First Doom, First Quake, Duke Nukem, First Diablo and the epic The Elder Scrolls chapter 2 Daggerfall.. These were glorious days of gaming and a perfect year to be remembered !!!! I myself played Daggerfall (which i installed recently and start playing again
At first I cringed when I saw Final Doom because its just a glorified mission pack being released in retail, but I keep forgetting it is a lot of peoples first adventure into doom because 1995-1996 were the transition years when a lot of people were finally able to get computers strong enough to play doom. I think Descent 2 should have been on this list, it was more popular than some of the random strategy titles on here.
I would add Phantasmagoria 2 and the expansion pack to Hexen if it counts. It came out in 1996 while the original game was 1995. Would remove any of the strategy games. Would definitely place Tomb Raider a lot higher on the list. Nice video anyway.
I remember you from a while ago. You did the same thing here as with the 1995 video. Albion was published in 1996 for most of the world except Germany. Same issue happens here: Realms Of The Haunting was published in Germany in late 1996, but it's a 1997 release for the rest of the world. Mind you, Diablo's release date was a subject of discussion elsewhere, as it was originally postponed from an early December 1996 release (GameSpot says November 30) to a couple days after Christmas 1996, and seemingly only available in west US coast shops by then (confirmed by OGR news, with records on Yahoo groups of people pissed that their local shop couldn't get copies). Just trying to be accurate. ;-) I would replace ROTH with Resident Evil on this list, and Civilization II is another must.
after tomb raider andsome sega games demos only demo of realms of the haunting blow my mind back then. opennig was so strong with fmw video . game was also good 3d back then. quake 2 and 3 arena demo and nocturne demos was only game demos blow my mind after that. star wars shadow of empire also come 96 adn jedi knigt on 97. of course there was xwings games too.
+Martin Hill Do you mean The Neverhood that 1996 Claymation adventure game? They have The Neverhood at archive(dot) org I think as an ISO. In fact there are a lot of full old PC titles there
+Martin Hill Just do a simple internet search on it.If the game is "The Neverhood" there is a Wikipedia page about it and also there are some videos about that game here on UA-cam.The Neverhood is a collectors item especially if it came in a retail box
Where the heck is Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 2 from Microprose?!? By that time it set new standards for simracing on normal PC. Moreover big (off-line) internet series like LFRS.
oh I remember having the third game. I wasn't interested in sim games at the time, but my brother, who's 3 years older than me, was very much into cars and he used to play that game a lot. What's LFRS though?
Where is Albion? Probably one of the best old RPG`s and hell of inspiration for James Cameron`s Avatar. Otherwise good choice, 5 of these are in my top 10 too.
I love Quake 1, but Diablo 2 imo definitely deserves the first place. That game was way ahead of its time, and arguably still isn't rivaled by any of the multitude of its clones or even its own sequel. I was born in 1994, so I'm pretty much outside of the target audience for this game, but I did play quite a few of older games as a child. D2 became one of my favourite video games back, when I first played it in the early 00s, and I've been playing it on and off ever since then, and I even have it installed right now. I've played all of the so-called Diablo-killers, that came out since then: Sacred, Titan Quest, Grim Dawn, Torchlight and Path of Exile, etc. and none of them imo have surpassed it. Even Hellgate London, made by the original developers, was a bit undercooked.
"Realms of the haunting" I heard about that game before but never had the opportunity to play it or even watch video about it. and it looks really good, I want to try
never liked the first Quake. Too dark, monotonous, levels all similar one to another... caves, castles, dungeons, all blocky, empty ambients and all alike. Few, dark colours, very dull, squalid. The 3d engine was very good for its time but otherwise a very overrated game
Damn '96 was a good year for gaming..
The 90' was a fine decade to be a gamer.
"Cha-CHINGGA" Oh Tanya. Fond memories.
2017 and still playing Final Doom.
First Doom, First Quake, Duke Nukem, First Diablo and the epic The Elder Scrolls chapter 2 Daggerfall..
These were glorious days of gaming and a perfect year to be remembered !!!!
I myself played Daggerfall (which i installed recently and start playing again
you can still play doom online if you're interested. check out zdaemon or another similar doom port, there's still a dedicated playerbase!
It was not the first Duke Nukem, I played this on my 486 machine. Actually it was the 3rd.

@@didierradio Have you properly read my comment? My english back then wasn't good but i didn't write "First Duke Nukem" or did I? :)
@@etshArk87 Yeah, sorry, my mistake.
@@etshArk87 Agree, my mistake and YES, I agree with your statement: "These were glorious days of gaming and a perfect year to be remembered !!!!"
Master of Orion 2 rules so much I still play it.
Very nice video, played most of these back as a kid. Great list.
Love it that U show original versions and no source ports :)
Final doom was a source port.

Quake 1, thanks to this atmospheric game I fell in love with first person shooters.
holy shit, my youth. right there.

Good selection
ah sweet memories!
I miss 1996
Daggerfall, Normality, Skynet, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D, Final Doom, Red Alert, Blood, etc thks Mom ❤️

Cool souvenirs
Diablo and Duke Nukem definitely the best, but I didn't discover Duke Nukem until a few years later.

Those DOS games were pretty neat at the time.

realms of the haunting really freaked me out back then

Who else came here just to see what pc gaming was like in 1996?

2021 And still playing Quake 1 but with modern source ports.
No mention of Titanic: Adventure out of Time...
That's a crime against humanity.
Why did you not include touhou 1?
anyone know anything about a title called NeverWorld (1996)? the site that's on the box no longer exists.
+Martin Hill Do you mean The Neverhood that 1996 Claymation adventure game?
They have The Neverhood at archive(dot) org I think as an ISO.

i'm not sure really; i haven't opened it and don't want to in the event its a collectible. just looking for info on it.
+Martin Hill Just do a simple internet search on it.If the game is "The Neverhood" there is a Wikipedia page about it and also there are some videos about that game here on UA-cam.The Neverhood is a collectors item especially if it came in a retail box
i tried looking online and found next to nothing (hence the reason i asked here).
+Martin Hill I've got the game on cd. If you have the big box version then it is worth at least £100.
Where's Syndicate Wars by Bullfrog?
In the recycle bin where it belongs.
No Might and Magic VI?
Diablo is really from 1997

URNTULL
Mario 64, Final Doom, Tomb Raider and Diablo were the best 1996 games
StarCraft > C&C

Resident Evil was ported to PC later on, iirc.
👍👍✌️🇺🇦🍺
Wait..I'm sure Tomb Raider was 1997
