Port authority are not fire fighters, probably a few dock hands and a glorified security guards. i would guess they moved what boats they could and didnt try to fight the fire. They also may have had only small hand held fire extinguishers, the average person has a minute or two to get a fire under control after that its grown to big to handle.

It constantly amazes me that whenever there is a fire disaster like this, there are always some heroes that try to either fight the fire or save the boats that are not alight yet. Most ordinary people just stand around with their smart phones filming it, but boat folk get motivated and do their best to ensure that no one is in the boats, put the fire out if they can, or tow away the boats to stop the spread.

    • @WOTArtyNoobs

@@tamasvarga67 Help the people who are trained fire-fighters to stop the fire spreading and call the emergency services rather than just standing around videoing on their phones and getting in the way.
Most people who are trained mariners are also trained in firefighting. All RN personnel do a course at HMS Raleigh on mock-up ships and use real equipment and techniques to put the fires out. I guess that the answer to my question above is that most boat folk are ex-armed forces or professional sailors and they've gone through courses. The important thing is that any of these boats could have people onboard and if they might not be aware that they are in danger, or they might be injured and unable to escape. Boats tend to have a lot of flammable material and so the faster you react to a fire, the better the chances that you will stay alive and save lives.

When we had a fire 🚒🔥 at are Marina
We only lost 6 boats. Not saying that lightly it could have been much worse like this fire. Here is the sucky thing. The boat where the fire started ( the man smells fuel in the bulge) goes down to investigate or he was fixing something
They just skipped town, filed for bankruptcy, just totally avoided anyway so no loss people could get money from the couple. I really felt bad for the people that lost a boat they probably loved. The marina requires us to have boat fire ( insurance for any loss) and they require the boat leaser of slip to provide them copies each year. After the fire at the marina. And believe me when we got there the whole parking lot was full of Ladder and Engine Rigs. Our FD has a 30 foot moose boat build type modern fire boat, with a big deluge nozzle on the bow. Most of their call outs are for coast guard alerts to mariners. Basically they have taken over the TOW back into the pier for Sunday boaters running out of FUEL I see so many small FDs or Fish & Wildlife cops getting High tech fast emergency boats, that they have basically replaced the CG rolls
Anyway I've heard from a Marina employee who I know closely that the other boats that were lost to fire. The owners had to go through their own Insurance. That's why Marina wanted us to show them and have on record Insurance coverage for our own vessel
What I hated the most about what Marina did was to lease out slips for temporary stay boaters. Some of these boats were pieces of poo, Po. Bilge pump always running. Using non Marina type plug in for power, boats that just had the woodworking all flaking up. And the people look even more scary. So the marina would let u be a seaworthy boat moor at Marina, but it looks like if there boats start a crain reaction FIRE. It's on me and you the boat owners who lost their boats.

@wildcountry. maybe a fuseable link instead of a bulb, it would be a deluge system where the pipes are empty until it is needed , maintenence would be important but the insurance companies would make sure of that. Six months during Summer surveying around S.Korea, then a solid week drifting down to Subic Bay, Philippines and spending the Winter surveying around the islands. A report from AutoinsuranceEX said EVs exhibited 61 times fewer fires per 100,000 sales than ICE vehicles."
Internal combustion vehicles are 11 to 61 times more likely to burn than EVs.

Oil wars. Think of the owners of mega-yachts and the influence they wield worldwide. In 2001 I worked on a 195’ yacht for a couple of weeks. When I toured the engine room I was told it takes 45 THOUSAND GALLONS of gas to fill the tank! You know the big gas trucks you see at a gas station? Those trucks hold 5,000 gallons…it takes nine of those trucks to fill the tank! Now, think about all the yachts you see up and down the coasts of all the countries in the world and you’ll understand why wars are still being waged over oil…and why those in power continue to squash greener means of energy. BTW - mega-yachts are now 400-500 feet long…imagine how much oil they need?!
