Honestly you got the perfect RNG for this run. Access to the drake pearl ring, steadfast, huntress spear & orphanage within the first world is as good as you could possibly ask for a melee start.
I just realized something. If you only leveled up the spear and no other weapons for the majority of this playthrough, then once you reached the next teir of upgrade materials you would barley get any of them to drop. The upgrade material spawn rate is based on the max combine level of your 3 weapons. If you have a primary, seconday & melee all at the next tier the game will actually start dropping and selling that tier of materials. If not they are super rare.
melee run gets a lot more fun with spectral blade. solves lot of trash problems and has not so terrible range. Also worth to note, spectral blade special attack always does neutral hit. It means it won't do weak spot hit, but it does ignore armour (doesn't grey hit). And yes, Cancer is a joy in melee. Most of his moves are only dangerous at long range. Great video. Extra points for not using worlds edge.
I've been using a melee focused build but even after 9 runs through the sewers I can't get the boss to grab me through the grates to get the Drake pearl ring. Once I have that I'll be invincible.
You can do the teammate tether option. Have two players but only one enters at a time. The other just sits back and has morning tea. Can do it for multiple bosses. This is the only boss that we strictly apply this method
I run Huntress Spear in a primarily melee build. The moment you started saying you were hoping you didn't get a specific dungeon in the forest I knew... Mantagora with Displacer is a war crime. I only beat it because I had a buddy hop on: literally every time, the thing just kept teleporting me off the map and instakilling me. My buddy thought I was lying until he saw it with his own eyes. The run we beat it, the dang thing actually zapped me off the edge and I landed on some ledge geometry about 20 feet down. With literally no way back onto the map, I had to jump off after we killed the blasted beast.
its honestly one of the only areas i have a genuine problem with, as its not fun having to wait so long for a chance to hit the boss on top of the potential mutations and the fact that he summons stuff constantly its definitely a one and done dungeon
Blood Jewel, Ahanae Crystal, Timekeeper's Jewel, Toxic Release Valve(Not exactly melee but not a gun nor a mod and will let you melt most flyers) and misfortune mutator for melee. Rest you should figure out yourself =P
Plz tell me where did you find endair’s end I can’t never find that dungeon. Oh ok I watch little more of the video and saw you got the other dungeon I’m also still looking for the lamnet too
Possible. The only thing that would be really hard is the last boss. Other flyers I've beaten with melee build on nightmare though but it's certainly doable
ive been trying a melee run and ive spent 6 hours trying to find the huntress spear!!!!! i was hoping i would see it in this video.. PLEASE! how do i find it do i need to reroll ive been all over losin
The huntress boss drops it in losom, she spawns in the dran area, she is an overworked encounter meaning if u get belltower and orphanage she can't spawn
most likely if u havent encountered her, look for the area called Briellas Garden and u will have got her but she will probably ambush u far before u reach that point if u get her to spawn@@bradenburch2923
Yeah the big blue one is the actual boss in that area but all he is is a hyped up version of the smaller ones, still no actual attack just a debuff that will kill u if stacked
1. it's a terrible projectile weapon, and if I was doing that id just get the hero sword and 2. I wanted to do a run with the huntress spear so I went with that
@@SpartanSlaythe worlds edge range is shorter sure, but the damage is much higher, and it penetrates multiple enemies and goes through walls. To say it’s a bad range weapon is insanely wrong. All fair that that you wanted to use the spear though. The way you pronounced Dullain had me dying laughing, you changed the whole word 🤣
@@JWall777 sorry, i didnt mean it as a bad melee weapon, i am in the boat that anything can be good in remnant. However in terms of killing specific enemies i didnt think the worlds edge was capable, also glad my horrible pronunciation gave you a laugh lol
You can only get worlds edge after you clear apocalypse. So any build using it gets minus points since it isn't valid until you actually played through whole game at least 2 times. I wish more melee builds didn't use it. Also, all great swords are slow AF.
Homie is playing dark soul with guns and still played dark soul. Mad respect, i cant even clear the game by myself with them 9mm

That labyrinth sentinel is the exact reason I’m not even considering Hardcore.

Krell Axe has a shock AOE. . . you would've had a MUCH easier time if you picked it up and upgraded it.
Im not sure whats going on with the scream on the striders. But even with my basically immortal tank character they would one shot me.
Regenerator displacer mantagora has to be the most cursed thing I've seen in this game. GG sir.
I ended up dropping the door on Fester accidentally my very first time running into him, and now, I simply don't fight him ever.
I knew it was possible but I did it on accident in that run and it caught me off guard lol
he giant rocks in that survival fight cant hit you at all if you go to the upper level.
And lets you just look down at their core without obstruction

Mantagora really is one of the worst designed bosses in gaming history.
It's always the butterflies.
Honestly would not mind just an increase in speed and take away the ability to go beneath the map. Easy fix to make it bearable.
You never fought Absolute Virtue in FFXI.
@@Ronzeruthat’s a throwback for real. Miss FFXI.
Asura here from OG FFXI days.@@JSince1991
If it's not changed in a patch, a death in Annihilation's 3rd phase jumps to the cutscene instantly. This saves some time for speedrunners.
oh thats actually good to note, thanks!
you could have started with explorer to have the hero's sword as a starting weapon it is quite good
Super cool run dude! Props!
Yea idk throwing a spear doesn't really feel like melee to me

Can’t you dodge right before the displacer teleportation? I believe you can and it won’t teleport you but I could be wrong.
You can but if u time it wrong u will still get teleported, and in some cases it's better to just let the tele go through
Good to know. I’ve yet to up the difficulty and run into more than just maybe a few mobs with displacer suffix.
Plz tell me where did you find endair’s end I can’t never find that dungeon. Oh ok I watch little more of the video and saw you got the other dungeon I’m also still looking for the lamnet too
just keep rerolling yaesha in adventure mode. Both can spawn as first side dungeon you encounter.
Impressive. You did use your skill, though...
It's a no guns challenge.
No gun possible yes, but IMO I'm afraid Melee only is a fail as it is not possible

Why didn't you start a new character and just purchase Worlds Edge? It's a melee weapon and can hit ranged enemies

Worlds Edge is slow as F... The one and only OP thing about it is it's penetration. Though I'd still go with Krell Axe to have addition status...

Why do this on apocalypse, its ended to be tackled after beating the game and having max loot
for the challenge
It really proves the point on what is doable.
