What’s your retirement math? With reduced income during retirement you may want to consider purchasing. My mortgage payment is $400 per month and my income is $12,000 per month. This is biased, irresponsible journalism that unnecessarily pits landlords and tenants against each other. The province makes it so difficult and lengthy to evict a non paying tenant, that landlord’s have no choice to be extremely analytical in selecting tenants to protect their financial interest. I had the opportunity to become a landlord last year and I didn’t even consider it given how risky it actually is.

Issue is the ltb is in efficient and tenants are taking advantage especially if their single mothers as they get to argue some humanitarian angle for not paying rent. Not paying rent for 2 years before the court makes a decision is a total avoidance of justice. When tenants are held accountable to pay rent landlord’s will be less apprehensive to rent to whomever. At present they are only renting to tenants with the best financials because of the above reason. If you want free housing it should be built by the government not by the private owners who have had to pinch Pennie’s to buy their investment properties.

    • @lizliz4186

Both sides are suffering. Some landlords dont get paid but most do. Less than 4% of ltb claims are due unpaid rent.
On the other side tho, far more tenants are being screwed by landlords who don't fix things and don't maintain things despite being paid every month and having that investment paid for by their tenants.
