  • Crime in Alice Springs has hit boiling point recently following riots in the CBD. An emergency youth curfew has been put in place and 60 extra police sent to the city. Alice Springs has long struggled with youth crime. Back in 2015, a community vigilante group was trying to combat the problem, but how would it work? Would it work without community support? And what would residents think of the method now? This doco is from the Feed archives - from 2015.

I remember Michael Gunner, back in 2015/2016, telling us all how Labor had solutions to mitigate the problems in Alice Springs and remote communities. I sit here now, some nine years later, and wonder when they are going to start applying those solutions.

People want outcomes, and all the touchy-feely stuff of the last few years hasn't worked. If vigilantes of some kind can deliver, then let them go for it. Let's be honest, nobody has a better answer.

Didn't you want to post some current journalism @SBS The Feed? Seems not much has changed in 9 years.

Hey there @TradieTrev, we’ve released many docos over the last 12 months, including one that won a Walkley - Australia’s most prestigious journalism prize - in October. We are working in a different digital landscape to nine years ago, and with a tighter team - you can see regular short-form content from us on our Instagram and TikTok profiles, and we publish new articles every week on the Feed website. While the team is producing and shooting new docos, we are releasing some archival content that is interesting to look back on. Hope that helps 🙂

How many people are engaging in the youth through art, music, mechanics, fashion (don't laugh), enabling the youth to appreciate woodworking, blacksmithing, gardening, or any other pursuit worth the effort, how about sport, fun, fitness, or fin politics. If people want change, engage in something other than disorder and vandalism. $0.02

The Spaniard on you tube probably made things worse, and could be responsable for inciting violence in Alice Springs & if so should at least say sorry .I hope he pay"s for all the damages that may have resulted from his stupid videos on You tube.

It's not the kid's fault. What are the officials and adults doing wrong is the question.
