After achieving my first 10k I confirm it does make a massive difference. I have the stability that the 10k provides me in the back of my mind which helps me with daily positive decision making. However it is also a catch 22 as I really do everything in my power each and every day not to touch that 10k, continue to add to it and watch it grow over time.
I completely relate! It does feel so good to have saved up that much, and I don’t have to stress about finances very much. But at the same time, I still mentally hate spending money and just want to save as much as possible. 😂
I can also relate as well. When I saved my first 10k I definitely felt my finances were in order and helped me make better financial decisions. Also what helped me out a lot (and can for other people) is to have a system placed where each time payday hits, a certain amount is automatically transferred to a HYSA account for a different bank. And the other portion to investments. That way, money is consistently organized and aimed at what it's for.
You're so right about the difference between "can I afford this?" and "should I afford this?" I never had a phase of operating on the former, but I feel like fundamentally that is the difference maker. The mindset of perceiving the benchmark for affording something as being when you can get your hands on the amount of money that allows you to purchase it is disastrous. There is such a huge opportunity cost whenever you purchase beyond your needs, especially when young.
I saved 10k savings as an emergency fund and after that everything just changed for me. I started to be more aware of my spending and it made me save more for investing.
Love this. Also, almost certainly the reason you can save faster (8:13) after that first $10,000 is because if you don't have to charge a $2500 unexpected repair bill, you don't get hit with all the finance charges that completely sap you economically. (If you don't have the money when the repair has to happen, it's not like you're going to magically have it in a month when the credit card bill is due, so there you are, carrying that balance again....)
I honestly feel like my first $10k didn't do that for me sadly. I think one year of my annual salary will be the HUGEST part for me to feel the difference. Too many crazy things happen in this world.
I was thinking the same thing when I sat down and calculated it all out. I contract my work, so it could just dry up any time! So I think I need a years expenses saved to feel better if something ever happens
The psychological effect is 100% true. Last year I crossed 1M at the age of 38.. feels a level up.. and frees you up mentally to travel, eat out more etc, now I am at 1.1M and it doesn’t feel any different.. I guess 10M will change that.
Reason 6 is so true, lots of the things that can be dealt with money are not happening anymore (e.g., late fees) and it even gives you a sense of financial unstress (constant lack of money is so stressful, every day, each purchase..). Seeing results (that it actually works over time) is so motivating, maybe that is a reason why as shown in the data those who have 10 000 USD saved are more likely to save more.
Nothing like having an emergency fund set aside. My central air unit just died…..$6200 replacement. Came at the perfect moment when I’m also paying off an engagement ring and wedding band (0% interest for 12 months). Fortunately I made establishing an emergency fund at the beginning of the year. I had $5500 in a HYSA, and another $15k in ETFs outside my retirement account. I’m able to pay for the AC in cash, still pay my bills, and not have to even touch the ETFs. I’ll probably have to postpone buying the motorcycle I’ve been wanting for 20 years now, but not getting put into a bind over what could’ve been an emergency is amazing peace of mind. The new unit should be more efficient than the 24 year old unit it’s replacing too. Though I’ll admit having to start the emergency fund over again will suck, I’m happy I have that option. EDIT: should mention I was also able to take a large pay cut this year for a job that’s extremely less stressful as well
Buying a house is nice but a lot of Americans are losing tons on opportunity costs because they decided to buy a house. Renting a lot of times, while you’ll never own it, makes you so much more money over time because you don’t have these massive phantom costs and can instead call the landlord and put that money to work for you instead.
I am getting close. I am at 6400 euro. 😊 Trying to go to 10k. I am also paying off my student loan. (I pay double of what I should) but I am saving money and also investing. I feel more safe and comfortable then I never had.
everyone has already done a video on why net worth skyrockets after 100k with the same graph in the thumbnail, so now they are all going to do a video on why saving 10k is important. UA-cam can be a joke sometimes
It’s the “wealth effect” of feeling more security vs desperation and feeling poor. But to get there it requires intentional action, which provides more freedom of choice.
I hit 10k a few months ago and 3 months before that I had been fired from my job ,I couldn’t find a job anywhere. I went and bought tools to start a business when I finished buying all my tools I had a half tank of gas in my truck $0.47 in my bank account and rent due in 4 days hitting 10k was a huge confidence boost I felt like I could do anything
The fun thing i notices by myself is that when i had way less money, I was saving and thinking about the thing I want to buy one day (for me it was a car). However, when I reached a point where I CAN afford it, I actually don’t really want it anymore lol. I feel joy of having a possibility to afford it and I don’t need to buy it anymore :)
I made it to £6k and then a divorce and house move reduced it to £2k. Ive got a crazy low mortgage rate though so the rebuild starts when I move tomorrow!
This has been very very insightful, working towards inch by inch one day when I can afford French press Blue Tokai and The Paragraph coffee, perhaps the best coffee at a reasonable price that you can get in India for true coffee connoisseurs…..I love coffee too
Made me check when I ended up having 10 000 cash: About one year of having started working after finishing university. I chose a reasonably well paying degree (~50k/year for starters), struggled to find employment after that and then had to move to one of the more expensive cities... ...of germany.
You’re looking really, really good. (Keep up the heard work!) I’d like to see a video talking about what you’ve changed with your diet, and also what you’re doing in the gym.
I have a saving of about 6000 and i really was getting burnt out at work and i took 5 says off to recharge and do things. Even spent my whole check on things i enjoyed. I do not regret it lol.
As coffee prices went up to a point I am not okay with anymore, I completely cut that out of my spending. Prices were 50cents which was okay, but went up and now are 80 cents the last time I checked or even more since then. The ammount of coffee coming out of that machine also got cut in half so it's more a 1,60€ per (fullsize) coffee. My usual were 4 to 5 cups of that coffe every day at working hours. Calculating that for a working month with 22 days gives 0.80*4*22 = 70,40€ a month just for that garbage coffee, which doesn't even taste good. I stopped drinking that coffee for several months now. Doing that for several months, you might be able to afford a proper new coffee machine and a fancy coffee-to-go container to take it to&from work. It's just coffee. But at those machines at work, it's damn expensive.
For sure! It can definitely add up and it just depends on how much you enjoy it and if it’s worth it to you. For me, it’s part of my daily routine and it’s totally worth it to enjoy that at this point in my life but at other points I’ve definitely cut it or changed.
I really think it's also just a psychological thing; like seeing that extra zero in your savings just makes you feel so proud of yourself 😂 I should be able to achieve this goal by the end of the year. When I have a solid emergency fund set up, I will start to invest more into mutual funds

I tend to agree. The first few thousand will help you to look more relaxed into the future. After that it's a long way though until new changes start to occur. I'm currently at 250k and it's not that different than it was when I had my first 10k. I guess things start to slowly change again around the 1 million mark. But that will take a loooong time until I reach that.
10k really didn't do anything for me. It was nice, but I knew all too well during the time 10k wouldn't do much if I screwed up again---had a 35k medical bill that I had paid off previous years. But, 100k, will be quite the feat and change my perspective.
Uh yeah go to doctor, been saving and going to gym felt great, went to doctor on a whim 2 weeks before my 5th trip to Japan, and i actually had a bone marrow cancer found in a blood test! contained now and on a good track( currently has no chance to impact life expectancy) If i did not go see a doctor beforehand i would have been at a very high risk to get a blood clot from it on the plane.
How to tell someone is poor? When he says 10.000$ is a milestone!!! I don't want to get misunderstood cause I'm in the same category but 10k is almost nothing when a second hand car cost that much, i believe that salaries worldwide compared to the cost of living is sooo low! The average person should save at least 500$ per month as an indicator that life is better!
Actually is it a big deal, especially if you've never had or saved £10,000 or if you've been bad with money ( crappy parents who didn't teach U ) or if you've spent due to being unhappy. For some 10K is small and other others Amazing and propels you forward to do more..
It’s not necessarily the amount, it is the mindset that comes along. Like starting a daily walking 🚶♀️ habit. It doesn’t make you ripped, but it’s leveling up (video game).
Hey im just a bit nervous, you said your engine blew in your Civic and I just bought a civic. Could you tell me just for reference the reason of that happening and the milage it had ? Thanks a lot. Great video!
It lets me tell my boss to “piss off” I’m not doing that because it’s a waste of time BUT I will do this cause it actually makes sense. It’s actually gotten me raises and advances 😂 only would I do that if I have a backup savings
Wife and I had over 20k, then we did house upgrades, then work plummeted, like crazy low. Under 40hrs. Then I was off work for over 6-7 months because I was diagnosed with Cancer, having to do Chemo. So our savings got destroyed. At least I'm good now, and we had around 4000 left when I got back to work. I've been working OT to get it back up, but I'm hoping to get a call for this job I was going to get hired in when I was diagnosed. Had an interview last week, and within my first year, I'll make 7000/year more than I ever had at my current job that I've been at for almost 12 years
I still come and check out your content but it’s not just you, but many UA-camrs are just repeating the same things, the same thumbnails and titles etc.
Because personal finanse is simple in theory but a lot harder to do, so people watch it explained differently for motivation or at least that the case for me 😅
amazing video, well question after 10k you invest in yourself better food/coffe/gym/clothing but If I do that I will be agaun below 10k more faster because of the new expenses , what you reccomend me to battle that? because I wanna have that 10k and to never lower again just see it convert to 100k
Idk man I think getting rid of a non essential expense that is literally an addiction is probably the FIRST thing you should do. Giving up coffee gave me freedom in the sense that I wasn’t dependent on a literal drug. And it saved me sooooooooo much money. Consider it.
Older I get I see it’s now the down payment it’s “easy enough to save just takes time” the monthly payments with budgeting spending within your means. Millionaires go broke living above there means.
I just paid off all of my credit card debt with a loan from my 401k and only now am starting to put money each check into a high yield savings account. At the rate I’m contributing to that account, I should have 10k in two years. Which doesn’t take into consideration the interest I’ll receive or any extra money I put in over that time period. I can’t wait to see those four zeroes 😊
For everyone watching this, remember: luck, is a HUGE factor, you may have a little more possibilities by saving and having good finances, but all this people that earn a lot of money an attribute their success to hard work forget that luck is the biggest factor in the equation, there are several psychological studies that have observed that, so remember that no youtuber will give you the answer to make good money, because they don't have the answer for you! And even if they did, they would not tell you because then they will be out of business....
Have you made a video to demonstrate how you make coffee? I’ve made coffee from small independent roasters and it still tastes sour and bitter without milk and sweetener.
I’m 19 and have 18k in investments from 9 months working a minimum paying job. I can agree hitting that 10k mark really made me go harder and invest more. Trying to hit 22k by the end of the year but is content with 20k. I still need to learn a lot, so i would really appreciate any advice or any thoughts on the matter🙏. And i agree money doesn’t buy happiness but it buys the time and opportunities to be happy.
I lost over $80k when everything started to tank. Not because I was in an exchange that went belly up. I was just stupid to hold and because that's what everyone said. I'm still responsible. It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong. It took me over two years of being in the market, I'm really grateful I found one source to recover my money, at least $10k profits weekly. Thanks Kimberly Doran.
Heyyy, I don’t know if this is a dumb question but when you say you can take more risk or the 10 to 1 rule, that 1 is from the savings account or from the other accounts you use to live? Does this makes sense?
I think it doesn't really matter how you have things organized, so long as you have reasonable access to that one percent (such as not incurring taxes to use it, etc.) -- hope that helps answer your question!
His premise makes no sense. The only way life gets easier after 10k is if you are spending it. A minimum wage worker can save 10k, but once they spend it, it's back to being poor. If you don't make a lot, you should prioritize income rather than savings.
Considering an investment of approximately $250,000, I seek your guidance on entering the market. I am contemplating mirroring the tactics of seasoned professionals rather than independently investing to mitigate potential financial setbacks and emotional strain. How do you view this particular strategy?
@@jordirolink8254 especially if those are close enough in value to the USD. But if it’s like japanese yen or sri lankan rupee then it’s better to adjust it using the exchange rate since saving 10,000 yen isn’t really the same thing coz it’s more like saving $100

Da Da BINGO. That's it exactly.

Did you and According to Nicole know each other?! So funny to see them same subject in videos this week 😊😊
I actually haven’t met her lol I shot this like three weeks ago
@@GabeBult It's a case of 'Great minds think alike'. 👍👍
@@kallistoindrani5689Absolutely. 😊
Hey im just a bit nervous, you said your engine blew in your Civic and I just bought a civic. Could you tell me just for reference the reason of that happening and the milage it had ? Thanks a lot. Great video!
It came and went BOOM
"More happy"? I'm surprised. You sound reasonably educated. It will make you "happier."!
lol yeah I’m terrible at speaking
Remember: it isn’t what you make, it’s what you KEEP!!!
According to Nicole just released this exact video 3 days ago
It lets me tell my boss to “piss off” I’m not doing that because it’s a waste of time BUT I will do this cause it actually makes sense.
It’s actually gotten me raises and advances 😂 only would I do that if I have a backup savings
Have you done a video on how to travel frugally?
That ouch and boing came from the movie White Christmas with Bing Crosby
My wife and I have officially planned to get 1 years living expenses put back. I think it will take us about 3 years.
Had an interview last week, and within my first year, I'll make 7000/year more than I ever had at my current job that I've been at for almost 12 years
I still come and check out your content but it’s not just you, but many UA-camrs are just repeating the same things, the same thumbnails and titles etc.
why do all the finance youtubers make the same content?
…because we watch it.
There is only so many ways to make a coffee commercial
Because personal finanse is simple in theory but a lot harder to do, so people watch it explained differently for motivation or at least that the case for me 😅
Because people prefer to watch how others makes/save money instead of doing it themselves 😅

5k already gives me peace..
Money buys you freedom
amazing video, well question after 10k you invest in yourself better food/coffe/gym/clothing but If I do that I will be agaun below 10k more faster because of the new expenses , what you reccomend me to battle that? because I wanna have that 10k and to never lower again just see it convert to 100k
Idk man I think getting rid of a non essential expense that is literally an addiction is probably the FIRST thing you should do. Giving up coffee gave me freedom in the sense that I wasn’t dependent on a literal drug. And it saved me sooooooooo much money. Consider it.
I had the same thing happened the engine in my truck went had money in my emergency account to cover it.
Older I get I see it’s now the down payment it’s “easy enough to save just takes time” the monthly payments with budgeting spending within your means. Millionaires go broke living above there means.
I used my first 10k to buy a house and I'm saving around £400 a month plus my home equity after 3 years is 25k
I agree with this mostly, 10k ain’t what it used to be though.
White Christmas is the quote “somewhere between ouch and boing” “wow”
I just paid off all of my credit card debt with a loan from my 401k and only now am starting to put money each check into a high yield savings account. At the rate I’m contributing to that account, I should have 10k in two years. Which doesn’t take into consideration the interest I’ll receive or any extra money I put in over that time period. I can’t wait to see those four zeroes 😊
i have a coffee addiction also lol. what kind of coffee maker do u use? im thinking about trying that trade. thanks.
It’s from White Christmas. “How much is WOW?” “Right in between ouch and boing”
I got my 10k this year... this past year has truly tested its emergency usefulness lol
Hello!!From where do you buy your T-shirts?
Do this with BTC. 0,001. 0,01. 0,1. 1 btc is great to have
It's from White Christmas!!!!! 😂
As soon as a commercial gets pushed on me i leave no thanks
Heyyy, I don’t know if this is a dumb question but when you say you can take more risk or the 10 to 1 rule, that 1 is from the savings account or from the other accounts you use to live? Does this makes sense?
I think it doesn't really matter how you have things organized, so long as you have reasonable access to that one percent (such as not incurring taxes to use it, etc.) -- hope that helps answer your question!
@@Jessica_Jones Thank you so much for replying, this actually helped so thank you for ur time 🤙🏾
@@yayebalay731 yay I'm so glad! 🎉
My goal is to reach my first 200,000 in my financial portfolio to include emergency savings account
I was up to $15k until I lost my job for 5 months, plus other things going on. $9k left to go lol
I just hit 2k in my savings, I also have 9.4k in my roth. I'm trying to save up 10k though
As someone with a long torso, what clothes are you wearing?
His premise makes no sense. The only way life gets easier after 10k is if you are spending it. A minimum wage worker can save 10k, but once they spend it, it's back to being poor. If you don't make a lot, you should prioritize income rather than savings.
Considering an investment of approximately $250,000, I seek your guidance on entering the market. I am contemplating mirroring the tactics of seasoned professionals rather than independently investing to mitigate potential financial setbacks and emotional strain. How do you view this particular strategy?
I’m in England, should I have the equivalent of $10,000 (which would be around £7500), or £10,000?
I would use my own currency, which for me is 10.000 euros. For you, it would be £10.000 ;)
@@jordirolink8254
Agreed use the currency according to your country.
England £ 10,000
@@jordirolink8254 especially if those are close enough in value to the USD. But if it’s like japanese yen or sri lankan rupee then it’s better to adjust it using the exchange rate since saving 10,000 yen isn’t really the same thing coz it’s more like saving $100
Nothing changes after 10k and it doesnt get easier dont lie to yourself.
this video is inspired by another smaller youtuber, yeah, i know 😉
Saved up 9k and got layed off 😭😭
Imagine being from Romania And Saving this money
