I have always love figs.but I have never tasted a brown turkey fig before.I got my first brown turkey fig plant about 2 years ago.it gave figs the following year.never have I ever tasted a fig that tasted so good.I liked the brown turkey fig so much that I got two more brown turkey plant this year.I can't wait until they start to give figs the following year.so sweet and juices.

I used to go to my friends house to help make strawberry fig preserves when I was in college. They used strawberry jello and figs, not sure of the recipe but the end result was fantastic.

Love figs and I have a Brown Turkey matched with a Chicago Hardy. I was told by my agriculture extension agent planting two varieties increases yields and flavours.
Yes, so many figs to try and grow. Some work better than others depending on your zone.
It’s so weird to see all of these trees that I’m used to seeing in either my or my grandparents house. Figs, avocados, mangoes, sapodilla, Bahamian cherries, mulberries, sugar apples, seagrapes.
We also got jujubes, ackee, wild grapes, coconuts, scarlet (Chinese?) plums, kumquats, loquats, moringa, guavas, okra, hot peppers, purslane, plus some more common crops like tomatoes, basil, bananas, grapefruit, broccoli, carrots, eggplants, an irregular peach tree, a mysterious tree with little pink berries that taste like cotton candy (edit: muntingia), and a bright pink bell shaped fruit whose name escapes me at the moment.
We also used to have coco plums but Matthew ripped it to shreds (I didn’t really like them anyway). Mind you, most of the bigger plants grow at their place down the road from me.

I cutting up 2 cups of figs and 1 1/2 cups sugar and if you put 1 package of strawberry Kool aid in it, it will taste like Strawberry jam. Mix in large glass bowl. Put in microwave on medium power for 7 minutes (watch it so it doesn't boil over), stir it and put back in microwave for another 7 minutes on medium power. Pour into glass jars and keep it refrigerator. Taste great.

I usta pick figs in my Grandma's back yard every summer for years.
She had 2 huge trees that bordered the back end of her property.
Abundant harvests, ate um fresh, canned & in lots of preserves.
She gave so much away & we got tired of eating them
I can smell them cooking again for preserves.

Just left my local nursery where they have a bunch of mother trees in a greenhouse which they sell cuttings off of. The reason I'm looking up vids on brown turkey is cause the figs on their tree were the size of a softball if not a little bigger. Never seen anything like it lol. The tree was growing to the roof of the greenhouse which was about 16' tall and the base of trunk was about 8" round. I bet if you prune like you said do you get less but bigger figs you may see similar size as yours is pretty hefty already. Good luck
Wow that is super cool, I never heard of figs that big! Is that in a location far north? I saw some bigger ones on a show about Italian immigrants to Canada growing sweet trees an figs. They buried theirs in the winter.
EatYourBackyard in Connecticut. My cousin in rhode island has a tree similar in size to yours and hes getting tennis ball sized figs but he doesnt know what variety the tree is unfortunately. I've taken some cuttings of it which are just starting to pop so in a few years I'll see if I can reproduce the size hes getting. Will likely take longer

Rust affecting figs is common in humid climate.Where i'm from near the equator figs dont do well and the ones cultivated looks scraggly and doesnt grow tall.All sort of fungal diseases and nematodes are main concern here

After 5yrs and unusual leaves,I noticed fiddle leaf leaves at bottom of the tree are growing figs.
The tree is about 9 feet tall but only the other type leaves.I am thinking about a serious pruning the branches with the other leaves. Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks
Thanks for sharing, I would trim in around early March, just before it's first growth, then hit it with some organic fertilizer.
This fig tree has the best structure and most shapely I've ever seen. Are you planning on pruning it again next year? When is the best time to prune? You do it every year ??

Why aren't my brown Turkey figs ripening? It's 2 years in the ground and has about 10 large green hard fruits and it's July 15th in northeast Texas about 60 miles southeast of Dallas. My figs are showing no signs of ripening. The new growth has new small figs starting now. Will these grow a second crop? It gets 8 hours of full sun daily, and the leaves are bright and dark green. We've had plenty of rain and I haven't needed to water much. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something I can do to help out or am I being too impatient?
Sometimes in the winter I get a crop that sets never ripens then drops, that is one of 3 or four waves of figs
Do you have to cover it in the winter?

I saw you had some leaves with brown on the edges? I am trying to grow a fig tree mission I think- a friend gave me a cutting. It is a year old. How do I keep my fig in a pot healthy. I live in NY and love Figs? Is there a type that has early fig in spring and summer? I would love to have a cutting from your tree!
My advice is to give them a fish waste type of fertilizer. In FL they get fungus and nematodes, etc. No big deal, it only affects the leaves and not the fruit. I grow the Brown Turkey variety, but you have many more choices in NY. Not sure the Brown Turkey would do well in NY.

nice tree! did you plant the fig yourself? I have potted figs and I'm afraid of planting them because I heard the roots will be eaten by nematodes... I heard if you plant them with a five gallon bucket with a hole through the bottom, the nematodes don't go that deep?
Yes, I planted myself years ago. I don't know how the roots are doing, but it is a strong producer. I have found the roots don't go very deep.

why does my brown turkey figs freeze back every year. I live in central Texas.
They don't like the freeze, you can fold them down under hay to protect them.
Charles Schiller .... depending on the part of Texas, winter protection is likley needed. I prune my two bushes to a manageable size, surround the Bush with chicken wire then stuff the area with wheet straw. A second boundary area of chicken wire two feet outside the first and more straw. I cover the whole thing with a tarp leaving a small vent for air but no rain. Do use rat or mouse poison around the plant of they may really like that warm castle you built with a ready food source, the fig bush! Unwrap and remove straw one week after last frost. May use burlap to wrap each branch. Two bushes 4ft tall and 5ft across takes 12 bales of straw. The straw will make good mulch in the spring.

collect some fig leaves and and rip them to small pieces then boil them for 20-35 mins or until they resemble tea
