just riffing, but we like your music and vids. And on that note, do you have any EPs or anything? I'd buy your music
Nice and concise vid colin, thanks. Between you and HP42 I get a really good pedal overview. Can I also just ask if there is the 2nd part of the DOD chorus 690 repair video around or hasn't it been released yet?
I haven't got around to filming the second part of that DOD repair yet, it's high on the list of priorities though. Hopefully soon we'll have an answer to if I can get it working or not.
Yeah, the app does take an age to load up and can be a little clunky. It wasnt' always that way, but the more that gets added to it the slower it seems to get.
I’ve owned one for the better part of two years now and if I’m honest it’s just ok. Maybe I’m just not a big modulation guy though (Love modulated delay/reverb but not as into direct modulations). I may have out some others though. Maybe something analog.
I think the TC pedals for the most part are fantastic if you don't know what you are looking for from an effect. The Toneprint gives you the option to try out a lot of different sounds so you can see if the effect is useful in your musical creation and what style within that effect you like most. Then you can start looking for analog pedals that fit the sound you like. There are Chorus pedals out there which will sound better, but they'll only be able to do that one particular sound. The TC stuff gives you a far wider range to experiment.
CSGuitars Fair point, I was just a little underwhelmed by it. I love tc though and I use/have used several of their products. Again though I just might not be much of a chorus guy.
I own the Corona pedal, Its a really good chorus pedal imo, but my mind almost blew up when you loaded preset via your phone into it... SINCE WHEN CAN YOU DO THAT?!?!?!?!?!?! i am on my way to bed now, but i know what i will be doing when i get home tomorrow. i wonder if it works for all TC electronic pedals since i own a TC delay as well
All the TC Toneprint range can do this. That includes all the modulations, reverbs, delays and the subnup octaver. Only the tuners and the analogue drive pedals lack this feature. I recently made some Toneprints for TC using the HOF2 and Vortex which will be available to beam from your smartphone just as soon as they release them.
Awesome. This is such an easy way to try out different tone prints, and for a pedal like the Corona which can be dialed in to so many different kind of sounds, its really just a great and easy way to play around with different chorus styles. I only played around with this for one day so far, but i will definitely be using this feature way more! And i will make sure to try your tone print for their Reverb when it comes out, and hope you wanna do one for the Corona as well :p
I have some fresh ideas in my head for builds, so don't write that one off. If I find a cool mod I'll probably make a video on it, but I have no plans at present.
There is a joy to having a tangible, physical item that gives direct feedback when you stomp on it, or twist a knob, that you just don't get from a laptop emulation. Also, ease of use is a huge factor. I'm sure I speak for many when I say I don't want to have to connect to my computer every time I play guitar. I don't want to fiddle with a mouse to change effects. I don't want to take my laptop onto a stage. It's far more convenient in many situations to have a physical floor unit that easily connects to an amplifier.
There's a reason (presumably) Colin said nothing about the tone, dude. The Corona has a computer inside, so there's no reason another computer with more horsepower can't get just as good a sound. Pedals are mainly an issue of usability.
This pedal has a new meaning in 2020
I literally bought it as a tribute to this year... and so I can always remember when I bought it.
😂
I bought it in 2019, forgot I had it, found it today and thought to myself, is this a fucking joke???!!!
Although the COVID Pedal sounds much more like a Death Metal distortion pedal than a chorus one.
This is uhhhh. Relevant
I like the way you explain how things work, It's technical enough without being over my head. I am fairly new to electric guitar and need all the information I can get, lol. I had no idea there was so much that goes into guitar tones. Thanks for being a good reliable source of that information 🤘
0:54 editing nightmare I bet 😂. That was super cool.
It wasn't as difficult as I anticipated it to be. Might do more of that in the future.
It looked so awesome!
It was helpful
Colin is a man of great skill, great hair, and great socks. Seriously though man, I've been following your channel a few years now and love every video I watch of yours. Cheers man!
I appreciate all the variations you show on each knob setting. And the verbal description of each function. Thanks.
It's really nice sounding...
It just needs more gain...
N less mids...
With EMG Peck ups
the Eiger Advocate this isn't the Dark Matter demo...
the Eiger Advocate ... more gain? It needs all the gain
Nope. With that set up, you won't be haired
Your visual description of chorus effect is incredibly helpful in this video.
Didn't expect that at the end! Had a nice wee chuckle!
Haven't seen one in a wile, but a bunch of Colin's videos have a thing at the end lol
You need to do another series like Will It Shred. That's one of the bets things to be put on youtube, I'd love to see a second one or even just a build.
I have a few ideas for ongoing series like WIS, but I sort of need to finish that one off before starting anything new. So could take a while.
CSGuitars "Will It Djent?" sounds like a better sequel to Will it Shred.
Still hoping for a guitar basics video on setting up a guitar.
I plan to revisit that series of videos this year.
I just discovered your channel and a guitar set up "how to" would be so fun and informative from you. You have a way of explaining things that doesn't make me feel like an idiot.
Thanks Colin! I have a bucket list of gear I want and before this video it just said "Chorus Pedal". Now that spot says the title of this video.
TC electronic has been killing it!
I had this pedal when I was playing out about six, seven years ago. I didn't realize they had been out for so long a lot of UA-cam videos I've looked at where over 10 years old on this. I have the mini Corona. Love that pedal.
Awesome graphics overlay at 0:54

Yup, looks like I will be buying one of these, nice tone. Also like the fact you can adjust the parameters with your PC. Cheers!
the subnup and tone print changed my freaking life.
M-m-m-myyyy Corona

Omg so here’s where corona came from 😂😂
This isn't a virus at all.
This pedal will kill the world
the pedal is toxic
Love the Corona chorus and the LCF (or whatever they are called) TonePrints. Good work Colin, keep it up
good job on this vid glad to see a new one

I always learn so much from your videos 😎 cheers
Should this be popular right now?
The video have to be burst
CoVID19
Really good man, thank you for your work
Quality content as always, thank you.
I LAV chorus! I stack them, swish n swirl gurl!
*Imma tell my kids this was the cause of the 2020 pandemic*
I’d also love to see the HOF 2 with the expression “pedal” to see what you really think of it. Seems great but hard to tell.

Do an analog vs digital chorus video, plox.
No lime wedge? You monster.
I would love to see a video on the Eyemaster. I've been thinking about picking it up myself, but I wanna see it in action from someone who knows their stuff first.
That name hasn't aged well.😬
This is selling cheap these days $50 below- is it worth getting?
It depends on whether you have any elderly folks at home.

Just one question, can you put a tap botton on it like the tc flash back 2?
nice explanation
Coruuuna!
Mountain Dew is the best drink ever made
You already reviewed the sentry how about next you review the TC electronic iron curtain
wow, this just popped up in my feed. Unfortunate name. Though I love the pedal.

Do a review on the MXR GT-OD pedal. Do you think it's a unique overdrive or another tube screamer clone?
Interesting...
But will it shred?
What’s the worse the valve Marshall in your opinion
could you review the biyang fz-10 fuzz star pedal?
Have you ever used a TS9DX and if so what are your thoughts on it?
Is this pedal usable with bass?
Excellent walk through! May I ask where you purchased those super low profile black
patch cables?
That 3rd fret inlay is messing with me. It looks like my guitars often do... with a pick stored in the strings. Good video.
On a scale of 1 to 10 where does this pedal stand?
How about a video showing how it sounds using high gain? Like Zakk Wylde or Richie Faulkner use chorus, with it on all the time?
What are you doing here Steven.LOL
Nice and concise vid colin, thanks. Between you and HP42 I get a really good pedal overview. Can I also just ask if there is the 2nd part of the DOD chorus 690 repair video around or hasn't it been released yet?

Have you tried tone print? The app seems pretty slow?! Or is it just my crap internet speed out in the sticks!
Yeah, the app does take an age to load up and can be a little clunky. It wasnt' always that way, but the more that gets added to it the slower it seems to get.
Hey, Colin! Do you happen to know Kevin "Morph" Dobie by any chance? T. Greetings from Finland. :)
I don't think you've covered Drive or Distortion from TC Electronic. You think the MojoMojo and the Dark Matter are worth doing videos on?
After you play...
You tested POSITIVE
I’ve owned one for the better part of two years now and if I’m honest it’s just ok. Maybe I’m just not a big modulation guy though (Love modulated delay/reverb but not as into direct modulations). I may have out some others though. Maybe something analog.

HOF2 next!!
Do you have to beam the tone print every time you plug your pedal?
No, it stores the last tone print settings you used.
Thanks man, keep up the good work
what is that guitar??
Let's see the Hall Of Fame 2 next!
I own the Corona pedal, Its a really good chorus pedal imo, but my mind almost blew up when you loaded preset via your phone into it... Aight
Will it ever shred?
A good pedal, but i'm pretty well satisfied with my Electro Harmonix Small Clone.
I have both and I absolutely agree with your comment. I love them both but if you are happy with one there is no real need to move to the other.
Hall of fame 2?
Hall of fame
Corona "Chorus"; Well played!
It needs more gain.
And less meds.
Slayer.
russell2937 maybe different meds...but less...?
Sorry, once a junky always a junky. Cheers!
PETCH!
Pedal is currently on sale for half off cause of pretty clear reasons and it butt ugly thing I'll grab one a have an art moment
...
I prefer the Fauci Fuzz
HEEEEEEEE
2020 the pedal is toxic
Why do people use peddles in 2018? You can install an infinite number of peddle emulators on a laptop for free almost instantly.
It's far more convenient in many situations to have a physical floor unit that easily connects to an amplifier.
because it always sounds better then using emulators. I'd rather pay $100+ and have the real deal then download some fake crap for free
Nothing will ever beat the satisfaction of standing in front of a cranked tube amp and stomping your pedals to get that tone you’ve been chasing
Live musicians can't use laptops onstage. I have all the equipment for that, but I prefer to use pedals when i'm playing live (In my case, for bass).
There's a reason (presumably) Colin said nothing about the tone, dude. The Corona has a computer inside, so there's no reason another computer with more horsepower can't get just as good a sound. Pedals are mainly an issue of usability.
