Little in stature....Big in heart. A great athlete who won the hearts of many, Including mine.

Thank you so much for your comment Ken! I wasn't born when she was running but her story was so inspiring I had to make a video about it!

She was definitely a pawn between countries South Africa and the UK and only being 17 years old and naive too bad her country’s politics dealt her an unwinnable hand.
As for the 84 Olympics, there was only incidental contact, Mary Decker being a wise and experience runner should know the perils of running to close to a runner’s back kick…

Unfortunately that's a situation we see again and again when it comes to sports and politics. That's one of the reason I made this channel, to remind us of these exceptional athletes who were forgotten. Hope you liked the video mate!

Unfortunately Mary later in her interview with Zola admitted in trying to trip Zola, and this was not the first athlete Mary Dekker tripped, there had been a few, but she Mary Dekker met Varma getting a life ban for drugs

Taxis were named after her and the late Brenda Fassie had a hit song about her, however you see it, she was much loved despite the difficulties. This is how sport healed us in South Africa.

The people who hounded this poor little girl were disgusting.

Agreed 100 percent. Unfortunately this kind of behavior is witnessed time and time again. It's especially disgusting when such a talented but selfless person is targeted. Truly a tragic tale.

Shame on the activists who turned her in a political figure against her will. I remember the negative media coverage of her and I loved watching her run.

Agreed. All she wanted was becoming a great athlete but this wasn't enough for a lot of people..

They, SA, were'nt weakened by sanctions but forced to change, the Rand currency was stronger against the Dollar during the saction period and SA were self sustainable and the strongest economy in africa and among most first world countries, In the 1989's when I started work there was equal opportunity among all the work force which had equal employment among all ethnic groups. I worked with coloureds, Indians, Africans and formulated great friendships!!!!!!

Budd intentionally stepped in front of Decker trying to get the inside position. She may have not intended to trip her but she clearly intended to gain an advantage with a dirty move.

I respect your opinion but I find it hard to conclude there was any dirty move being made based on the footage. Hope you enjoyed the video nevertheless

Do you know how many races have these kinds of incidents? It's part of racing. Stepping in front of someone is not a dirty move.
