One thing that I’ve found has made a huge difference in staying consistent is to not think too hard! If I let myself think about how I don’t feel like working out, or that I really want that second helping of dinner, then I’ll cave! Being able to sort of disconnect from my thoughts and emotions and just do what I’ve gotta do has made it a lot easier to keep consistent!
For me the most helpful way to stay consistent is by tracking small activities on a calendar or workout journal. When I first started exercising, I put a sticker on my calendar every day that I did some exercise (no matter how long/short the workout was), and it was SO motivating seeing stickers day after day. This has helped me stick with (and learn to love) exercise over the last year and a half. More recently, I wanted to start eating more fruit and vegetables, so I started by simply noticing how many portions of fruit and veg I normally ate in a day and recording that number on my calendar too. I then set myself a goal of having one portion per day - the smallest goal I could think of - and recorded that on my calendar. I stuck with that goal for a long time before building up to 2, then 3, etc. A year later and I'm consistently eating way more than my five a day! Sending love and encouragement to all on this channel, I hope my tip helps you!
Self talk is definitely important while aiming for consistency: Speaking kindly to myself, I've found, is a lot more productive than beating myself up over missing a workout session the previous day. Trying to remember little wins each day and focusing on the present helps so much.
Hello Lucy 🌻 My consistency trick is to have a calendar very visible somewhere (like in the kitchen) & when I do a workout I put a big tick✔ in that days box...I like seeing the ticks mount up over time, it's such a positive reinforcement & also a "well done" to myself!😊
For staying consistent: Everyday when I wake up I put on my workout clothes, even if I don't feel like working out! Most of the days that is enough to make me workout, but some days I'm just off and don't do it... But I ALWAYS put on my workout clothes!
To help me to stay consistent is to do any prep the night before for the next day. This includes doing meal prep, setting out my workout clothes and work clothes, looking at what my workout plan is and being mindful of what my goals are. It also helps for me to listen to my body because rest days or days just to do maybe some yoga is also ok.
Everyday I write a list of things I want to do (even if they are small or stupid) and seeing the final check gives me satisfaction. I tried everyday to achieve that feeling and I try to combine it with my long-term desires and goals to have an overview of my life. Moreover I take care of myself every single day (even only few minutes) with meditation in the morning. It helps me a lot to focus for the rest of the day! I read and appreciate comments from other users, thank you all for your tips!
My top tip for consistency (though I'm not very good at it myself) is forgiveness. Being able to pick yourself up and brush yourself off after a failure, an off day etc. and forgive yourself instead of turning to self-hating thoughts. Loving yourself means accepting that sometimes we fail and just carrying on regardless
For me, the easiest way to be consistent is setting small daily goals like "ok, I will just do some yoga for at least 15 minutes a day". Most of the days I do more, but if I do only those 15 minutes, I do not feel like a failure. And it is less overwhelming.
One of the best take away from this video is consistency. Keep it simple. Also make goals and track your progress. Thank you so much. I'm really looking forward to watching your videos on my break.
What's helped me with consistency is combining new habits with older more established habits. For example, I usually watch TV before bed, so now I stretch while watching my show, which means I automatically stretch every day now
What helps me staying consistent is to talk about my goals, progress, or process with my friends, so we can motivate each other. Being able to talk about my experience on regular basis makes me see, that I'm actually doing something, even if it's small steps. I'm really excited for the rest of your videos! :)
Self-forgiveness is my key to consistency! It's ok to fail or not be perfect. The kinder you are to yourself when things are rough, the easier it is to try again
Part of consistency for me is allowing myself to regress a bit to keep the habit going. If I have built up to a 30 minute routine but feel run down one morning, I tell myself I can do 7 or 10 minutes and I'll set a timer. If I'm still exhausted when time is up, I did a little bit and listened to my need for rest. If not, I can keep going to 20 or 30 minutes. Either way it's more than zero and I made progress toward my goal 😊
I created a habit tracker and its really helped me stay consistent with all aspects of my life. "You don't have to be extreme you just have to be consistent."
For me it‘s really important that I don’t beat myself up whenever I don‘t reach a goal. Like you said, it‘s not about being perfect everyday! Knowing that every day is a new chance actually keeps me going and consistent with my workouts. Even if I can’t give 100% sometimes, I always try to do the best that I can, because I have learned to trust the process and I know that i will benefit from it in the future.
A tip how I stay consistent is to prepare for obstacles. So before I even start I think about the things that could make me fall off/give up and make a plan on how to avoid those situations/what I will do if they happen. That way I won't get discouraged or overwhelmed.
I stay consistent by allowing myself to play and have fun with my exercising time. Meaning that the days I don't feel like doing cardio or something crazy, I practice Yoga, QiGong, or other movements that keep me motivated. Loving the challenge so far, Lucy, thank you so much! 💕✨
Staying consistent: building the time to work out, eating healthy, etc, into your daily routine. If I don’t have a plan with my healthy lifestyle built in to it I’m usually doomed. Also, putting my workout clothes, socks, and shoes in a place that I can’t miss helps me because it’s a conscious choice to decide NOT to work out!
I found that setting my goal at one UA-cam exercise a day really helped. Because I had some really short workouts for days where I wasn't feeling it, but then ended up doing more anyway. It was just getting started.
What really help me the most with consistency was to keep track of the progress in my Bullet Journal and learning to enjoy the little improvements more than the end goal. After 3 weeks of not been consistent due to life, I found my self now craving the good feeling of my old routine and I'm working everyday in small steps to get back on track. :)
I’m so grateful you made this video in the series, consistency is truly my downfall, I start off strong and consistent but then some minor “inconvenience” happens and I miss a day and then I kind of fall of the wagon completely. I enjoy reading everyones tips in the comments 🙌
Thanks for the videos, Lucy, I love your content and your message. My top tip for consistency is routine. I find that if I stick to my routine - doing a workout at the same time every day, buying the same foods and cooking the same meals (within a range, of course), I avoid the stress and fear of failure that can come from over-planning (I even go to the same restaurants where I know there are healthy options that I like). I challenge myself by gradually make micro-improvements to each part of my routine as time goes on - to keep it interesting and challenging - and I also try not to deviate too much from the routine for more than a day in a row.
For consistency I find focussing on the action before the main activity is effective, ie the preparation that sets it up and makes it more likely to do. Practical actions such as getting my swimming or gym gear ready in a bag or laid out the night before if going next morning, put water bottle out and trainers by door. Or getting a delicious meal ready for after a late session. Contacting a friend to join you, setting a challenge with them, offer to walk / run with neighbour's dog etc - you don't want to let them down so that definitely keeps you accountable! Thanks for the inspiration Lucy, and Calisthenics looks amazing! Never knew there was a name for that. Been trying out some basics and handstands, and thanks for demystifying what those bars in park are for. Tried hanging from a bar last month after watching your video!
One thing that has worked for me in regards to consistency is taking it day by day, meal by meal, situation by situation. It's easy to throw the rest of the day off when you feel like you failed. You didn't exercise today? Don't beat yourself up, make sure you pick it up the next day. You broke your caloric deficit because you sneaked in one cookie? It's done, get back on the next meal. Success is not a straight line.
For me, the biggest change for me was something my favorite Yoga instructor said. Exercise is how we say I Love You to our bodies. I think any healthy habits does the same. So when I feel like skipping some movement or eating too much of something that will make me feel blah, I remember to tell my body "I LOVE YOU so I am going to take care of you".
I created a Vision Board to help me visualise daily, what my dreams and goals are and why I am doing all this work for. And discarding negative self talk. I used to really beat myself up every time I'd slip... but not anymore. I am kind and understanding to myself and this helps me much more to keep focused and consistent to reach my goals.
For me, doing my work out as soon as I get up in the morning is how I stay consistent. I like having the goal that you mentioned of saying you are just going to move my body for 30 minutes. That way I know I can decide what my workout is going to be depending on how I feel when I wake up and am not as likely to skip the workout if I am not feeling up to a big challenge.
I just want to say thank you, Lucy! You have really been kicking my butt in the best possible way for this new year. Consistency is most definitely #1. I know this sounds weird but I try to make my bed every morning before I do anything else. It establishes to me that my day has started and that I've already accomplished one thing. So if I can take the time to make my bed I can most certainly take the time to workout. Keep up the great work, Calisthenic Queen!
For me to consistency comes with the idea of just doing it and not thinking...just getting out of bed for that run or walk... and when i am in my gym clothing and starting my exercise...there is no regret. This helps me to stay consistent. Literally, I just do it!
I recently changed my approach to building consistency and adding new habits. The things you've said in the video are true! I usually make a super ambitious program for fitness and other things. This year I decided to set my goals and focus on just one or two things for 30 days. After 30 days this one thing (let's say yoga) would turn into a habit so I can start building other things on top of it such as bodyweight trainings, other workouts, etc. Realizing and implementing the step by step approach is the key I think!
You are 100% right Lucy! I started with a daily exercise goal that was so easy I couldn't even tell myself I'm too tired to do it and built up a full exercise routine over a year targeting all aspects of my fitness. And having a strong, long-term Why has kept me going. Thank you for the amazing videos!
I find that planning my time at the beginning of the week helps me to organise myself to include fitness in my daily routine, otherwise it's hard to find the time!
I watch UA-cam videos like yours, because it help me to be reminded what I want and what I need to do. It also help me to be reminded that it is not a quick fix, but hard work. Thank you Lucy.
For me I have found that because I workout better first thing in the morning, setting my alarm and putting on my gym clothes first thing has made it so much easier to stick to and create this routine. It's thanks to videos like Lucy's, as well as others that I have seen over a period of time for me to get myself in to this routine.
Not too good at it,but what I do is just trying to do whatever feels possible each and every day, if it happens that you fail- try not to beat yourself up for it, just do whatever possible on the next day. Best tip ever follow people like Lucy, hearing and seeing the issues that you are facing discussed helps more than what you can imagine.Speaking from experience.
Thank you for sharing all the tips Lucy. I love your videos. They are simple to understand and very informative. I stay consistent because I can feel the difference in the way I feel mentally and physically after I have gotten into exercising regularly. For me, body getting stronger everyday and body shape transformation --> They are bi-products of it. I am getting into the habit of exercise and diet , because I understand it's important , because only with the healthy body and mind - I get to enjoy life until my last day on earth. When I am feeling great physically and mentally - I enjoy my everyday !! That is what keeps me going.
Meal prep so I have lots of healthy lunches and dinners ready to go and I have no excuse to go for something less healthy. I’ve started incorporating the move 30mins a day, hopefully after a few weeks it will be a new habit! Consistency creates new habits! Thank you
I liked that you said be consistent. I like your Chanel. Making small attainable goals. So this week I am trying to move before I eat as I am doing some Intermittent fasting. Long term motivation has been my issue. I can be consistent for a little while , but then fall off. Thank you so much!!
My tip for staying consistent is figuring out the most essential action for what I want to achieve and then putting that on my calender and to-do-list. Basically prioritizing it so it doesn't get lost in all my daily busyness, but also making it more "official", like an appointment or a work task with myself that I can't miss.
I have my goals written down and read them every couple of days. Also, since training is the most difficult part for me, I wake up earlier and just do it, so I won't have to do it after work when I'm tired or lack of time. Thanks so much for your videos!
The thing that helps me a lot to keep going and be consistent is thinking that each day is a new opportunity and be focused on the present, enjoying the moment, and finally get conscious about my existence each day to decide for me.
You are amazing Lucy 😊 I need very much to become consistent! I just wish you could talk a bit slower. I really want to learn from you and use your experiences😇 Thanks a lot ❤️
Fantastic advice and the comments are brilliant. I find if I overthink things I end up not doing it and also if I have a overly strict routine can make me really stressed. So it’s finding a balance. Also that word failure feels like a house but really it’s just a seed that something. Amazing can bloom and remember every garden gets weeds so just clear them out. X
All of the above + finding a friend who will join you and keep you accountable/motivated. I'm terrible at being consistent with fitness goals (because I get super impatient and don't track my progress well and all of that stuff) BUT back in February a friend and I started a "30-day" handstand challenge together: Just do a handstand attempt every day and send a photo/video to each other (which is also great for tracking progress!). We're now on day 147 and I can handstand for a solid 20-30 seconds. Consistency works! :D
What helps me to be constant is preparation! Weekly meal plan, meal prep and making healthy meals and snacks to freeze so there is always something healthy to choose from. My son helps me to be consistent with working out when he cheers me on 😊
writing my one main goal and the "why" behind my goal on the bathroom mirror has helped me stay consistent and a great positive reminder to stay consistent
What helped me staying consistens was to understand that even a week of doing no workout and/or no healthy eating wasnt gonna destroy all the effort i put into my health journey until then and just letting myself start again after a "bad" period. Also always trying new kinds of sport/activity helped me allot.
She's 100% right with the breathing space thing. That is why I personally never follow schedules made by fitness influencers. The only rule I have is that every day I'm working a given muscle group. Booty on monday, abs on tuesday, etc. This gives me so much freedom because on the days I'm energetic and motivated, I choose a 40 min booty excercise on Monday, but if it's a busy Monday and I don't feel energetic, I just go for a 8 min booty excercise and I still accomplish my set goal.
Thanks so much Lucy!!! It's all about discipline ... I was just wondering how to deal with low self-esteem and fitness goals? Thanks again and wish you a wonderful day.
Making small changes will lead to being consistent over time. Be intential in changes is also important. Be consistent on positive habits over time will and results will come.
Being consistent with exercise is me coming home from work and doing a work out or a run or even a walk straight away as if I sit down I feel it un motives me as I start work very early It’s hard to do anything before. It also helps me sleep better as I used to nap after work. I still have those days where I can’t pull myself to do exercise but those are the days I probably do housework so I still keep myself moving!!
what i personally do to stay consistent is give myself something to look forward to or a reward if i finish the tasks that i need to do. also if it is in the case of exercising or eating healthy then i choose things and activities that i personally enjoy doing so that i will continue doing it because i actually enjoy doing it
Nice vid! I'm trying to remain consistent doing your ebook workouts! They're hard, but I really like the routine for someone trying to get into more body strength and mobility. I think for me, my problem has always been that I want to remain consistent for big tasks like do cardio for an hour everyday and don't actually pay attention to the smaller things I am consistent with like drinking water all the time or getting 10k steps in. When I focus and larger "go big or go home" things, I set myself up for failure because I get discouraged if I miss a day or whatever. I'm definitely working on getting out of that mentality for sure!
I recommend writing down in a journal every single day the following things: 1. What you'd like to work on/ practice that day and how you intend to do that? 2. How change in this area allows you to feel? 3. When you intend to practice that day? 4. What you are grateful for that day. Following this journaling routine has shifted my focus from setting my goals too high and failing because of that to keep constantly growing every single day even though my actions might not always be perfect. Nevertheless, I keep showing up and try my best to keep the daily promises to myself.
Remaining consistent has always been an issue for me, but like you said in the video I've been so eager to see results due to frustration at myself so I go all in! Then I become overwhelmed and I stop. I have a PT who is my consistency, im accountable to her which means I'm accountable to me. Its slow progress but progress none the less! X
Great video! 🙌 When I started working out, my main focus was not what I was doing at the gym. My goal was just going there regular. I was just building a new routine and I didn't care how long time it would take to lose my weight and get healthy. And 2 years later it still works 😊motivation is overrated, make good routines!
I have found that writing down whatever I'm trying to be consistent with helps me. Sort of like a sticker chart. I mark off my work out each day, I track what I'm eating, I even check off my showers. It helps me to see those check marks over the longer period of time.
I printed out a habit tracker and I listed out 5 habits I want to start for the month (row 15 minutes a day, take a multivitamin, eat fruits AND veggies during the day, etc). I get to highlight the box at the end of the day if I did it. I'm a sucker for color coded accountability. 😊
I can totally stand behind this! I also lost 30 kg and was pretty consistent with my weightloss then because I just didn't want to be obese anymore. I gained 15 kg in my second pregnancy (due to complications I had to be on bed rest for nearly 4 months, but still ate like I worked out 6 times/week and walked 15000 steps a day). I lost 12 kg BUT the last 3 kg are hard. Because I already look good and I just don't have the drive to cut calories. I love eating too much :D But I'm working on it. Thanks for the video!
My advice would be: prep your space in advance. I am not a habit person. I have tried many times to do something daily, even the smallest task but it never worked. Although, I have been stretching every morning and every evening for the past 20 days. I managed to stay consistant with that in two ways. The first was to promise to myself that I would not eat breakfast before stretching. And the second one (most efficient one) was to leave my yoga mat out from the night before, so when I wake up all stiff and not motivated to move my body, the space is already set up for me and I just have to get on top of my yoga mat and turn on the app. And it works wonders! 👌
Im still struggling with consistency but I found the more manageable the goal and more immediate the results the likelier I'll follow it so I've learned to make my tasks small and in the long term they end up becoming good habits
I stopped relying on motivation since is something I loose easily (anxiety), so, my tip to stay consistence is planning a schedule of your day and listening to your body. For example, I had a plan to exercise at 11 a.m and I'm supposed to do body-weight training, but I don't feel strong enough to do that, so I check what other exercise of the week I can do at 11 instead, usually I do cardio since I dance for my cardio training and is something that helps me with the endorphins, so I just dance and that's it, I've accomplished my schedule and just did something I felt more likely to do.
My motivation is my family, I have 2 small children, 6 and 2 years old. I want to show them good habits and consistency in life. And also I want to be healthy, to play with my two boys (growing kids gets really heavy). And also two be with my wife in good health for many years.
I think you mentioned it but my tip to stay consistent is to make your goal almost stupid easy. At least it seems that way at first but I feel really accomplished when I stick to those manageable goals and I have more hope throughout my journey.
Preparing my mat and sport clothes each night before bed. When I Get up in the morning I literally step foot on my mat 😆 difficult to ignore. I even prepare my water bottle.
What works best for me is to have a buddy with similar motivation. A lot of people are ready to workout but very few actually do it. And those are the ones you need to grab onto. (I mean if it works out for you that is)
Tip for practicing consistency- make each day count! It doesn’t have to be perfect, but when you focus on making today a day that is focused on habits that support your goals- every day ends up being focused and successful but without the pressure!
That’s great advice!

You are so helpful Lucy, thank you.
Keeping a tracker and writing all the benefits a feel while doing something consistently help me a lot
My top tip is making sure to put enjoyment first, because if you don't enjoy it you'll drop whatever change is made and lose progress.
its worth it , this keeps me consistance
Keeping it simple as you said, and having a long-term view of my fitness journey.
My best trick is not thinking too much and do it, speak to myself "go, do this now" and start doing it before my brain tricks me to another thing!
Setting up a chart for myself somewhere I see it multiple times a day! I track every day I do it as well as some details! It really keeps me going!
I still have those days where I can’t pull myself to do exercise but those are the days I probably do housework so I still keep myself moving!!
what i personally do to stay consistent is give myself something to look forward to or a reward if i finish the tasks that i need to do. also if it is in the case of exercising or eating healthy then i choose things and activities that i personally enjoy doing so that i will continue doing it because i actually enjoy doing it
My tip is to listen to my podcast during the 15 to 30mins I exercise. It makes it not feel like a chore at all and time flows by.
Don’t start to hard, that is my tip on staying consistent :)
To start my fitness journey and stay consistent I had to find my "Why". Finding a purpose really helped me on days I wasn't feeling motivated at all.
Thanks for sharing! 🔥💪😁
I love eating too much :D
But I'm working on it.
Thanks for the video!
My best tip is do it with a buddy. Hold each other accountable
my top tip would be the habit one - connect it to another habit and make it feel natural
Thank you so much 😇
My advice would be: prep your space in advance.
Great video!
I do my workout as the first thing in the morning. Then i will never mis out and i am not likely to overthink it. It just comes natural
Same thing with personal finance investing: Compound interest.
My motivation is my family, I have 2 small children, 6 and 2 years old. I want to show them good habits and consistency in life. And also I want to be healthy, to play with my two boys (growing kids gets really heavy). And also two be with my wife in good health for many years.
Dang this was hard for the 7th day!!! Did the best I could, ready to see my strength grow and hopefully one day this is easy.
I think you mentioned it but my tip to stay consistent is to make your goal almost stupid easy. At least it seems that way at first but I feel really accomplished when I stick to those manageable goals and I have more hope throughout my journey.
I LOVE this! 😍🙌🏽💛
Having told my boyfriend and my friends that I want to get fit helps me with my consistency, if one day I want results to show!
I like to tell my partner and friends about my goals. It makes me feel more committed.
Preparing my mat and sport clothes each night before bed. When I Get up in the morning I literally step foot on my mat 😆 difficult to ignore. I even prepare my water bottle.
My ways are I make a list of chores the night before. Workout is on that list. Not allowed to play on my phone until the list is completed ✅
I find that the smaller I can break down a goal the easier it is to remain consistent.
I like you very much ! thank you for staying positive and motivated so you can up lift those who are so down during this pandemic
