I upgraded from 4gb ram to 16gb, had 2 slots. Bootup was faster but still slow (was 9 minutes down to 3). 16gb made the laptop more able to use more demanding software.
I then upgraded the 1 tb HDD to a 500gb SSD, it was then like a totally deferent computer. Boots in 20 seconds including windows log in and displaying desktop. Programs open instantly, very happy.
If the computer is 5 years old it would be advisable to renew the cmos battery on the underside of the motherboard while you have access to it.

It took the 16? I read elsewhere that it wouldn't post on 16GB only 8. I'd like to beef this one up.

Thank you for this video. I followed your instructions and installed a new SSD drive and upgraded the RAM. Worked perfectly when I booted up. I was left with two little screws which I must have taken out from somewhere but they didn't seem to affect the operation. What a ridiculous design though to have to do all this, especially installing the RAM chip.

Agreed. I had a few laptops where they had little "doors" on the bottom. Two screws and you could swap them out. I guess they consider these laptops disposable .

Thanks to this video I was able to upgrade the RAM on my ES1-571 without any problem or getting stuck. The difference is that my laptop had two slots so I was able to add memory.

Just an update....my variant (Acer Aspire ES1-571-562B) does have 2 x memory slots and now has 16GB of crucial Ram installed.

I have an ES1-512. Be aware that on that one Acer has a couple of screws holding the DVD player in place - you have to open the case and remove them to remove the DVD player.

I have one one these, it's been so slow since day 1, I was hoping to delete a lot of stuff but it does not seem to speed up by much!
Install a 2.5 SSD. It will work fast.

It helped me very much, as I have upgraded the RAM in an ES1-531 from 4GB to 8GB
I also cleaned the unit out, the fan etc and also while I was inside, I replaced the thermal paste on the processor with Arctic MX-4.

I feel like, considering how upgradable this laptop is, it's not very user friendly to get into. I have a few other laptops including another Acer, and this is by far the most complex to get into, so this video is very very useful. Also, I know other people have pointed out, but my model has two ram slots. I'm guessing it's pretty much exactly the same process apart from that?

I kinda have the same laptop expect it's a amd a4 version without the number pad and has 2 ram slots. I feel this is one of the most disgusting design for a laptop.

I lifted up the right and bottom part of the case but on the left the USB and sd card reader goes up with the case

Yes it will work very fast. But, we suggest you to install SSD which will make it work 5X better.

Nice tutorial video. When I attempted to remove the ribbon cable (shown at ~3:30,) a small thin black plastic strip (size 32.5 x 3 x 1 mm) fell off but does not look broken. Can this be put back when reconnecting the ribbon cable?

Hi, extreme long shot here, but the black plastic clip that retains the larger ribbon cable in place, notches on both ends mentioned at 9:50-10.00 just broke on a ES1-531 I'm working on. Any ideas on how to replace or otherwise get the cable to stay in place please? Thanks!

before putting firecrackers on the laptop, please install a solid state drive along with the RAM upgrade. I can assure you will have a firecracking performance. please keep us posted
CAUTION! He failed to mention that if you don't first have recovery media that either came with your computer or that you created to restore the OS onto your SSD (BEFORE puttingg in the new SSD), when you put in the new SSD and turn on your computer, it will say "No Bootable Device" and you will have to open it up again and put your old HDD back in and close it back up, turn it on, and create the recovery media on a stick. Then put back the new SSD and the computer will boot off of that media and provide options for restoring the OS onto your SSD. During the recovery process, the SSD will automatically be partitioned, formatted and made bootable.
This vid is about the hardware aspect and not the software. Someone might be upgrading and tossing on LINUX

Isn't it a bad idea to use a magnetic screwdriver ?
A magnetic screwdriver of that size doesn't have enough force to do any damage. Everything internal has some shielding anyways.
Nice video but I think acer is ridiculous that you have to open the laptop to a full stripdown just to replace memory and a hard drive, I habe a sony vaio too and you habe slots on the base to add ram amd a hard drive

Hi I hope you can advise when I turned on my acer laptop E1 523 model it had a blue screen bios. I tried all the settings but its not booting. I think the hard drive may have gone and if I replace the hard drive then try to upload with a usb stick is there any else I need to do. If you put a new hard drive will this clean the memory. Please help I have never done this before and could you let me know what I need to do to get it working thanks J

Thanks for this tutorial, I have an ES1-571 and with the crucial uk scan tool it reports that there are 2 slots available for Ram, up to 16GB..? same with Speccy and CPUID
I was surprised to see yours only having 1 slot? perhaps there are variants of the ES1-571?
Guess I wont know for sure until I open my case and I agree it seems a horribly difficult upgrade just to install RAM. Dont Acer want people to upgrade?
+BrigadierGraham I strongly feel there might be another slot for corei3 variants ,but the motherboard when opened did not show space for another slot. I hope I am wrong on this one.
