Given the time, effort and expense of just getting to MV, I found that reserving a tribal guide for a dedicated photo tour was well worth the relatively nominal cost. We started at dawn and spent about 4 hours traveling through the tribal areas not accessible from the public tour road. The guide provided the vehicle and drove, which was required for the off road areas we accessed. If you want the classic "kitch" photo, the local hotel (Goulding's) used to hire a tribal member to dress up every day like a chief and sit on his horse atop John Ford Point, staring into the distance, so its guests on their bus tour could take his picture from the parking lot. If you're in the parking lot ....
Wonderful photos, that place is so beautiful, I was there a few years ago and took the tour with a Navajo guide, he was very nice and a lot of stories, thank you. .
We are loving this series, thank you so much! We live in the west and are making our way around. Great to be inspired and learn too! We had a few chuckles on “butts”. Appreciate all the helpful comments too!!
I'm heading there this weekend. Doing a 4 day guided photo workshop so I"m hoping to get some great shots. Thanks for the ideas. I like the long exposure shots. Also, appreciate the tips with the nice foregrounds. Thanks for posting this series!
I had one of my all-time most-amazing days of photography here a few years ago. It's absolutely worth it to hire a guide and see the less-traveled areas. Carl Phillips was my guide, for morning and late-afternoon sessions (mid-day break for lunch and a nap), and knew when to be where for the light. It was very special, and not just for the photography. Also, Goulding's Lodge isn't inexpensive but very much worth it.
Stunning images! Thank you for sharing! My son and I will be there next week! As I listened to you, your voice reminded me of my F1 hero Michael Schumacher! I miss seeing him at the tracks and hope he recovers.
Peter, Thank you for all that you have created here, exceptional work and very much appreciated. I plan to review your entire series, with pleasure... Again, thank you and many Blessings! The PhotogDog (Kent)
Was down there just last month. Seeing your pictures brings back fresh memories. It's an amazing place. Will share some photos soon on my Instagram account.
Took a while to be able to comment. Great job on the composites. It would be really neat to actually see the northern lights. I just got my videos uploaded from 2 weeks ago and I cant compete. Awesome place! Top-notch video as always.
Thanks Rob! No I sadly don't have any plans for that. Most of these travels I pay myself and only a few parts of them are payed by working for someone or I get a discount for making a video here or there. NZ would be a huge expense even though I would love to visit :)
That's true, the industry standard these days are 35mm. I don't want to "spam" info all over the pictures, so people having an APS-C sized sensor has to do those calculations themselves ;)
Very beautiful photos. I’m going there soon. No big deal but just an FYI, the word butte is pronounced like beaut in beautiful, not like the body part.
Nice work. One correction, the word Butte is pronounced with a long U sound. So it sounds like B-you-t. People could get the wrong idea if you told them you went there to photograph butts. :-)
fede billeder! når du skriver day/night comp. hvad mener du så? jeg er med på at det er et foto ved dagslys og er foto om natten, men hvordan er de mixet sammen?
Great video, as always. BTW, "butte" is pronounced like the first syllable of "beaut-iful". Don't be embarrassed -- the first time I saw that word I pronounced it "butty". Being American can do that. ;)
Hehe -- I once pronounced "La Jolla" phonetically. My friend from California laughed until he turned blue. (It's pronounced La Hoya.) It's what happens when one learns through reading -- that's why I never pick on people for pronunciation.
By the way, while I love these wide vistas, have you considered doing a telephoto landscape video? It gets into tutorial territory, which you may not be interested in, but I (and many others) have used too-wide lenses trying to get the grand panorama, only to find we have included a bunch of distracting 'stuff'. I see you know to not go too wide (by your use of zooms), and it would be good to see examples of recognizing when to use telephotos to 'get past' the scrub brush and power lines.
Mads, I have been to this location many times. At the time I photographed monument Valley I was living in Denver CO. It was about an 8 hour Drive. Well worth every mile. Your work is stunning. Mike Romano. AMBIENTIMAGERY.COM

I'm still an amateur photographer, but you inspire me with your gorgeous photos to try and take beautiful landscape pictures as well.
I'm very happy to hear that Domenico! Just keep shooting :)
Stunning images! Thank you for sharing! My son and I will be there next week! As I listened to you, your voice reminded me of my F1 hero Michael Schumacher! I miss seeing him at the tracks and hope he recovers.

nice photography! Where was your focused on the Forrest Gump point?
Great video again Mads, well done. Do you have any plans to come to New Zealand?
Thanks Rob! No I sadly don't have any plans for that. Most of these travels I pay myself and only a few parts of them are payed by working for someone or I get a discount for making a video here or there. NZ would be a huge expense even though I would love to visit :)
Very informative dude, thanks!
Very nice work but if you say how many mm lens you need its different with an APS-C sensor..🤔
That's true, the industry standard these days are 35mm. I don't want to "spam" info all over the pictures, so people having an APS-C sized sensor has to do those calculations themselves ;)
Just discovered your channel. Great stuff! What's the music in this epislde? Very soothing!
Thanks Kevin :) It's Alexander Hitchens - New Horizons. It also has another name, but I don't remember.
Very beautiful photos. I’m going there soon. No big deal but just an FYI, the word butte is pronounced like beaut in beautiful, not like the body part.

Haha true! Good to know ;)
took me 5 mins.... but I paused I on your little photo bomb at 4.01mins ha ha !!
Haha Joshua! :D Haven't even done that myself :P
Mads, whats the name of the intro music and where can I get it ?>
It's a custom made piece, so you can't get it. It's called Bravey and is written by Alexander Hitchens :)
thank you for replying Mads ,,, how were you able to obtain it since its custom made? you must have connections :)
What's the music from the intro?
fede billeder! når du skriver day/night comp. hvad mener du så? jeg er med på at det er et foto ved dagslys og er foto om natten, men hvordan er de mixet sammen?
De er mixet sammen i photoshop :)
Great video, as always. BTW, "butte" is pronounced like the first syllable of "beaut-iful". Don't be embarrassed -- the first time I saw that word I pronounced it "butty". Being American can do that. ;)
Thank you very much Eric! Hehe yeah, someone else mentioned it - I also screwed up Tucson city :P
