G'day Everyone, we were pumping the sea sickness tablets into us on that trip, I can tell ya! Anyway, fishing and gardening are my two biggest passions (besides family and friends), and I'm excited to bring you fishing content once again. There is a surprising amount of crossover between fishing and food gardening, so working the two into each other should be a ton of fun! Thanks for your patience and support... Get out there! Cheers :)
Do you do any hunting as well? Might be an ok playlist on here to (probably not enough for a seperate channel, but I’d be keen to see it here) Can you hunt roo’s? If not, what species are huntable in Oz! Then, meals with your own hunted meat and grown veg :)

It's so refreshing to see a fishing channel, taking this down to earth approach. It's going to be fun watching, as you become more and more experienced along the way. Sooner or later, those bigger fish will come and I hope we might even see some of them cooked up, with your home grown vegetables and salads. Enjoy and safe boating.

G'day Mark, Long time fan from your gardening channel, love the fact you're doing a fishing channel too. At the end of the say there really is nothing quite like a fully self sourced meal, both the protein and the salads/veg. I'm a keen fisherman too and like you suffer sea-sickness...big time. I'm not sure how it works for you but I find Kwells dries out the mouth and makes me tired, so I looked into alternatives and Paul Worsteling from I-Fish put up a FB post about him using scopolamine hydrobromide gel. The stuff is magic!
I can't wait to get out on the water again. Winters here in New England (Massachusetts) is to darn long. My brother in law just picked up a new 30' boat and I imagine we'll be out on it 4-5 times a week. Putting up a couple new 4x8 foot raised beds, relocating 8 blueberry bushes I planted last summer to close to a fence (still less than 2' tall) Lots to do in a short time. Got a bunch of seedlings started covering my kitchen table right now on a 4' heat mat, ugh time is moving much to quickly. Still need to restring a few reels and get my tackle set up. Yet I can't stop watching your channel. Hope you land a lot of nice fish this season and looking forward to more videos. Till then may you always have tight lines and good times!
Good to see you back! Just a pointer I learned from experience: If your live bait is dying off prematurely, it´s likely because the well is too high. That and too little water in the well creates a slosh that really damages the baities. Cheers!
very very good point..nobody ever mentions this, it's not just Stabi's either, having a high live bait tank is fine in a flat calm, but it's much better down low
Hey guys, well done on the video! Good to see you guys filming your adventures and learning from your time on the water 👍🎣 it was cool to see you pop my UA-cam channel up at the end too! 😁 Just a tip for you- if you’re at the beacons and your bait jigs are getting bitten off like that, it’s school mackerel! They’re most likely eating your livies on the way up and snipping you off! If you cast some chrome slugs, let them sink, and then wind them back in fast, you’ll hook up! Or even float a pilchard down on gang hooks. They’re a tasty feed and fun fight! Tight lines guys, keep up the videos 👍
Hey Will, you are slaying it out there off the GC! Thanks for the tip on the school mackerel - we will be better prepared next time and do what you suggest to hopefully land one of those buggers. Cheers :)
I used to fish 5 to 7 days a week before I took gardening more seriously, now fishing only once or twice per week, so, it makes me really happy that you're an angler too.

Hot tip on getting pounded by swell... trim your motor up a touch to keep the bow from slapping and ploughing. Not a huge amount, get a feel for it. Makes an amazing difference.
When driving in slop like you were, stabicrafts like to be driven hard and reasonably fast. Next time the wind and swell kicks up punch abit hard and you will be surprised at how well it can handle a sloppy sea
I can't wait to see more videos! So I can't wait to see more about what you've learned about fishing with the lads. Get out there!
Great to see you back on the water Mark and "enjoying yourself" lol I can relate to your wavy trip back so well !! It often blows up like that on the eastern end of Lake Ontario. Especially when I'm out salmon fishing lol 👍🐟👍
Hey Mark. I did not know you had a fishing channel. Have been watching and learning gardening from you for a few years now. We have just bought a boat and can’t wait to go fishing so will watch with interest your vids. All the best and thank you.
Glad to see you're back. Looking good. Keep yourself in your family safe out there and take care. Have a good day. Talk to you later my friend. 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️😎😎😎
Keen to see how your boating journey progresses. I like the no bullshit approach, too many channels these days are so managed and curated that they miss the stuff in between catching fish
You might consider a mobile NVR with a solid state hard drive(s) in it and then run cameras off PoE from the NVR. Hikvision makes some nice NVRs like this and the cameras are great. Throwing that out as an option for the recordings. Looking forward to more fishing!!
@@selfsuffishingme My pleasure. If you need any help or just an opinion from someone who heavily works in the surveillance field - I'll be happy to chime in or provide thoughts on what's worked for me and what hasn't. The PoE digital IP cameras are what your modern sport fisherman+ level boats use due to being able to record days or weeks of footage.
Just a tip for a beginner, boat ramp/launch ettiquite is important. Turn your lights off while backing down the ramp as not to blind others, park out of the way to get everything ready before launching as not to hold others up and block the ramp etc. Great videos, neat boat.
Also, if you're getting bit off behind the hook, research "stinger hook" basically you attach a small treble hook to the J hook on your rig with a short piece of wire so that it dangles around the tail of the bait, you can even put on of the hooks on the treble into the fish near the tail
G’day Mark. A great way to try and learn new methods when starting out, is to invite mates out for the day who can share a few tips and tricks. I’ve been fishing my whole life and am still learning new stuff when I go out fishing with people, while sharing new things with them at the same time. Keep up the entertainment 👍

I think I saw you in person semi-recently and you had your Self Sufficient Me shirt on. I'd love a Surtees or Stabicraft next (with a Yamaha of course)... let me know if you ever want to sell, hard to beat the safety element of Stabi
Hahaha the shot of you with your cheeks puffed out looks like you are ready to start chumming the water, lol. I grew up on the ocean since I was 4. The waves I seen looks like our calmest waters here in New England. So glad you purchased the best pleasure boat ever constructed. I'm very jealous of you. I got to drool on a bright orange one here. I hope we get to see a lot more of it and am looking forward to watching your fishing trips. Can you please show us all the fish you catch up close and tell us more about them. We don't have any of the species like you have. We are mostly striped bass, haddock, flounder and cod and a few other species. Were you trolling really fast or was that the way the camera made it look? When we troll for striped bass it's usually at around 5-10 mph. All depends on the species. Anyways it's nice to see you on the water and bonding with your boys. They must absolutely love it. Be safe out there!
Drift fishing is a really good way , find the current turn the engine off and drift with small live bait, fish is able to do it thing and your able to relax and you can have more lines spread over the boat. You need larger fish to troll at the speeds your going looking at the wash the motor is creating.
Happy to see that you're enjoying time on the water and had a chance to make a video. Not sure if you've tried sabiki rigs or not, but they work great for bait fishing, especially when tipped with a bit of squid. Cheers.
I was wondering what happened with the channel. Im glad you are enjoying the boat and going out fishing. Thanks for sharing this with your audience. Greetings from Costa Rica🇨🇷🇳🇱😉👍
I am really keen to see more fishing videos, I am an intermediate fisherman, I just love watching other fishos sharing a tip or two always helps. Cheers mate on the great content
If this is for a general interest audience, perhaps you could explain terms like livies, perlies and trolling as you go through. If the channel is just for avid fisherman, that no worries that's ok too.
Watched ur gardening channel for ages an loved this vid an now have subd👍 Fellow local here from Mooloolaba an fish off the coast here when it’s not blowing 30 knots!! Luv the boat so now will go back an watch ur review vid and look forward to seeing heaps more👍👍👍👍

Heading outside always go on an empty stomach Mark.... at most have some dry toast. Try to get Slimmies not yellow tail (Yakkas).... much better baits. Also speak to someone about what transducer you have for your sounder, and what you can get to upgrade it... more powerful transducer will give you a clearer and more detailed image. All the best and tight lines boys👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing this 1850 boat experiences, still deciding on whether getting 1550, 1650 or 1850 for usa ocean costal fishing. 1850 is def a better choice, but price tag is a little too much.
Great stuff. I have a fishing channel and do the garden stuff on the side. You have a self sufficient garden channel so it's fun seeing you enter our territory lol. Cheers from 🇨🇦
G'day Dave, I'm not going to sugarcoat it because, for us getting out on a boat that we controlled was pretty daunting. What helped was how we took baby steps in getting the boat in the water at the ramp and practising this on quiet days. Then, only venturing out into the passage, then to our first beacon a mile offshore, fishing in the bay, finally working up to inshore/offshore etc. Easy does it, but you soon will grow in confidence, and the boating experience only improves! Cheers :)
@@selfsuffishingme 40 years ago when I first got my boat license I skied the Hawkesbury River, but now at almost 70 I have difficulty just climbing in the boat, so handling it and navigating around all the sandbanks in the Great Sandy Straight is what I find the most daunting. Thanks for your reply. :)
Hi mate will be watching, tylersreelfishing just done a great video on how to film fishing also. I wish i had all that info when i started playing around videoing a few trips. To get good audio you really need to have an external recorder with lav mic and sync up in post, extra steps but worth it.
G'day mate, thanks for the tip and I've just watched Tyler's video - very good info! Yes, I was thinking of a better external recorder to sync up in post - good one. Cheers :)
Awesome! Fishing is my project for this year. It’s dawned on me that I haven’t properly taken my kids and both are teenagers 😳. Give a kid a fish and they can eat for the day. Teach a kid to fish and they can eat for a lifetime. 😉
Gardening pays off by the looks of that boat! You probably already read up on it but if you can't help getting sea sick and the travel calm pills do bugger all then you could give compounding chemists a go.. They can make you stronger or better suited sea sickness tablets which might help you. Then again it might just fade away after more time on the water. I imagine you'll be able to use the left over fish frames for compost too.
Mark, just a comment from someone who has been hunting, fishing and growing food for > 60 years. If you want to keep the "self sufficiency" theme pure than calculate how many kilos of (usable) fish you have caught per litres of fuel used. If you do, where and the way you fish will change. Just as you have measured and changed your gardening systems. All the best with your venture.
You may not be looking to make a learning project out of it, but I would rather learn from somebody making mistakes along the way, as well as successes. I learn more.
Holy Heka. Didn't know you were this local. I'm on Bribie and fishing was my life before some mental health issues from a work accident and the legal process. Yeah ya did that sesh wrong. There's lot's of big easy fish to catch just off the marina if you think outside the box. I'm trying to grow food in a tight yard environment. We could swap tips. Even go for a run?
LOL, I caught a fish sooo big it pulled me right over the side of the boat. I would have been a goner if i didnt grab the anchor line. As i climbed back into the boat the fish broke the line. Im telling you it was massive, it had to be to pull me over. I thought it was all on video but the battery's went dead.
I remember sleeping in when I was supposed to go to Bundeberg for K86, got 7 days ROPS. God I hated dixie bashing in the Sargents mess, but then again I was only going to be dixie bashing up there aswell.

Watched ur gardening channel for ages an loved this vid an now have subd👍
Fellow local here from Mooloolaba an fish off the coast here when it’s not blowing 30 knots!!
Luv the boat so now will go back an watch ur review vid and look forward to seeing heaps more👍👍👍👍
G'day and thank you! Yeah, I do wish we could get more days on the water without the Coral Sea blowing up... Hopefully, it will be better this year :)
@@selfsuffishingme yep just finished some mods on my boat so it’s back in the water now so the crappy weather is my fault sorry bout that😁
Hey mate if u want pm me and I can give u some gd gps marks fairly close off Mooloolaba if u keep them to urself👍👍
New to the channel I like what you’re about looking forward to following your journey
Thank you for sharing this 1850 boat experiences, still deciding on whether getting 1550, 1650 or 1850 for usa ocean costal fishing. 1850 is def a better choice, but price tag is a little too much.
have just found thischannel......follow you on your garden channel.......much love from Western Australia ♥♥
G'day Jill and much love back! Thanks and cheers :)
Hey Mark! If you only used your combat experience in the Navy instead of the Army, I wouldn't have to watch this video. Love your work!
Your newest subscriber here, looking forward to sharing your future adventures.
Wooohoooo, the fishing channel is back......Yeppers! :)
Whoo-hoo..Fishing and Gardening..2 of my favorite subjects. 😄😄
Great stuff. I have a fishing channel and do the garden stuff on the side. You have a self sufficient garden channel so it's fun seeing you enter our territory lol. Cheers from 🇨🇦
G'day, Mark! Looks like you had an awesome wonderful time fishing! Have a blessed week!
I’ve been waiting for this moment since you created this channel!
God bless you Mark, get into it!
Mate I didn't know you had a fishing channel. Been watching your gardening videos for ages 😅
Have waited forever for an episode of this new chanel great keep them coming.
I was thinking how does this channel only have 9k subscribers... then I realized self su-fishing. Well played lol
Thanks so much for this. I just brought a boat and have no bloody idea what the hell I’m doing. Really looking forward to watching your episodes.
😁 Godd stuff Paul! Cheers mate :)
Absolutely love your gardening channel and I am dead set keen for this new venture 👌 subscribed 🍻
Nice boat and I like the concept of your channel.
I just moved to the Great Sandy Straight, bought a boat and yet to take it out. Watching your vids to get some insight before taking the plunge.
Cheers :)
I don’t believe it!! I’ve been waiting a whole year for an upload on this channel 🤙🏻 Can’t wait for more content….and less sickness 😅
Great episode! Much love from fellow creators in tassie 😊 I’d love to join you for a trip!
Pretty much somes up fishing 🎣 😊 sick stabi for shizzle
Simrads rule 👍
Nice work gents. Love the facial expression.
Really excited to see what you have coming up. Been following you since you launched and forgot about the channel until today!
Love the new channel Mark, I’m so excited for the new channel
Great start James and Bear....look forward to seeing more great content.
Thanks John!!! 👍😉
I remember sleeping in when I was supposed to go to Bundeberg for K86, got 7 days ROPS. God I hated dixie bashing in the Sargents mess, but then again I was only going to be dixie bashing up there aswell.
#Different# keep up the grouse work ✔️💯 MATEY 👍. Should have used a garden rake to bring the fish 🐟 In😂🤣
