Hey gibi! I work in ophthalmology. Often times, we don't test near vision in patients under 40 years old, unless they complain of blurry near vision. That typically starts around 40 years old. Anyway, I loved the video and clearly love all your eye related ASMR videos!!
Wish you would.... I had to go back in after getting my prescription because they didn't test my near vision. I've had eyezen lenses for years and they needed to be upped and they gave me a single vision prescription...
It was the first time I'd been to this place, since I'd just moved, but I feel like they should really check. Just because not everybody needs help with near vision doesn't mean nobody does, and it's a really expensive mistake to just not test

Ben likely has an asymetrical/Anisometropic astigmatism which is the reason non of your hyperopia or myopia lenses fixed a lot... Astigmatism especially corneal astigmatism often requires custom made asymetrical cylinder lenses, or more commonly asymetrical contact lenses. So when you're putting a symmetrical lens on his eye the astigmatism is causing part of his retina to have clear focus while other parts are not. A good note for Ben would be to ask the eye doctor at his next visit to test for Anisometropia because that can become a very serious problem if not properly treated especially if it becomes ampoblyopia.

I never had an eye test in school. I always sat in the back of the room in class, because my last name starts with S. But I was gifted and could keep track of what we were doing on the board while working ahead in the workbook. When I was twelve years old I asked my dad for a 35mm camera for my birthday and took my first photos. They all came out blurry. My dad asked if I knew how to focus the camera. When I said yes, he made me focus his camera so he could look through it. Then promptly took me to an eye doctor to get glasses. So that's how I got all the way to middle school before getting glasses.
