I grew up listening to my dad sing this song in English. He was a medic for the Allies during the second world war. Once in awhile, my mom would join him. She grew up and lived in the Netherlands. Very touched when I heard the choir sing this at the Comox Air Show this weekend.
I like this song and the girl who appears in the still is beautiful. My Father said a lot of ex German servicemen he met after the war used to sing this song. Nice to hear.
I was a small boy during WW2, I lived in the South of England during the frequent bombing by the Luftwaffe, and my family survived the frequent bombing, like asking for shelter in an air raid on the way home from school. What I see in retrospect is the wonderful young men whether British or German being sacrificed to one or another opposing governments. Lili Marlene was the sad truth sang by each warring sides. I salute the men of both sides, bless 'em all! Grownup small boy.
+movie eccles Well said. My mother, who was 12-14years old , during the occupation of Denmark, told me , my grand father(born 1900) had some low key illegal printing of flyers, activities. A commandant once came to their house,to interrogate my grand father-nothing further happened to him.Yet the private german soldiers,my mother told, walked through the streets,singing-and were actually were friendly to the people. I suppose it was a stange mix of good and bad ppl, of fanatics and innocent boys.

I first Heard this song on a war movie about WWII. It was before my time as I was born in 1946 but I liked the song and now can hear it anytime I please now I found it and know what it's name is. Great, even if I do not speak German.
I'm in tears listening to this song. No one wins at war. Absolutely no one. My wish is for our fellow human beings live in peace with each other. Spread love, not war, as the saying goes. Easier said than done, I know. But worth a try.
My dad would turn the volume down on the radio when this song played because it reminded my mom of her dad who was killed during the war. To this day, I can not listen to it without revisiting those childhood memories and my parents' sad and grim faces....

Let's meet again in the lantern's shine

Outside the barracks
By the corner light
I'll always stand and wait for you at night
We will create a world for two
I'll wait for you, the whole night through
For you, Lili Marleen
For you, Lili Marleen
Bugler, tonight, don't play the call to arms
I want another evening with her charms
Then we will say goodbye and part
I'll always keep you in my heart
With me, Lili Marleen
With me, Lili Marleen
Give me a rose to show how much you care
Tie to the stem a lock of golden hair
Surely tomorrow, you'll feel blue
But then will come a love that's new
For you, Lili Marleen
For you, Lili Marleen
When we are marching in the mud and cold
And when my pack seems more than I can hold
My love for you renews my might
I'm warm again, my pack is light
It's you, Lili Marleen
It's you, Lili Marleen
My love for you renews my might
I'm warm again, my pack is light
It's you, Lili Marleen
It's you, Lili Marleen
