I tried using the arc tool, as you did. I drew a small tangent arc, then went to the entity info window and changed the number of segments in the arc to three. I then ran the arc around my cube with follow me. I wound up with pretty much the same thiing you got by using your second method.
4:21 You'll get a nice result even if you didn't pull those faces out.

just put a tool like bevel in sketchup its been years with this problem...make it simple and of course inside the program so we dont have to pay extra 400 for add ons
