Guys really need to make a blindfold test with ligatures!!! From the cheapest to the fanciest. It could be one of the most down-to-earth educational videos about sax gear. Basically a solid 2 screw , a Rovner Versa, a Francois Louis (either), and the most expensive Silverstein.
I have played the SR Technologies Pro 115 for 20 years and can’t find a reason to replace it for anything else every time I try any other pieces. It matches my Selmer Reference 54 tenor quite well. It is very Reed friendly and responsive in all registers for sub-tone to cutting with an electric R&B band and everything in between. Versatile is the best description of this piece.
I am not usually into medium bright mouthpieces like this, or Theo Wanne mouthpieces, but I liked the sound of the Gaia the most of all of these. As much as I like seeing these tenor mouthpiece comparison videos, I play alto, not tenor, so could you guys do an Alto metal mouthpiece comparison like this? Also, could you do a Soprano mouthpiece comparison, feel like I have been waiting forever to see one of those.
Interesting video. I’d be very interested to see this test again with a well refaced Florida Link STM. USA or no USA. In my experience, as good as the modern pieces are as far as response, I’ve yet to find one that has the depth of sound that a really good Link gives me. But then, that’s me. But it would be great to give one a go against the best of these. Frankly, I thought the Fry and the SR had more core and a mire centered pitch. The Jody Jazz sounded hard to center.
Very nice and informative video! Thank you Jim for keeping your eyes covered for all that time for giving us an unbiassed opinion of each mouthpiece. It seems it was too hot for an autumm day in London, was the AC working as expected?
I recently purchased a used tenor sax with a "like new" vintage A Gigliotti 7G* tenor mouth piece. What would it be worth and as an intermediate player, should I be using it?
Jim seems suspiciously comfortable wearing that mask.
lol
Mask? I thought it was a training bra at first!

And maybe Vandoren optimum as well.

These are all dark rollover baffle mouthpieces not medium bright.

No Phil-Tone tribute ? It's a damn good florida link copy.
I agree. Just wish there move more sound demo vids of it on yt. Really thinking that may be my next piece
I just bought the SR tech pro generally based on this video. Lol
But in all fairness I got it for a good price on eBay.
How do you like it?
I always wear a blindfold when playing so that nobody will ask me, "Hey, man, what's your setup?"
I’m desperately looking for a Morgan Fry Super Vintage 8. Where did you get that one and might you have any info regarding anyone who wants sell one?
I was just wondering if we are able to try mouthpieces at your store?
Before covid they were. Not sure if that's still the care. I was able to try mpcs and horns. Such a great store every 🎷 player has to visit
Morgan fry Super Vintage
Great and informative video. Any chance we can get a battle of the darkest mouthpieces you sell?

RE: Gaia 3 - Can anyone comment on using the native lig vs. the Rovner Jim uses in the test? thx
Do you guys have any experience with the 10mfan tenor pieces?
How about.. under $.200,- mouthpiece challenge.
I just LOVE the face bra,
especially in that lovely pink.
I'm thinking the reeds used didn't match up that well.
