My Mom had two of these Grand Ams. I always thought they were good-looking little cars. They were peppy for their day as well. Pontiac is the only manufacturer that I miss. Some great designs over the years. It's a shame that GM put them out to pasture but kept Buick.
Oh DUDE I reallllly love this one! As a GM apologist, I totally get the appeal of this little car. What a survivor! I bet people at Cars and Coffee will love seeing it.
I agree. I still like Tyler and I am glad he did so well, but the expensive exotic cars just don't appeal to me as much. For sure Ethan has the dumbest automotive show on UA-cam now LOL.
Didn't even have to click on the video to know that that shape was a Grand Am. Always loved this generation of them. I'm torn though on if I like the pre-facelift bulldog style over the more angled beak style of yours though. They both were such cool little cars.
I love that grand am! It’s a great survivor and worthy of RADWOOD! Also one other car I can think of that uses white badges is the new Bronco. In the front Bronco is in white.
3 reasons I hate that Pontiac body cladding: 1. It hides the severely rusted doors and rocker panels (#SaltBeltProblem). In fact it exacerbated the rusting because the automatic car washes couldn’t clean off the salt that gets behind the cladding. 2. It makes the panel gaps inconsistent as they warp in the heat. 3. It screamed “cost cutting”, “cheap”, and “least design effort given” I didn’t like Pontiacs for most of my life because of it. But at least the wheels on that look awesome! (It’s going to be hard finding good quality tires for it though, lots of tire manufacturers are abandoning the 14 inch and smaller sizes)
If i had space. Id be doing the exact same thing. I love experiencing as many cars as i can. Specially the ones you saw when you couldnt have them. Cheers!
Same here! Between me and my wife we have 4 vehicles at my house but they are newer models. I would love to own some older models but my driveway is full. Maybe I will buy 1 old car just for fun.
Before watching the video, by the thumbnail it looks like a Pontiac Grand Am. The roof line gave it away, and you showed the Pontiac wheels. I had an '89 2 door in dark blue, but it wasn't the SE model. It was a good highway car.
Love this so much! My best friend Dale had an early 90s Grand Am. We rode the wheels off that thing in college. So many good memories! Then he traded it for a brand new Mazda MX-3 & then we *really* thought we were cool - ha! An MX-3 should be your next find! :)
Its nice that you pointed out how small cars were or how fitting they were and that was back when people were tougher and cooler less scared than nowadays. Size up is beyond ridiculous Civic is bigger than Accord was not long ago but its full size pickups/SUVs wise is where things got beyond ridiculous at least back in the olden days those things served their purpose, every Suburban was full of kids , every F150 was loaded with cement bags, now you need Navigator because you have your one kid, lifted F250 to bring that new TV or sofa once every 2 years etc etc
It’s totally nostalgic. My favorite car while I was in college. Recalled it being quite peppy. You just don’t think much about quality as a college student.
Sooooo nice! I am an Olds person, I like the higher end Calais' N bodies - but you just can't deny the looks of that Pontiac. Love it so much! Congrats!!!
Man that is a beautiful find. I love those kind of wheels and the whole styling of the exterior and interior. Wayy rad. It's just got such a vibe. Late 80s early 90s Pontiacs are just such sweet example styling for that time. I love your channel man, I have the same taste in cars as you and wish I could do what your doing too. Getting to drive one of those time capsules must be so vibey. Keep going, your vids a great.
Interior reminds me alot of my first car, a 95 beretta. Loved that car, was maroon and had the 3100, not fast but was fun and the engine sounded nice haha. Awesome car man!
I loved those Grand AM.....when i was a kid , i came to the USA ( FL) on vacation in 1987 and the rental that we had was a white Pontiac Grand AM (4 doors)!!!! at the time ( living in France), i thought it was the best looking and coolest car...lol :)
Looks good bro! Glad to see you get another fill of 80s/90s Pontiac goodness. Yeah, the wheels and body cladding rock! There must be SOMETHING wrong with that car or you'll ruin your streak of buying broken hoopties. My aunt had a white 2 door Grand Am just like that until 1995 when she bought a new Camry that she only just recently sold.
So happy for you, Ethan! A big score & awesome win! For "fun" in your next video, try to get in & out of the car by using GM's brilliant alternative to motorized seat belts & air bags.... The door-mounted seat belts. It was intended that the driver & front passenger leave the belts always buckled, & for there to be just enough "room" to get in & out with the front doors wide open.
I had an 03 Saturn L-Series that had similar quality materials that your Grand Am has. The brittle plastics, the flimsy armrest storage. You could wiggle the turn signal switch cause it was so loose. Still worked though, lol. Way to snatch up a gem!!
My mom had a red Grand Am SE with the Quad 4 and manual Trans. It was one car I have allot of nostalgia for and if I found one I'd definitely buy it. It was one of my favorite cars she owned. The shifter cable broke and she never found anyone to fix it and it ended up getting impounded..She later got a 94 Ford Probe GT with a manual after that..which I have equal nostalgia for...this channel definitely feeds my love for 90s cars lol I especially love old GM stuff like this. I think this is the coolest car in your fleet. It has everything: it is forgotten, cheap, unloved, an extinct brand, common then but rare now, and just screams late 80s/early 90s coolness!
Several of these were sent to peru in the late 90s. A few of these are still left around my city but unfortunately the engines weren't as reliable as nissan or toyota so you always find then abandoned. In fact there's a white one exactly like this with the aero wheels abandoned near my house. I always like to see it. Looks so classy
