As a York local I’ve visited sore thumbs hundreds of times, it’s a great little shop, Lee and Liam have so much gaming knowledge. I’ve recorded a couple of times in there and I must admit you were lucky it wasn’t busy. It’s a nightmare with the shop been so small. Great video
According to some retro store owners, the shoplifting rate in such stores is very high, which explains the sometimes higher prices compared to online retail. Sometimes they even become victims of large-scale nighttime robberies in which the entire stock gets stolen and some rare games are just lost forever 😪
Not in the UK, maybe in the US that could be true
@@JimBob-vg2og Why not? There are plenty of criminals around, and retro is as big business here as anywhere.
I am one of those malefactors, I'm currently sitting on 15,000 physical games, I would make a UA-cam on them but that would be too risky, not to mention STUPID

Yes!! Discovered Sore Thumbs about 4-5 years ago and now every time I visit York it's never compete without a quick trip. The back area look a lot neater than my last trip.

@@sandman8920 indeed, the back area looked like a car boot sale. Just stuff everywhere, although thinking back it was part of the charm, looking to find treasure.
We travel down from Scotland to York for holidays every year. That's the first stop for my son and myself. Lee and Liam are both awesome. Great knowledge of the games. Still to get a big hitter award though
I live 30 minutes from York and never knew that this shop even existed! I'm going now sat. Gemma you visit a ton of shops, you should do a video of all the shops you've been to and where they are in one video. Like a compilation if you like. Do wonders for the shops and the retro scene. Yep, that's why I thought it might be a good idea if you did a video on the shops on a map type thing with a little footage. I discovered James shop in Doncaster because I'd watched your video. I'm now a regular there, love the place. Finding shops is the hard part
Yeah I had someone do a UA-cam video about an epic retro game store, come to find out it was a 4 minute drive from my place O_O lol
So bought some stuff there to support the local retro stores.
We also say "The City" but never Frisco or San Fran.
Wow, that's one epic shop! I've been following them on Facebook for a while but haven't had the chance to visit there. I'll be sure to pop in there when I get the chance. Great Video, Gem :)

California Games is one of it's own kind, it caught me by surprise when I played it for the Sega Genesis how fun it was, winning felt rewarding cause it was a challegning game, great Gen-X memories, the colors and graphics were also pleasing for the time period, it really made us East Coast kids want to head out to the West Coast for the beach life. OMG and Zombies ate my Neighbors is a gem I love that game and pray one day someone remakes it

great little shop , always pop in when in york as im not far away, and love the memories it brings whenever im in there
I've never been to York. However I have bought from Sore Thumbs at the Bristol Gaming Market in 2018 and 2019 - not been one since.
We definitely need a regular market down here in Wessex.
Great store sore thumbs but there online website is really bad needs updating big time. I prefer the retro shop doorway to dorkness.

Nice shop, i bought a game form them at the donny retro market, they have alot of stuff right, id love to go but its almost 3hrs from me, Need to let me know when you goto these shops Gem so you can keep an eye out for games im after haha. Those Street fighters were really nice
The problem with these retro stores is that they keep the good stuff for the retro markets and soar thumb in particular have most their games missing manual

I have street fighter 2 on the mega drive/Genesis.
12:30 I'm pretty big James Bond fan, so I might buy that box, if I ever get to England. Also, I've never played ZX Spectrum, so that would be new computer as well.

Legacy of Kain Blood Omen voor the PS1 is also a awesome game too play.

Amiga CD must have been a Europe thing … I don’t know anyone that talks about it here. Now I was born in 94 but some of my older friends that were gamers were NES and Genesis. No pc engine maybe Atari.
