Bet Gilroy has a miscarriage in Coronation Street (7 and 9 March 1988)

This is one of Julie Goodyear's finest performances in the Street.
Bet visited the doctor and told Alec she was expecting a baby. It was totally unexpected for them, Bet couldn't believe she was pregnant her age while Alec didn't want a baby. They were both very unsure of how to cope with being parents. However, Bet began to have pains in her side and Alec rang for an ambulance as he was worried. He later announced to Gloria (the Rovers barmaid) Bet had sadly lost the baby.
Alec was saddened and Bet returned home from hospital. She later broke down with Alec and told him how much she wanted the baby. They mourned their loss together.
This is so touching. Julie and Roy Barraclough gave wonderful performances, they were so good together. One wonders what would've happened if Bet and Alec had become parents. This is an edit of two episodes covering Bet's miscarriage.
