Congrats on making it to 4k Brandon🔥👏🔥,ok
Owners knew this was coming. Its a pass heavy game. They reset the market on running backs so they can pay off the overpaying they've done on WRs. I have no evidence for this. I just started saying it. It sounds pretty good. I think it's worth repeating.
Ur right, since when the fuck did we forget about RB’s owners are probably bored now lmao. As a eagles fan, thank you giants 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🦅🦅🦅🦅
Can burger King Lenny return now? 😂
@@kevinuchiha6830 I'm only familiar with cheese burger Lacey
@@Taquito_Rat oh dang, forgot about cheese burger Lacy too. The food monsters Lacy and Fournette would be unstoppable

@ThatsGoodSports why didn't you do that?
Facts
This would have been so good!
Remember when the Lions were ridiculed for picking Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th overall pick😬😬🦁
But what has he done?
@@ReaperStrikerYT Go over 1k scrimmage yards his rookie year when he didn't even start, make a pro bowl, rush for over 1,000 yards in 14 games in his first year starting and sharing a backfield with another top 15 RB. Is that enough?
@@ReaperStrikerYTDo you not watch football lmfao
even as a lions fan i thought it was bad but im happy that i was the wrong.
@@ReaperStrikerYTYou're trolling. And also in need of a girlfriend.
Saquon showed that not only are running backs a valuable part of any offense but that they can also be the most valuable player on a team
He showed that on giants last year… and the year before that
*in the league
McCaffery is finished at 30 y/o....a waste of money
Today's RBs are the QBs.
Wanna give a shoutout to Joe Mixon almost 900 yards and that’s with missing 3 games. Dudes been outstanding and is on track for 1000+ yard season while missing time.
He’s been a stud all season. So glad running backs are having a renaissance
He’s been one of my favorite RBs to watch this year. Almost feels like the 90s again lol
He's been a solid RB his whole career. All the way back to OU.
Unfortunate he had to check how solid that girls jaw was.
Makes Najee Harris look like a bum
What Mixon was best at, was punching girls in the face breaking their bones
The previous Lions regime at least did one thing right -- they began the rebuild of the O-line before they shit the bed and Sheila took over. Holmes and MCDC completed it as a priority. A strong OL, as you pointed out Perna, helps a lot of components of the offensive game. One Pride
Absolutely the game is won and lost in the trenches
It was the defense that saved runningbacks. They started defending the deep balls at all cost and it’s opened up the box.
Also missed in this video is that these guys are thriving in many ways *because* their salaries are so light comparatively.
Saquon is a beast, but do we really think that the Giants would be contenders if they'd have kept him?
Tampa 2
@@archon9383 exactly, it's not like the Ravens can afford to pay Lamar $52 milion and Henry $30 million
Wow you're so enlightened
Yes. This. It's better to give up 10 yards on a run cause you're safeties are back than to get burned for a 70 yard touchdown.
As an old guy raised on Jim Brown, I've always loved a good, hard-nosed running game that fuels the pass.
It really shouldn't be a surprise. Everyone last year was complaining about how passing is dead, everyone is running a 2 high safeties.
Anyone with even a passing understanding of football strategy knows, if they start playing deep, you run the ball. Of course RBs are gonna make a come back after everyone starts dropping their safeties.
And passing will make a come back when Safeties start being used in the run game.
That's the game. That's the Xs and Os
I think something else that is actually novel but still somewhat of a throwback is the success of splitting up the running game.
Jahmyr Gibbs & David Montgomery, Saquon Barkley & Jalen Hurts, Derrick Henry & Lamar Jackson.
They all have discovered that you can combat the short shelf-life of your runners and create a more dynamic offense by splitting the reps. This used to sort of exist with fullbacks and halfbacks, but the same principle has re-evolved.
Right. It’s like gentrification. Lol once the population moves out, it resets eventually and they start moving inward.
I'd like to see a team draft, sign, or otherwise acquire two shutdown corners and see if they can bring back the Grits Blitz. The '77 Falcons could've outfoxed Don Coryell if they'd been able to cover those two wide receivers in Coryell's anti-blitzing scheme man-to-man.
Truth defenses are happy to give up 5 yards at a time to avoid the deep homerun plays. If defenses start stacking the line to stop the run will revert back to passing league
This. Its the ebb and flow of the meta.
I think some of the best teams in the NFL traded for the best running backs which helps as well. Titans and giants wasted general talents for years. Gabe Davis making more than them is hilarious
as a Boise resident and an Idaho native it's still wild to me that people are discussing a BSU player as one of the best in the country
i get why it wasnt discussed bc josh allen is playing out of his mind, but the bills rb room has been insanely fun to watch this year as a bills fan. we went from our RB1 being devin singletary in 2022 to the explosive 3 headed monster of james cook, ray davis, and ty johnson all being solid options to give the ball to. it's really improved the offense's consistency over the past year
Yeah not one clip of James Cook
As someone who enjoys a good run game, I love this
"guess who's back
back again
running backs
tell a friend"
--Brandon Perna, probably
🔥🔥
Don't let this resurgence fool you brothers. These big 3 running backs were all ultra talented players dragging their awful teams (raiders, giants, and titans) with them. Now they're on teams that complement them instead of force them to carry the team (packers, eagles, and ravens) so they don't get hurt as often and do better overall. With saquon especially, the giants scheme had him playing between the tackles more as a power back, instead of shifting him to the outside where he can make use of the open space. Running backs themselves aren't making a comeback, we're finally just seeing great ones get to play on good teams who don't force them into bad situations.
Sonic & knuckles!!!!! 🦁👑
ur channel got huge berna. 🇺🇸 the future of content and entertainment is slowly but surely moving to youtube over time each year and away from boomer cable networks. keep it up 👍🏼 you are in the pole position along with that tom grossi guy
Why say boomer cable and be disrespectful to an entire generation. They didn't have a choice in entertainment. I blame your parents or lack of.
@matt.stevick wtf are you talking about child. Don't you have a Biden Harris rally to go to.
I believe that the reason is us fans…. If for whatever reason god forbid pernas channel tanked and we all basically stopped watching it’s not like he can stay relevant of a “brand” like SC and espn
Thank you Saquon for saving are team💚🦅
Now it's time to bring back Lenny Burger King Fournette
And Cheeseburger Eddie Lacy
Getting an elite running back will not make a bad team. Good but it might make a good team. Great
Could not possibly love Saquon more. Thank you Giants!
Nope. He's magnificent.
2025-2026 is gonna be the year of punters
Oh please no
Fullbacks
@@lengendaryfettygaming2709honestly I could see fullbacks being used more often especially if they try and counter more running plays next year imagine nfl offenses using the I formation and the fullback starts making more runs for those 3rd and short plays
Patrick Mahomes saved the RB position.. Teams went to 2 high safety..the rest is history.. Give Pat a shout out for it Perna.. I'm sure he'd like that. 😅
My legs are asleep…dang toilet!
Thank god you switched that god awful terrifying thumbnail😂
Saquon saved my fantasy season too, to be fair.
As a Bama grad and massive Bama fan, I would be remiss not to mention this: Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Najee Harris were all drafted out of Bama ☺️
Age is just a number is crazy
2 great RBs, A Defense w/ the best depth in the league, and a QB who can game manage or have a shootout.
Dan Campbell is making the League Gritty again.
Thanks Dan
As a niner fan this is a slap in the face. This is the year that RBs went to the IR list.
I mean with CMC you should have seen that coming in. The guy is just about the most talented dude to ever step on the football field, but he's made of fucking wet tissue paper. Always has been. You look at him too hard and he pops a tendon somewhere :/ He's spent at least half his career injured/recovering from injuries sadly.
@trautsj sure. But also Mason. And likely Gerardo right behind him. Who knows how long Taylor will last after that.
Explain please..... That isn't clear to me, but I'd like it 5o be. Ty
@@richardchurchill702 so if you're a Niners fan you would see that almost all our RB have been hurt. Which is a huge part of the Niners offense. Ergo not a pleasant situation
Great video brandon🔥🏈🔥
it's crazy that those spam bots can't figure out how to generate fake comments that sound genuine like this one does lol
@@mattcarberry368who knows, maybe Brandon’s content is inspirational and there’s a soft side to him…
Linebackers are tiny now too. I’d go run heavy if I was an NFL OC.
Yup avg lb is 240lbs but fast
@ I wonder how Henry would do against Al Wilson type LB. Henry lacks quickness at the line, so maybe they’d have luck at the point of attack.
This is why i love Football. RBs are ignored so often, but when you get a few really good ones.... IT SHOWS SO MUCH!!!
I mean, it just makes sense. A strong running game opens up the offense. Focusing solely on passing just handicaps your offense into predictability.
No love for tank bigsby 😞
Im hoping Skattebo from ASU brings it hard.
I think Mixon should be considered top 5. The only reason his yardage isn't top 5 is because he missed 3 games, but has 100, or more, yards in all but 2 games and has 12 total TDs. The problem is that so many RBs are thriving that its easy to forget him.
Tony Pollard has had a great season also for a bad Titans team that lost Henry in FA to the Ravens, deserves a shoutout
A good RB is a QB's biggest help...
And don’t forget about Nick Chubb and his return
He needs to go to a team that will scheme him in next year
Mike Anderson is a legendary Broncos RB
The video to lighten up my day after my truck got totaled
19:00 I was not expecting a Cam Skattebo reference from Perna, that's so funny.
2024: The Year Running Backs Killed the 49ers
The Superbowl hangover killed them, the running back thing was just a result of that
Why are Josh and saquan’s eyes green 😭😭
The Chaos Emeralds
Jeanty to Dallas would be WILD! Another potential all time great RB for Dallas to add to its legacy.
Dallas already has a legacy. 30 years of disappointment 😂
😑The Lions saved the RB position. The end. You're welcome NFL.
Barry Sanders was before your Denvers mid-ninetees take. So was Emmit Smith. Still understand what you were getting at.
Tyrell Davis was a nobody from the 6th Round. Sanders and Smith were 3 and 17 Overall.
as a BSU alumni and Denver fan, i can't FUCKING WAIT for Jeanty to enter the league. even if he goes to the Chiefs for some god forsaken reason, I would still root for him.
I’m guessing you drive a Ford Bronco too given your affinity for Broncos 😁
@ Hah! If i had the money!
I was gonna guess he owned a horse ranch 😂
Don't worry he'll probably be drafted by Dallas
how do u include najee half this video over mixon? Najee is getting outperformed by his backup almost every week. Mixon is absolutely carrying that offense on his back with how bad stroud has been plus with the injuries that the texans have dealt with w diggs and nico being out for 5 weeks.
I just subscribed. Couldn't believe I wasn't already!
Thank you, Perna. Thank you for putting a spotlight on this position.
Running backs never left....they just weren't appreciated there for a few years while everyone and their brother was throwing for 4-5000 yards
Frank Gore watching this in shambles
I forgot about Frank Gore for a second there.
I just hope the NFL starts giving better pay to the RB position. They are far underpaid for the kind of spark they give an offense
Literally watched all but the last 5 mins at the dinner table, then has to take it to the bathroom for the final stretch. Thanks for the shout-out perna! 😂
that was fun & interesting, well done!
Remeber when we all thought Detroit was crazy drafting Gibbs so high?
I have Gibbs and Jacobs on my fantasy team and it's been so great, I also have Chase at WR who was my first round pick who I took over Jefferson and Lamb. Im having one of the best fantasy seasons Ive ever had.
A big factor is the change in the nature of defensive backs and defensive preparations in practice. The heavy passing game caused a switch to lighter, speedier backs. Tackling became a secondary consideration. Add to this the increased length of the season, and teams do not conduct live tackling drills nearly as much as the once did, in order to minimize chances for injuries in practice. DBs and defenders in general are worse at tackling now, and talented RBs are taking advantage.
The Lions don’t need to baby and preserve our running back for the post season, because we have two. And in my opinion, both Sonic and Knuckles are better than Barkley or Henry. Thats why the Lombardi will be traveling down Woodward Ave. at 5 MPH in February. 🦁🏈🏆
EDIT: JG for MVP!!!

Great video, love the RBs,
Great video. Just want to add that all these backs are also threats to catch the ball out of the backfield!
watching gibbs or montgomery rip down the field with penei sewell blocking in front of them like a bodyguard is a thing of beauty
Cowboys need to draft Ashton Jeanty
Great work perna. This reminds me of your espn documentary. (Still my favorite) Very insightful 👏
Hot take, Perna: in the playoffs Chiefs will run on 60+ % of offensive plays. Discussion?
Shout out to the editor on this one. Homdres of great clips interlaced so well 👏 👏
thank you for this perna. I was in desperate need of something to fill extreme boredom🙏
It’s not just Jeanty either this class that is considered relatively weak in QB and WR is loaded at RB Jeanty, Hampton and Cam Scattabo are all guys that can come right into the NFL and make the teams that draft them exponentially better right away
2:27 What is up with that hair part???
dude looks like he got his skull cleaved in by jason and now his hair can’t grow on the scar💀
Anyone notice how every running back had highlights against the bears
Najee has hardly justified his 1st round selection.... he has zero vision. If he had better vision he'd be d henry level. But 1k yard in a season isn't the accomplishment it use to be that's all he has to hang his hat on. Exactly the reason we aren't picking up the 5th year
Najee rarely fumbles and is rarely injured. I like the 2 back system.
@steelerspittsburgh875 his vision is bootycheeks. He can't break away either. Coulda got someone to do whT he does in the later rounds

The running game is always important in football.
Player salaries are just an absolute joke. Its sickening how much money some of these people get paid to look average or even just sit on a bench!
i love this channel and get my fair share of Pernography these days
but one thing i can't get past is how he says "20 ott 23" instead of just saying 2023 like a normal person.... there is literally no reason whatsoever to jam an awkward "ott" in the middle of saying what year it is/was, please reconsider your choices Brandon! Love you
Najee is destined to be a Cowboy
If he ends up there, l hope Jerry throws a big bag to Najee
The ravens, packers and eagles were already good. How did they “turn them around”
No not this time perna I wasn’t watching on the toilet this time at least
not that it’s any of your business Brandon but i was listening to this while showering
The only GMs who don't believe in RBs are those who can't build an offensive line.
You use aught wrong in a not funny way honestly

Thing is, nobody's giving an RB big money. It's good teams getting better on reasonable, cheap, or rookie contracts.
I've missed the days when backs were a big deal. I'm a Giants fan, and I was pissed at how Saquon was treated at the end. I hate Philly, but I really hope he runs all over NY and breaks the all-time record against them.
Rule changes, that need a more balanced offense, many defenses catching on to controlling WR's meant more opportunities for rushes. We have also seen some RB's become short field receivers, a dual threat. Barkley is also lucky so far as to injuries that hurt him and the Giants when with them.
People forget that Henry had a light load for the first couple of years of his career as a back up to DeMarco Murray so more tread left on his immense tyres !
Hater
Herschel Walker was when the NFL realized they over valued the position, and this year is when the NFL realized they undervalued it.
The league is cyclical when teams started emphasizing the passing game defenses had to adjust pass rush and linebackers that could drop in coverage were prioritized, speed came more important than size. Defensive front players got smaller and faster so Offenses are reverting to more run heavy schemes to take advantage of that fact
ive been wanting to help you with the underdog thing but i live in az and thought i would have to be 21 to sign up, but it let me do it so im glad to say i did my part

Idk how the Giant's haven't fired their GM. It was clear during hard knocks that this guy was an idot.
