Foreigners always thought that health care here in the Philippines is not equivalent to the rest of the world. A lot of that is true, but if you have money, you could the same care as the rest of the world. Remember we have one of the best nurses that you could have to care for you and very affordable..
The healthcare here, even if you have money, is extremely limited and much lower quality than most Western countries. Yes, St. Luke’s exists. The Medical City is hit or miss in many locations. You’re going to pay quite a bit and you have to live in very specific locations for that. But beyond that… long wait times, older equipment, dirtier facilities… doctors are less knowledgeable. And I would argue that no, the nurses here are not “the best”. There are just a lot of them, and many go abroad because other countries need more.
Philippines has very good doctors, much caring and cheaper than USA. Even with insurance, we have to pay more for a hospital stay in US than paying all cash in St Luke’s. But even a medium sized facility or clinic in a medium city in Ohio or in the south is much better in facilities and equipment than the best hospital in the Philippines. With that, the doctors are well adapted and work with what they have and ultimately get the job done. I would choose healthcare in the US though if given the choice.

Don't get fooled by filipino's "impoverished " way of living, and that is our majority, yes we are competent academically. I'll cite myself for instance ,a filipino nurse coming out of the province and passing your NCLEX, as well as UK's regulatory Nursing Examinations and elsewhere, you name it we passed it with flying colors. You can't be comparing the level of competency on how filipino nurses are paid and performs while in the Philippines and working here abroad ,its misleading.

What did I find? Pure example: Let’s use the Brent International School in Baguio. This school has an 11th/12th grade math course that is described as “for students who wish to pursue studies in mathematics or subject that have a large mathematical content…” Basically, this is the advanced math course that is offered at the school. For students looking to go into STEM. So what is the course? “Developing mathematical arguments, problem solving and exploring real and abstract applications…” Not calculus. Not trigonometry. No mention of algebra or geometry. I was doing college algebra in the 7th grade. AND the cost to go to this school, 11th & 12th grade? $7,684 + 332,836 pesos. That’s over $13,600 a year. So please… Let’s not play the whole “foreigners are stereotyping the Philippines as impoverished” card. I happen to have quite a bit of knowledge AND experience when it comes to healthcare and education in both the US and Philippines. Other countries are importing nurses out of absolute necessity, Japan being a huge place they are going. Population decline in these countries means there are less young people to take care of the old. They take who they can and figure they can give additional training if necessary.
It's funny you mentioned about stomach aches. Back in 2000, my first and last time in the Philippines since my family moved to the US in 1989, I ate at Tropical Hamburger. Man, I had the runs like a Kenyan in a Boston marathon. Growing up in QC in the 70s and 80s, eating isaw, taho, balot, etc., I never had any problems. Gut microbiome certainly changes with environment. Great interview!

I designed and furnished with expensive quality materials which I picked myself. I can drive to S&R, Landers, malls and restaurants and get there within 10-15 minutes. If I wanna go2 BGC and Makati it’s only 30-45 minutes drive using Cavitex and Skyway. So what are you talking about quality of life? Remember you live in a bubble which is BGC. I was there last month on a Sunday and there were rubbish on the streets and trash cans were all full to the max. Please be careful and think first before you say/write a comment.

Vietnam historically after the war lost Southerners-go getter types to the US. I see them, obtaining stateside medical residency jobs more than US Filipino locals. This young man 👨 has been blessed in being able to budget to go places around Asia. During my young years I was able to afford Japan, Korea 🇰🇷, 🇰🇼 Kuwait, Saudi 🇸🇦 Arabia and the Philippines 🇵🇭 ❤️ by being in the US AIR FORCE Security Police 🚔. Now, for the most part when you are either retired military 🪖 or age (62). You can afford life overseas on a stable income. Which is unfortunate most young people cannot do. But yes, living in BGC you’d probably need at least $3000 usd to get by good assuming you’re not partying like crazy every day. I left Phoenix for the Philippines in 2018. My monthly expenses in Phx were around $2,500 a month, and I didn't live an extravagant lifestyle. I've been in Baguio for 5 years now and live comfortably with my asawa for less than $1,500 a month. I'm 65 now. Worked remotely for my first 2 years then took early retirement at age 62, so my $1,922 Social Security a month is plenty for us.
I can imagine people define "living like a King" differently ? --- So - a simple 'comfortable' life might be an easily doable thing - within reason - for that $1000/mo. mentioned amount. -?- Not enough English in Vietnam for me. Cambodia speaks a lot more English & the people are far more friendly. English is more spoken in Malaysia too. > Expats profess to get by for around the $1000/mo. budget in all of these countries. --- Don't drink or smoke can save a lot of $ over time. Older retired expats don't travel as much and can get better longer term rental rates. Buying a scooter can save transport costs. --- A good conversation for the real world.

The main issue with Filipino food is sometimes they put too much msg especially the sauces, If you are sensitive you can be in trouble. If you want to be safe eat at the establish and well known restaurants. Avoid street foods or you can gradually make yourself accustomed to it.
Do you think other Asian never use msg? i worked in a Thai restaurant here in the US for 12 years i avoid eating the food they cook for employees because i see how they cook and find that they put too much ajinomoto vetsin which i never used in my cooking, i am from Philippines and not all of us using lots of msg , just so you know.
