A little bit about Journey to the West. It is one of the 4 classics in Chinese Literature. Basically there was a monk in the olden days that travelled to India in order to learn more about Buddhism. Journey to the West was written a couple hundred years later and is loosely based on that story. Along the way the way the monk find some companions, namely the monkey king, who rides a cloud, has a stick and magical powers. Another character is a guy that was turned into a Pig. The book itself is mostly written as a takedown of the contemporary situation in China. There are a lot of jokes in there that take down feudal lords, corrupt tao priests and also shows evil warlords and such in a bad light. It's kind of ment as satire on the society at that time. For any Chinese, or even Asian, gamers all the name places, characters and enemies encountered in this game would be more than familiar and just the mention of the place name on the map will them everything to them about what would happen in that level. The dragon is turned into a horse and is added to the monks convoy after they solved the quest in the mountains, is basically like saying spiderman got bit by a spider,.. well yeah.. duhh. hahah Anyway, the book has been made and remade into TV shows, movies , children's Cartoons over the years. Actually if a guy with a monkey's tail riding a cloud sounds familiar to anyone it is because Dragonball Z is loosely based on Journey to the West. As with any old ass book, the original source material is a real pain to read, but I would definitely recommend a quick hop over to the wiki page, if only to impress your Chinese friends. Further more the recently released movies, I think its a trilogy, I saw only one of them, seem to be pretty watchable. Since the characters are all traditional characters, I would guess that this was for sure intended for the Hong Kong and Taiwanese Market, so maybe if you are looking for copies of this, that's where they should be. But since they were never really all that successful I am guessing that a lot of that stuff was probably recycled a long time ago and now this game has become super rare. but that would just be a guess. Maybe somewhere in Taipei some guy is sitting on a box of new old stock and he is just releasing them to ebay every couple years or so. hahah
