Just to let you know… Amos Garrett, who originally played the song… Is alive and well here in November 2023 and I spoke to him the other day and he was practising lots as he had some corporate gigs at Christmas this year!
This one has always been on my bucket list. Back in the 70’s when I was working on Aerosmith, Bad Co. songs, etc., my Dad told me I should learn this one. I’m sorry he never got to hear me play it. Thanks for the great breakdown of this classic. Yes, I dig it! You rock, Dave!
Emmy for Emily even if that's for movies only, this is a movie just don't have a roaring lion at the opening, it's got a beautiful voice/pretty lady singing midway through😊
hello david, thank u for sharing the chords on Midnight at the Oasia. Your instruction avoided the time consuming hours figuring out the chords. Sachi from Japan
Thanks for this lesson. This will be good practice for me . This song always brings me back to a happy time in my life way back in the early 70's. I'm so glad I found your channel. I enjoy listening to your smooth chord changes on your acoustic guitar!
Seinfeld, when George pretends to work and gives Jerrys number for the phone number. He trips in his underwear trying to get to the phone and Jerry says, and you want to be my latex salesman.
@@DavesGuitarChannel So many true to life things i got from that show. Many laughs. Uncle Leo's adventures, Putty and Elaine in the airplane, George's parents. I laugh just thinking of them.
@@DavesGuitarChannel no prob, you have the best channel on UA-cam. You have the closest musical taste to mine on this planet..... Didn't think that was possible. I'm really enjoying the tutorials!
@@DavesGuitarChannel I'm 62 years old. Been a bass player for 40 years and never heard that term until now. LOVE this song! Those chords are delicious.
Your using terms I don' know, like "play it square". And another word you referred to the next Emaj7 becomes a "p......" I don't know the word you used or what it refers to. Other than that I like the lesson. Thanks
Play it square means play on the downbeats. Push the chord or saying it is played on the push means that instead of it coming in on one, it comes on 4 and off the previous bar. So 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 And, the chord will fall on the and. Technically in music this is called an anticipation. Playing the note or chord an 8th note early. The slang term for an anticipation is a push. In a song that has frequent pushes, when you say play it square, You are saying, play the chords on 1. Hope that clears it up.
@@DavesGuitarChannel Thanks for taking the time to respond to my dumbness it really helps. I had never heard those terms before. Oh well, even at my age, (which I won't mention at this time) I still have learning to do.

That voicing of Eb7 is basically impossible for a inexperienced player but then so is the whole song. Still you might want to help them out lol
Then again, I might not.

What's a "push"?
A push is another word for anticipation. So instead of a chord starting on the downbeat of 1, it comes early on the upbeat of 4 and.
