- Welcome to my instrumental version(s) of "Come prima" (English: "As Before") an Italian song, with lyrics by Mario Panzeri and music by Vincenzo Di Paola and Sandro Taccani.
The song was first made popular by Tony Dallara in Italy in 1957, a version by the Marino Marini Quartet was a hit in the United Kingdom in 1958.
The song's music also served as the basis of an English language song, "More Than Ever", with lyrics by Mary Bond, recorded in the United Kingdom by Malcolm Vaughan with the Michael Sammes Singers (14 weeks on the UK chart, peaking at #5). Another English language lyric version of the song under the title "For the First Time", by Buck Ram, was recorded in the United States by Polly Bergen Other performers who recorded versions of the song were The Platters (1958), Willy Alberti (1958), Dean Martin, Muslim Magomayev (1961), Tony Reno & the Sherwoods (1965), and Golpes Bajos (1985). Cliff Richard sang it in Italian on his album When In Rome (1965).
I have also included an additional recording of the same tune recorded on an i-phone last weekend at The Annual East Yorkshire Shadows Music Gala. A great weekend of music and a chance to catch up with friends old and new.

Hi Neville, I fully agree with the guy in the end of the video - "absolutely brilliant". 👍👍Two wonderful versions of "Come Prima", both extremely well played and good sounding. But while the first one is exactly what can be expected from a good YT post, the second one is really great - good thing that HBM guy has retired from live gigs, now he has got serious competition...😀😀

Thanks John, that's very kind. I have always liked this tune since I saw The Ryders perform it. I like to try and play something a little unusual at these weekends (especially after listening to Geronimo for the 6th time) and thought no one else would play this one. Half an hour later the band "Down South" (with Phil McGarrick on R. Guitar) also played the same tune.......... As for HBM I understand he is performing some of his old Shadows tune soon at an event in Perth. Take care, Neville
