    Owners knew this was coming. Its a pass heavy game. They reset the market on running backs so they can pay off the overpaying they've done on WRs. I have no evidence for this. I just started saying it. It sounds pretty good. I think it's worth repeating.

  • @darkhobo
    @darkhobo 15 годин тому +55

    It really shouldn't be a surprise. Everyone last year was complaining about how passing is dead, everyone is running a 2 high safeties.
    Anyone with even a passing understanding of football strategy knows, if they start playing deep, you run the ball. Of course RBs are gonna make a come back after everyone starts dropping their safeties.
    And passing will make a come back when Safeties start being used in the run game.
    That's the game. That's the Xs and Os

    • @JoshuaRadford-w7d
      @JoshuaRadford-w7d 14 годин тому +5

      I think something else that is actually novel but still somewhat of a throwback is the success of splitting up the running game.
      Jahmyr Gibbs & David Montgomery, Saquon Barkley & Jalen Hurts, Derrick Henry & Lamar Jackson.
      They all have discovered that you can combat the short shelf-life of your runners and create a more dynamic offense by splitting the reps. This used to sort of exist with fullbacks and halfbacks, but the same principle has re-evolved.

      I'd like to see a team draft, sign, or otherwise acquire two shutdown corners and see if they can bring back the Grits Blitz. The '77 Falcons could've outfoxed Don Coryell if they'd been able to cover those two wide receivers in Coryell's anti-blitzing scheme man-to-man.

    Don't let this resurgence fool you brothers. These big 3 running backs were all ultra talented players dragging their awful teams (raiders, giants, and titans) with them. Now they're on teams that complement them instead of force them to carry the team (packers, eagles, and ravens) so they don't get hurt as often and do better overall. With saquon especially, the giants scheme had him playing between the tackles more as a power back, instead of shifting him to the outside where he can make use of the open space. Running backs themselves aren't making a comeback, we're finally just seeing great ones get to play on good teams who don't force them into bad situations.

    I have Gibbs and Jacobs on my fantasy team and it's been so great, I also have Chase at WR who was my first round pick who I took over Jefferson and Lamb. Im having one of the best fantasy seasons Ive ever had.

    A big factor is the change in the nature of defensive backs and defensive preparations in practice. The heavy passing game caused a switch to lighter, speedier backs. Tackling became a secondary consideration. Add to this the increased length of the season, and teams do not conduct live tackling drills nearly as much as the once did, in order to minimize chances for injuries in practice. DBs and defenders in general are worse at tackling now, and talented RBs are taking advantage.

    The Lions don’t need to baby and preserve our running back for the post season, because we have two. And in my opinion, both Sonic and Knuckles are better than Barkley or Henry. Thats why the Lombardi will be traveling down Woodward Ave. at 5 MPH in February. 🦁🏈🏆
    EDIT: JG for MVP!!!

    It’s not just Jeanty either this class that is considered relatively weak in QB and WR is loaded at RB Jeanty, Hampton and Cam Scattabo are all guys that can come right into the NFL and make the teams that draft them exponentially better right away

    Najee has hardly justified his 1st round selection.... he has zero vision. If he had better vision he'd be d henry level. But 1k yard in a season isn't the accomplishment it use to be that's all he has to hang his hat on. Exactly the reason we aren't picking up the 5th year

    but one thing i can't get past is how he says "20 ott 23" instead of just saying 2023 like a normal person.... there is literally no reason whatsoever to jam an awkward "ott" in the middle of saying what year it is/was, please reconsider your choices Brandon! Love you

    I've missed the days when backs were a big deal. I'm a Giants fan, and I was pissed at how Saquon was treated at the end. I hate Philly, but I really hope he runs all over NY and breaks the all-time record against them.

  • @leonb2637

    Rule changes, that need a more balanced offense, many defenses catching on to controlling WR's meant more opportunities for rushes. We have also seen some RB's become short field receivers, a dual threat. Barkley is also lucky so far as to injuries that hurt him and the Giants when with them.

    The league is cyclical when teams started emphasizing the passing game defenses had to adjust pass rush and linebackers that could drop in coverage were prioritized, speed came more important than size. Defensive front players got smaller and faster so Offenses are reverting to more run heavy schemes to take advantage of that fact
