I work for Renewal by Andersen of Oregon, we start by doing this, but if we have over 4 windows in a house, we build the casing and jamb together for a picture frame and then bring it in to the window. Shims on bottom for support and level, and nails elsewhere support it quite well. Have not had to go back for trim work yet . Great video!
Trying to adjust your saw to get a half a degree for your miters is a pain in the ass, I put a playing card (or two) between the piece being cut and the miter saw fence. It usually works perfect.
Cheap casing makes cheap looking trim. Prefer window stool at bottom of window. The treatment shown is known as picture framing window trim. It can actually be cut and be glued up on a flat surface and be fitted around the window as a unit casing. Craftsman style trim requires only misters on the edge trim. The casing is flat clear wood meeting at right angles at corners. Another common window trim uses a rosette block at top corners, eliminating the mitered corners.
In the 70-80's the previous owners refitted my 120 yr old house was with anything from plastic to hardboard trimming around original doors and new windows. Most it was picture framing as u describe. Now they are soon all changed to shop made Jugend-style trim :).

Make a sill as part of the bottom jamb.
