Hi Michael, "Never have I run across a 70 442 in this striking color combination, that is, until now" Yes, first time I can recall this color combo, and I agree it's striking, My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
Thanks for shooting the episode Lou! I had a blast restoring the car and hope everyone enjoys it. Marlene and I had fun clowning around with you and enjoyed talking to you during the video shoot. Your channel has some great car features! See you again some time!
You're welcome Andy. My pleasure sharing your great car with the Viewers. Lots of laughs and fun with you and Marlene. Make sure to say hello if you see me at another car show, Lou
Hats off to YOU if you restored this truley amazing CRAFTSMANSHIP from the greatest ERA in history TRULEY AMAZING restoration workmanship just BEAUTIFUL WELL DONE 👌
I’m sure I have never seen such a perfect example anywhere… love the W-30’s and white is my color, don’t believe I’ve seen that combination before and it looks incredible ! Wow what a great car !!
What a great 442! The interior is just fantastic. I've always thought Olds' interiors of this era were the best of GMs, but with Mr. Pilney's blue one, it truly separates his from all the others. The interior of the engine bay with that big ol' 455 staring back at us looks great as well. Thanks, Lou!
Very rare '70 W30 exterior color combination, one I haven't seen! I personally love the blue interior for this car, also something you don't see often. A fine resto, incredibly well done. Thanks for continuing to bring us these gems, Lou!
Beautiful Olds muscle car, very striking in white with blue accents. The car is a powerhouse and happy to see this feature - not enough 442s featured on the web. Thanks!
What a gorgeous 70 W30 442, uncommon color combo with stunning astro blue interior. Another great spotlight of an iconic musclecar, the sound of that 455 Rocket put a smile on this Olds guys face. Thanks for sharing Lou!! 🚀🏁
Hey Lou.Special version, really nice.My old 2 door 69 Cutlass was a mere shadow of this car, but when the wife,s aunt Ruth gives you a 58 thousand mile 350 car missing 1 wheel cover and with a scrape in the front fender, I certainly appreciated it. Thanks for the Cutlass memories.
I always liked that era body style for the 442's and the Cutlass....one of the nicest shapes to come out of Detroit. My first girlfriend drove a 1968 Cutlass, and she had a pretty nice shape too!
Absolutely gorgeous. I had this exact car in green and white in the early and mid 80’s w a 4 speed. I owned the road in that era. You did a fantastic job.

An outstanding example of an Olds 442 W 30. I remember one of these pulling up to me on Telegraph road in Dearborn, Michigan on Dreamcruise weekend. I turned my head to check for traffic for a left turn and when I looked back, the W30 had already made the turn and had rocketed a 1/4 mile down the road. Those hood locks weren't just for show!
When my dad got his gto in 75 my uncle got a 70 442 in red with white stripes. It wasn't a w30 but it had a 455. What a great car, a looker, pulled real hard, a super comfy interior. You picked a really nice one, beautiful in white. Brings back good times. Keep em coming Lou, good stuff.

Lou, imho, in the history of GM, very few cars exceed the combination of styling and performance of the '68-'72 A-body Oldsmobiles. Really good feature Lou.
Hi Lou, that Olds is a real gem of a car, and that colour really looks great, it is a pity that cars of today don`t have there own id, like they had back in the 1960s and 70s, Great show Lou.👍👍.
Lou, it’s always great to wake up to “ what you brung to the race”! I love the 442s especially the 70 W30. What a beautiful color scheme! You seem to pick my favorites from my teen years! Thanks!❤❤❤👍
I've always loved this year for 1970 Olds. This is really special with thep porcelain white with light blue stripe. I've always loved those Olds wheels too! Great interior too. Of course that enginge roar was excellent too. A true reflection of the way life used to be...
Bought one just like this one in 1977 except it was a convertible trimmed in black striping just later to find out it was used as an actual pace car sold it several years later the buyer completly restored the car and sold it for a mint I have regretted the day I ever sold this car I loved it. Thanks for the memory Lou.
A very interesting car, Lou! White with blue stripes and accents. I loved those mid-sized GM cars of that era - they obviously shared many underneath sheet metal panels but each division did such a great job changing the exterior designs that it was not like the cookie cutter look of the GM A-bodies from the 1980's that shared almost everything on the outside except for front and rear ends and interiors. The Cutlass was a beautiful car in this generation and had such a presence. Leave it to Lou to bring us such a wide range of vehicles and eras to enjoy. You are so appreciated here in Virginia! Keep up the great work!
But how beautiful this 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 looked with that Porcelain White and the light blue bands and lines of the hood vents and sides of the body! I also liked that slender spoiler and how the rear vertical turn signals are recessed in the large chrome bumper in one piece (without forgetting that soft blue tinted tone that the windshields and windows have). The interior is not far behind either, with those elegant seats upholstered in blue and its instrument panel adorned with wood and chrome lines (special mention for the automatic gear lever with manual option). A magnificently restored engine compartment and its shiny 455 V8 standing out in the middle. Congratulations to Mr. Pilney on this amazing restored gem! Best regards, Lou!
Back in the late 70s my brother had a Cutlass 350 with that head banger hood . After a few knots on his head he took a piece of foam with duct tape and made a piece he could slide over it while working on it. He carried it in the trunk. It was silver and black interior , not near as rare or nice as this one but was a nice car none the less.
Hi troynov1965, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Brothers car :-) That sounds like a nice safety device your Brother created. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
That’s funny! Lots of people Now cut a piece of a foam pool noodle and put it over it when working on it or at car shows! Same thing your brother did yrs ago.
Goodday Lou, As Australia's number 1 Oldsmobile Fan this 442 W30 is faultless it just blew my mind. Being of Greek decent the W30 has that Greek Flag colour about it, even the interior is of high quality. The best taillights in 1970 in my opinion the whole Oldsmobile just oozed class. The Olds 442 is one of GM's best. Let's be honest. A lot of the muscle cars of that era were kind of tinny. But the Olds 442 Cutlass's were really solid and with the 455, they would run like a scalded dog!!

Pontiac used the shifter in the Firebird, I think they called it the His and Hers shifter. Loved the Olds! Loved that 455! I could always tell by the sound that an Olds was passing by.

What a classic! W30 too. I have always told people that if I ever win any big money in the Powerball my first search would be for either the lead '70 442 convertible that paced the start of the '70 Indy 500. I'm told it still exists. There is one in the IMS speedway museum but there should have been a backup pace car identical to the primary. I don't know how many 500 Festival Pace cars were built. Festival cutlass'' usually go to dealers after the race was over. There is a really cool story about the original one that got lost and was found by accent and restored to its former glory. For the race start and on track it was driving by retired Indy winner Roger Ward. In 1971 it was driven by a Dodge dealer who had received all the Barracuda's they used for the 1971 Indy 500. I won't go into it here, but its easily to find at the Hemmings News site. That 1971 Plymouth Barracuda ... oh boy... what a story.

Nice car, In high school 76 to 78 I had a 1969 Camaro SS with a built 350. my neighbor had the same style 442 w30 he was mad because I could bet him light to light . I had 3:73 posi, Great Video Lou
That is one supreme street machine! I love all of the detail put in when they restored it and had one question that you may have asked. The inner fenders came from the factory red like that? Or just 442 W30 trim? Just curious and found that interesting. 68-72 GM A Body cars were my first true loves and although I had a few of them, this is one that didn’t.
Hi benzlick, High praise. The inner fenders were red from the factory and I believe what came on the W30 trim, but might have been the 442 too. Hoping a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou
Red inner fenders were only used on the w30 cars from 1967 to mid 1971. When supplies of the red ones ran out in 71 they used black fender liners on the remainder of the 71 w30 cars.
I saw one Add a car show. I don't know the year. But it was a hurst convertible, four speed air conditioning car, beautiful elizabeth city, north carolina
Hi Leon, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Glad you were able to send this video to your kinds. No idea on the value of this car. Thank you for viewing and sharing. Although there was a picture of the W27 rear shown it would have been great to see it on the video if possible. I’ve seen ones with the optional cover only but to see the super rare entire aluminum center section also would have been great. Wanted to know if the axle tubes were steel since due to steel/aluminum together causes galvanized corrosion what was used to insulate the 2 of them. Couldn’t weld the tubes to the center section
They are plug welded to the steel axle tubes. There is a hole in the aluminum center section section on the side where the plug weld goes. Exactly like they weld the steel tubes to the iron center sections.
Hey big bro Lou!! OH MAN! KO 😵😵time for ol' JV Johnny, big brother lol 🤣🤪. What an EPIC OLDS 442. With a lopey, wolfie exhaust that could put a baby to sleep? How about a middle aged, lightweight, JV baseball jock😜? That beautiful porcelain white 100% matches my tubesocked stocking calves and feet, now dangling out the back window, with me 100% knocked out and dreaming about chicks in the back seat. (as usual). (I hope Andy wouldn't mind my sneakers dangling from the rear view mirror as added affect lol 😂). Andy's pristine and gorgeous 442 makes a car guy weak in the knees, no doubt. All the detailing, Lou! My God, she is a gorgeous beast, dripping with character and charm. Makes me crazy! But in a good way lol 😆. Thanks for all the car guy inspiration, big brother! JV Johnny ⚾⚾
Love Oldsmobiles and have had a few including a 1970 442 W30 4 speed car. Did not have the wing or custom diff cover however. Mine was red with white stripes but I would have preferred the white. Your dual gate shifter was also called the "His and Hers" shifter. Very nice car and I'm sure you're proud of it. Wish I still had mine. 😞
The factory hoods of that year were fiberglass with a steel inner structure. The fiberglass was bonded to the steel structure. The hinges and springs were the same ones as the normal steel hoods.
Damn near cried 2005 had to sell my 1970 cutlass supreme fast back 350 rocket dual exhaust , you just felt GREAT while sitting or driving in the drivers seat, unfortunately the frame unibody CANT remember was in need IF i knew then what everyone knows today i would have been more patient , in canada they called the OBAMA depression era body was 8 out of 10 interior 9 outta 10 mechanical just needed regular wear & tear work Oldsmobiles always drove AMAZING with added comfort I NEED A DRINK after watching this or a dozen , that is a stunning BEAUTIFUL craftsmanship SADDENING AND SICKENING to what has been LOST in the USA & CANADA
In 1964 the first yr of 442 production yes they all came with 4 speeds. But an auto was added as an option in 1965 and subsequent years so the 442 meaning changed in those later years.
1st year 1964 - 330 V8... 4 barrel 4 speed 2 exhaust 2nd year... 4 barrel 400 ci 2 exhaust 3rd year the 442 designation is out the window w/the L69 Tri-carb option... 😆
I was under the impression that Air Conditioning was NOT an option on W-30's, NOR Power accessories, like Power Windows, Absolutely NO Power Brakes Due to engine Vacuum issues (!) No wing on the trunk either This car is a Cheap, P.O.S. Fraud. :(

Sounds like you remember a cool car for sure.
Thanks for the memories
Had same year bu 9:01 t not w 30
Was able to send to all my kids to see and HEAR what i had owned
How much is it worth?

Although there was a picture of the W27 rear shown it would have been great to see it on the video if possible. I’ve seen ones with the optional cover only but to see the super rare entire aluminum center section also would have been great. Wanted to know if the axle tubes were steel since due to steel/aluminum together causes galvanized corrosion what was used to insulate the 2 of them. Couldn’t weld the tubes to the center section
They are plug welded to the steel axle tubes. There is a hole in the aluminum center section section on the side where the plug weld goes. Exactly like they weld the steel tubes to the iron center sections.
I see Andy answered your question.
Hey JV Johnny, Happy to share this "EPIC" car with you :-) Glad this one makes you "crazy!". You're welcome, Lou
Hi Bruce, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Is the hood fiberglass? If so, would the hood hinges be modified for a lighter rate?
Hmmm, I'm not sure. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share the answer.
The factory hoods of that year were fiberglass with a steel inner structure. The fiberglass was bonded to the steel structure. The hinges and springs were the same ones as the normal steel hoods.
Needs the rally stripes on the hood and rear deck lid
Thank you for viewing and sharing what you'd like to see.
i like w30 442.
NICE!
👍🔥😍🔥👍
:-)
Hi Jaime, Sad to read you had to sell yours :-( Lou
442. 4 barrel carb, 4 speed trans, dual exhaust. but this one is an automatic. not a true 442 ? what do you think lou ?
Hmmm, I was looking for that 4 Speed too, however I'd still say this is a "true 442" because that's how the Factory made it.
maybe its a 4 speed automatic lou.@@loucostabile
In 1964 the first yr of 442 production yes they all came with 4 speeds. But an auto was added as an option in 1965 and subsequent years so the 442 meaning changed in those later years.
1st year 1964 - 330 V8...
4 barrel
4 speed
2 exhaust
2nd year...
4 barrel
400 ci
2 exhaust
3rd year the 442 designation is out the window w/the L69 Tri-carb option...
😆
As I recall, All the W 30,s from the factory had the Battery mounted in the passenger side Rear Trunk. As for me, this is not a True W 30.
Hi John, Thanks for sharing what you recall, Lou
Only the 66-67 w30’s had trunk mounted batteries
The wing needs to go
Thank you for viewing and sharing what you'd like to see.
I’m getting bored with 455W 30 Oldsmobile
I know they're always at ever car show and several in my neighborhood, does everybody have one?
@@loucostabilethey were the muscle choice for mature aged executives unlike GTOs & SS Chevelles that lured very young People
I was under the impression that Air Conditioning was NOT an option on W-30's, NOR Power accessories, like Power Windows, Absolutely NO Power Brakes Due to engine Vacuum issues (!) No wing on the trunk either This car is a Cheap, P.O.S. Fraud. :(
Hi Kenneth, Clearly this one is not for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this UA-cam Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
I was disappointed, yes. After all, I used to have one myself, and I also personally knew Mr. Joe Mondello, when I rebuilt mine. Thank you.
AC was available in 1970 on automatic W30’s. 3:23 rear gears were a requirement with AC. Car is definitely not a fraud. Paperwork proven.
@@Andyp3446I agree with you
The engine vacuum on automatic W30s was enough to operated power brakes but the 4 speed W30 had a much more radical camshaft, 328° duration!
